ABOUT 3100 WE ENERGIES CUSTOMERS ON MILWAUKEE’S EAST SIDE WERE WITHOUT POWER LABOR DAY. THE ROOT CAUSE? THIS MASSIVE TREE COLLAPSING OVERNIGHT ON WOODSTOCK PLACE BETWEEN LAKE DRIVE AND SUMMIT. TOPPLING OVER ONTO POWER LINES CRUSHING ONE UNLUCKY PERSON’S CAR. X I CAME DOWN HERE AND THEY SAID OH YEAH -- >> I CAME DOWN HERE AND THEY SAID OH YEAH, THE TREE FELL RIGHT OVER THERE AND I’M LIKE ONE OF THEIR BECAUSE THAT IS WHERE MY CAR IS. THOUGH IT WAS A VERY CLOSE CALL. >> I WAS PARKED ACTUALLY WHERE THAT SILVER CAR IS RIGHT NOW, AND I RAN TO MENARDS LAST NIGHT REAL QUICK, LAST NIGHT, WHEN I CAME BACK I PULLED ONE SPOT IN FRONT OF IT. SO GOT LUCKY THERE. CAROLINE: IN FACT THE NEIGHBORS WE TALKED TO WERE ALL STUMPED-ON WHO THE CAR BELONGED TO. SPECTRUM CREWS WERE STILL WORKING ON RESTORING INTERNET MONDAY EVENING. NEIGHBORS TELL 12 NEWS AN ARBORIST SAYS THE TREE WAS LIKELY ABOUT 150 TO 200-YEARS-OLD. IT’S FALL LEAVING A PERMANENT IMPRESSION ON THIS CAR AND ITS OWNER. Thousands in the Northpoint neighborhood of Milwaukee's east side were without power early Labor Day.Neighbors on Woodstock Place, between N. Lake Drive and N. Summit Avenue, woke up to crews working to remove a tree from power lines. A spokesperson for We Energies said they got a call just after 12:30 a.m. Monday for a tree that collapsed onto power lines, cutting power to about 3,100 customers. The spokesperson said everyone's power was restored by 6:00 a.m.Though one unlucky driver lost their car in the mess. The tree fell directly onto the vehicle, crushing most of it. Neighbors said an arborist estimated the tree was likely about 150-200 years old. WISN 12 News talked to a neighbor who came very close to losing their car too. "I was parked actually where that silver car is right now, then I ran to Menards last night real quick. When I came back, I pulled one spot in front of it, so got lucky there," said Mathew Eisenchenk. "I looked out my window, saw a bunch of people congregating on the corner. A fire truck pulled up and I thought, 'Better put on clothes in case my building is on fire,'" Eisenchenk said. "I run down here and they say, 'Oh yeah, a tree fell right over there,' and I run over here because that's where my car is."None of the neighbors knew who the driver of the car was. As of 10:00 Monday night, the car remained parked in the same spot.
