Matthijs de Ligt won the Eredivisie and Dutch Cup with Ajax

Ajax captain Matthijs de Ligt has arrived in Turin to complete his £67.5m move to Serie A champions Juventus.

The 19-year-old, who had also been linked with Manchester United, Barcelona and Paris-St Germain, led the Dutch giants to the Champions League semi-finals last season.

After arriving by private jet, the defender said: "I am happy to be here."

He made his debut in 2016 and has won the Eredivisie and Dutch Cup, and was a Europa League finalist in 2017.

De Ligt scored eight goals in 77 league appearances for the Amsterdam club, who he joined at the age of nine, and became the club's youngest captain in March 2018.

He scored the winning goal against Juve to send Ajax through to the Champions League semi-finals, where they lost to Tottenham.

De Ligt made his debut for the Netherlands in March 2017, despite having started just two league games for Ajax at the time.

    You’re right, it’s not a surprise.

    It would have been a surprise if he had signed for Liverpool given that they didn’t place a bid, didn’t contact his agent, and publicly stated they weren’t going to even try and sign him.

    So yes, it’s not a surprise at all. Well done.

    I suppose when Maguire is going for £80m this kid seems pretty good value considering his potential and what he’s already achieved.

    Is £67m a sound investment for Juve and will they get value for money and/or recoup that sum when they sell to Real Madrid in four years’ time? Amazingly, yes.

    Genuine now, how the hell can Maguire go for more then this guy??

    Governing bodies ie fifa/UEFA/premier league need to sort their s*** out and sort football out before its too late.

    Football is dying a slow death with players happy to not play for money (bale) and averahe players going for ridiculous money because there english (maguire)

    Poor decision from De Ligt and led entirely by his agent's greed. Other clubs would have paid more for him but less commission to his parasitic agent. Juve are undoubtedly a huge club but in what is a very weak and uncompetitive Serie A. It is the equivalent of joining PSG: huge salary and contract would he learn and develop more in La Liga, Premier League or even the Bundesliga? Absolutely. Shame

    Harry Maguire is not an £80m defender. All you have to do is ask yourself whether Barcelona, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich or Juventus would pay that kind of money for him. The answer is a firm no, so there isn't a club in England that should pay that for him either. It's ridiculous that nationality can increase a player's value. I hope Man Utd tell Leicester to shove it but we are clearly desperate.
