Let's talk about the Meet the Parents franchise.

Discussion

I've only seen the first movie. I don't plan to see the sequels but I want to know everyone's thoughts on them. Please share with me your thoughts.

I thought the first movie was funny. Anything that could go wrong, did go wrong. The bomb airport scene was funny. Just a funny movie although a bit mean at times.

How did you feel about the sequels Meet the Fockers and Little Fockers? Please tell me your thoughts.

The 2nd one is the best one. For real. Don’t even watch the third one.

But the second one, really hits the mark where the first one just really felt a little forced or something.

Meet the Fockers is one of my all time favorite rewatch-able movies. The other two….nah….

Yes Barbara Streisand just nails the character! And the Dustin Hoffman / Robert Deniro pairing lol…

What exactly did u like about the 2nd one? And what makes the 2nd better than the first? Why didn't you like the third one?

Meet the fockers is a fun watch, funny with gregs parents. The 3rd one tho? I am not a fan of.

First one I loved, after that they steadily declined

Robert DeNiro saying "I have nipples, Greg. Can you milk me?" is peak cinema

I rewatched the three somewhat recently when I used to watch them a lot in my younger years so it was interesting to see how I felt about them now in my 30s

Meet the Parents: I actually found it painful to watch. Greg felt a little too relatable trying so hard to be liked and to fit in. His social awkwardness turns into him being a liar and people pleaser while the people around him seem to be against him with every turn. He continues to dig his own grave because he can't get out of his own way and accept who he is as a person. Robert De Niro is excellent and sees right through Greg and delivers some excellent moments born out of Greg being called out on his bullshit. This movie was funnier in my youth but now I see Greg for how sad he is and it's hard to see it as a comedy

Meet the Fockers: This movie does a better job of turning Greg into a funny sad instead of sad sad. The shenanigans Greg and his family find himself in actually feel funny and goofie. Flushing the dog down the toilet, sharing too much at the dinner table and ruining it, and of course the idea that Greg has a son. The dynamic with Greg's parents being loving and carefree while Jack has a stick up his ass works well.

Little Fockers: Didn't like this one much and it takes a good step back from being funny to just being a bit sad again. Can't even really say much about it, didn't leave much of an impression

I've seen the first movie. Greg is kind of a people pleaser but I thought the movie was funny tho kinda mean. Robert is generally a jerk. The airplane scene is funny.

Yea, as said I've been in situations like he was and understand where he's coming from and that's what makes it a bit too real for me. Greg is a good guy that just keeps getting pushed down and in response he turns to lying and trying to be someone he's not so that he'll be accepted. He's also lacking in confidence and the whole thing just kinda goes hand in hand. He lacks earned respect and Jack pretty much just bullies him the whole time.

The second movie actually makes it funny while the first is a bit too real with it.

I agree with you there.

In 2004 I saw the movie Mr Woodcock. It's bad but also a mean spirited movie. I was 12 at the time.

The first meet the parents was hilarious and I kind of like the concept of the sequel. I didn’t see the third one.

Meet the Parents is one heck of a ride! That first movie had me in stitches with all the awkwardness. But then they just kept going, and it's like they couldn't stop!

Meet the Fockers had me rolling too, but by the time we got to Little Fockers, I was kinda like, "Okay, are we done yet?" Still, gotta give it to De Niro and Stiller for keeping it going. What's your take on the whole series?

the second one is the best. that poor fondue.

Little Fockers was an abomination. Dreadful.
