Morning Anchor
NewsCenter1 (KNBN-TV) in Rapid City has an immediate opening for an anchor/producer to help lead our informative and entertaining morning show.
KNBN-TV is South Dakota’s only locally owned television station, with deep ties to the community.
For the first time in its history, NewsCenter1 Today is now the top-rated morning newscast in western South Dakota. We have built our audience with a strong focus on local news content during the broadcast, delivered by a team who have a strong rapport on screen. We place heavy emphasis on personalities’ credibility and likeability. We have the dominant weather team in our market and deliver the in-depth forecasts that an agriculture-heavy market like ours requires.
Rapid City is a small-market city with big-market news. Agriculture is South Dakota’s top industry, so we cover the business of ranching extensively. But in western South Dakota, home to Mt. Rushmore, the Badlands, several other National Parks and Monuments, and numerous other attractions, tourism is the biggest industry, so we cover the business of tourism. The Rapid City market is also home to Ellsworth Air Force Base, headquarters for the 28th Bomb Wing, which will be the first to receive the new B-21 Raider stealth bomber, expected in the mid-2020s. We travel to the state capital of Pierre for the annual legislative session. We are also the fastest growing area of South Dakota, both economically and in population, so we cover related issues extensively.
You’ll have a voice in driving the kinds of journalism we create, the stories we chase and the strategies we use to engage our audience. You are someone others in the newsroom will look up to, so you have to be a natural leader and storyteller.
Using all of our platforms is a big part of this role. You have to be great on camera but you also need to know how to use digital tools and definitely social media, to promote the work you’re doing but also develop direct relationships with our audience.
Salary is negotiable, depending on experience.
