HilaryDuff is embarking on a quest to find the love of her life... on TV, that is, as the star of the new Hulu sitcom, How I Met Your Father. In real life, though, Duff has already found her perfect partner in husband Matthew Koma.

HIMYF, set in present-day New York City, features Duff as Sophie, a relatable, modern woman looking for love. “There’s great characters and I’m going to get to have another on-set family, and another TV family,” Duffsaid in May 2021. “And there’s so much opportunity for like, love stories with this show because it’s Sophie and then, three dudes… It’s going down that whole rabbit hole of like, well, which one was, was the one and which, who was the father.”

Yes! Duff is married to Koma, a songwriter, producer and musician. The couple live in Los Angeles, where they're holding down a busy schedule of filming, family, press engagements, tours, concerts and more.

Despite their high profile, you won't see Duff and Koma out on the town living it up. “I will always choose sandwiches and 8 p.m. bedtimes over fancy date nights…. over and over again,” she wrote on Instagram in 2020. “My best friend, lover and papa bear that cannot be rivaled… it’s always been you.”


Duff reiterated her wedded bliss on the couple's second wedding anniversary, posting a photo of them at their wedding ceremony with the caption, "Guy of my dreams. Papa bear. Best friend. Good human. That’s all."

Koma boasts an impressive c.v. Active in the music industry since the early 2010s, the Long Island native has collaborated with an impressive array of rock, pop, electro and country acts. He's toured with Ellie Goulding, Owl City and LMFAO; co-wrote Zedd's Grammy-winning song "Clarity"; remixed Bruce Springsteen's song "Rocky Ground; and co-produced Shania Twain's comeback single, 2017's "Life's About to Get Good," and Keith Urban's 2020 single "Change Your Mind." Currently, he also plays in the indie rock band Winnetka Bowling League.

Breathe Out. and hit it off immediately. “They had great chemistry in the studio,” a sourcetoldUs Weekly back then. “Hilary thinks Matt is very talented and cute.” Duff later toldVogue the pair also had a memorable two-hour lunch together around that time that also sealed their friendship.

“There wasn’t an instant spark, because I think when you’re walking into a professional meeting, you know nothing about the other person. I didn’t know if he was dating someone…” she said. “And then when we started talking about music, things started sparking and he was being funny enough, not flirtatious, but funny enough to where we started creating a banter and a nice friendship right off the bat.”

Duff and Koma started dating in early 2017. The pair were on-off before becoming closer and finally announcing their engagement on May 9, 2019, with sweet matching Instagram posts that found a beaming Duff showing off her dazzling ring. “I asked my best friend to marry me," Koma wrote in the comments section, to which Duff replied, “Thanks for the promotion babe.”

Duff and Koma kept their wedding location simple: They were married on December 21, 2019, in their Los Angeles backyard. Duff sported two killer looks: a regal custom white dress by British designer Jenny Packham that featured sharp shoulders and sleeves that resemble a cape, and then a kicky, gold sequined number.

The attendees hewed toward the couple's family and friends—in fact, Duff walked down the aisle holding her young daughter, Banks, and her Younger co-star MollyBernard was one of the officiants. After the ceremony, a dance party commenced right there at the house.

Yes, Duff and Koma have two adorable daughters. Banks was born in October 2018 and Mae James arrived in March 2021. Duff wasopen about having a home birth with both daughters, and posted photos detailing her journey with Mae's birth on Instagram.

"For me to feel safe during birth and get to where I need to go, it’s crucial to have the right support system," she wrote. 'The perfect amount of space, counter-pressure, humor, stillness and people that support my power." Among those she praised for their help is her "hubby," who she noted "is the most calm anchor in the room when I feel like climbing the walls."


Duff also has a son, 9-year-old Luca, from her first marriage to Mike Comrie. He's adjusted well to his mom's growing brood, however. "He’s so loving towards her and is always, like, holding her face and wants to hold her," Duff toldEntertainment Tonight after Banks was born. "When she starts to cry he’s like, 'Mom, she’s gonna blow! Get her!’ It’s really sweet. It's like she’s always been there and he’s just cool."

Being a mom has made Duff more confident in all areas of her life, including her body. In May 2022, she posed nude on the cover of Women's Healthand admitted, "I think that at 34 I have just gained a lot of respect for my body. It's taken me all of the places I need to go. It's helped me build a beautiful family. I feel like the older I get, the more confident I get in my own skin. And my body's been many different shapes and sizes and I'm really just fascinated by, one, being a woman. And two, all the changes that your body can go through throughout your lifetime."

Who was Hilary Duff married to before Matthew Koma?

Duff was married to NHL player Comrie, with whom she shares son Luca, from 2010 to 2016. The couple initially met in 2007 on a trip to Idaho, Comrie once told Hockey Night in Canada. “We were all on the same plane and it was kind of, I guess, maybe a bit of a fluke…It [was] one of those things where we were all in a group we spent the weekend all hanging out.” The pair hit it off and started dating, with Duff telling PEOPLE in 2009, “I’ve never met anyone who can say a bad word about him. He’s generous, caring and sunny. We just laugh our heads off.”

To Duff's surprise, Comrie popped the question in early 2010, when the pair were on vacation in Hawaii. "Most of the time people figure it out or have some idea that it's going to happen, and I think it’s great he was able to do a surprise like that for her," sister Haylie Duff toldPEOPLE. The pair wasted no time getting married, tying the knot on August 14, 2010, at the Mediterranean Villa La Quinta in Santa Barbara, California. “Mike held his arm around Hilary for most of the romantic, candlelit ceremony, and they both looked extremely happy,” an attendee toldPEOPLE.

Why did Hilary Duff get divorced?

Duff and Comrie were officially divorced in 2016, although their split was a long time coming. The pair had been separated since early 2013, and Duff filed for divorce in 2015—a day after Comrie was in the tabloids for "drunkenly propositioning women at Mastro's steakhouse in Beverly Hills," asTMZ put it.

As for what went wrong between the couple, chalk it up to growing up—and growing apart. "Mike and I were very in love when we met, Duff toldCosmopolitan in 2015. Duff stressed that they "spent the majority of our time together really happy," but admitted things eventually came to a breaking point. "It wasn't working well enough to stay together, but there was still a lot of love involved. It was just a slow set-in of us not being the match that we used to be. I'm lucky for the person he is and I am, and how we decided to handle this."
