How Will Metaverse Change Your World? Episode 5 of Let Me Explain Has Answers.

(Update on November 21, 2022 at 10:00AM PT: This page has been updated to link out to relevant resources.)

2 things have become clear as we grappled with the effects of COVID-19 these past months: we should prize the moments when we can be together with one another, and when that is not physically possible, the digital world can still help us feel connected. But for all of the progress we've made, there's still a lot to do to improve that digital experience, and the metaverse helps us answer this challenge. Learn more in our next episode of Let Me Explain, a video series that breaks down complex topics.

Something Went Wrong
We're having trouble playing this video.

The metaverse is a set of digital spaces, including immersive 3D experiences, that are all interconnected so you can easily move between them. It will let you do things you couldn't do in the physical world with people you can't physically be with. It will feel like a hybrid of today's online social experiences, sometimes expanded into 3 dimensions or projected into the physical world—and seamlessly stitched together so that you can easily jump from one thing to another.

Some elements of the metaverse exist today in a limited capacity. You're probably most familiar with the mobile internet, augmented reality, virtual reality and gaming. We already have foundational products available at Meta that you can leverage today, including live shopping and business messaging. These critical building blocks will allow businesses to act faster when new technologies come that allow you to put the customer first and meet them where they already are.

It's the next evolution in social technologies and the successor to the mobile internet. Technology allowed us to write, then talk and now see each other. The metaverse will be the next step—letting us feel like we are sharing a space together.

It won't happen overnight, but over time, the metaverse will unlock new opportunities for people and communities. This won’t be built by Meta alone, but it is ushering in a new chapter for our company, and we are excited to be part of this journey.
