Why Megamind 2's Rotten Tomatoes Score Is So Low

Megamind vs. the Doom Syndicate's Rotten Tomatoes score is especially shocking, since the original Megamind movie was received favorably by critics and audiences. Much of the criticism for the sequel has been aimed at its significantly lower budget, which resulted in inferior animation quality, evident from the sequel's shoddy-looking posters alone. The original Megamind movie was produced on a $130 million budget, and while the sequel's budget is unknown, it was split between the movie and the eight-episode series, Megamind Rules!.

Unlike the original Megamind movie, which was produced by DreamWorks Animation, the sequel was produced by its television arm, DreamWorks Animation Television.

The sequel is also being panned by critics for its uneventful plot, which features only loosely defined threats and other narrative threads. The sequel's vocal performances, which were the original movie's strong suit, have even received mixed responses. Instead of bringing back top-tier talent like Will Ferrell, Tina Fey, Jonah Hill, David Cross, and Brad Pitt, Megamind vs. the Doom Syndicate tries and largely fails to replace them with Ferguson, Post, Brener, and more, with these recastings also likely due to the budget constraints.

Megamind vs. the Doom Syndicate is streaming on Peacock.
