From the outside, the place looks really select and on can't look inside. Once you enter, it really feels like you traveled to a place in Africa. The decor and lights really set the tone. Also, the menu is impressive. Not just what's in it, but the style and make. Definitely unique. I got myself an exotic, grilled meat platter with a fruit beer. The beer wasn't served in a glass, so I'll let you experience that yourself. Along with the entree, it was also the fastest thing to arrive. And thus, the long wait began. It took them a good 30 minutes after the entree to serve the main dishes we had ordered. My family enjoyed their choices and were stuffed afterwards. I wasn't too impressed by the grilled meat platter. My expectation was to be able to taste the differences between the exotic meats (crocodile, ostrich and zebra), but unfortunately the meat was dry, a little chewy and tasted mostly of grill. The sauce was really good though and so was the spicy sauce that was added upon request. Dessert was exquisite. All I remember is being really satisfied as it made up for the lackluster grill platter. You definitely pay for the experience as it isn't cheap.

Waitress really disappointing. My mom showed on the menu what she want, and we receive our starters and ask for hers. They ordered something totally different and only a plat. We were ok, error could happen. Then she received her 2 starter and her meal in the same time…. Then we had to ask for water 3 times before it comes. Then we asked for our dessert include in our menu, we ordered, and they bring the dessert included in the menu and one per person additional because they thought we ordered twice….. Technically the food was good, cocktails and wine as well but the waitress are just bad

I love the uniforms, the decor, the menu, however, the food was not to my liking and I waited for 1hour 15min and still there was only a tiny soup delivered to one of us. I had to finally just ask them to pack it all up. I have no idea what took so long. The food was terribly oily, tiny, a tiny sliver of bread, bland, too many cheap versions of staples like plantain and rice, but not even a full spoon full of sauce for dipping. There was 1 small portion of a kind of cheese that was good, but it was not even a full spoonful so I hardly remember. The rest we threw out. And all of this disappointment came to nearly 40euro. What a huge waste of time and money. Then when we tried to pay they said they only take German credit cards or cash so we had to run around the corner to find a machine.

This time I wanted to have some African food with my mother, so we came across the Massai restaurant, not far from the underground station Eberswalder Straße. The restaurant is traditionally decorated and creates a cozy atmosphere. The owner, like the entire service, received us very friendly. So we ordered the Mama Africa menu: The first course included millet soup with vegetables cooked in coconut milk, rounded off with cinnamon and anise. The soup was tasty and the consistency was fantastic. Then we received the side dish of chickpea balls (falafel) on a spicy-exotic coconut sauce, with fried plantains with a fruity passion fruit sauce and sesame balls filled with date paste and Kenyan tomato and bean salad with honeydew melon. All the dishes were very delicate, especially the sesame balls bringing a special note. Then the main course, lamb and okra and eggplant Potjie with zucchini and bell pepper in Tamarinda sauce and guanaco skewer (camel meat). The okra pods were not overcooked and bite-proof, a sign that a qualified cook was at work here, the camel meat skewers were very spicy. The portions are relatively small, but the taste leaves nothing to be desired. Definitely recommendable!

Massai is a beautifully designed restaurant with very kind and helpful staff and with the service quality of a fine dining restaurant. Prices are high but not very high. It is a fusion African cuisine with an eye on the touristic, so there are vegetarian options but also you can get a three-small steaks meal with many options of Game, Crocodile, Zebra... etc. they also offer a fun menu of stylized cocktails with alcohol and Mango... it is a nice change. A place for a special exotic feeling... when you feel like being a spoiled tourist.

Massai turned out to be a good place: They offer dishes from all the four main culinary regions of Afrika - with some explanations in the menu. The food was tasty, the ambiente pleasant and relaxed, and staff are very friendly.

Wow just wow. Let me start by saying this is a hidden gem. We found it by accident and it's the best decision we made all weekend. Please do go out of your way to try this restaurant. There is plenty of bars in the area to keep you occupied after an amazing meal. Drinks menu to suit everyone. Now on to the food menu. I for a free coconut milk soup wirh my meal which was really good. For mains I had zebra (a first for me). Wow absolutely gorgeous. Everyone was so unprepared for how amazing their meal was to be. So many happy faces at their choices and I'm sure that will echo through the whole menu. Lots of choice and very well priced. Our bill came to 130 for 4 meals, 4 deserts, beer and wine. Very reasonable

This restaurant is far from gimmicky. Yes, they have exotic meat on offer, but they also have a large range of well balanced dishes with depth of flavour. Our meat was great but the sides and veg really shone, rarely something we'd say. Good cocktails and mocktails too! We brought our three month along midweek. Despite her grumpynes the staff were more than understanding, insisting they take the baby for a tour so we could eat without fuss!

What a memorable experience! The decor is so well thought out, the staff friendly, the cocktails beautiful and the food to die for! I must go back because Massai Restaurant inspired Maasai Bar in Zurich. 😊

Been there for dinner with family and friends for my birthday on a Sunday night. I must admit not being an expert in African food despite having eaten African already in several occasions. But IMHO the menu was rich and varied, the food great tasting and well served, and the service professional and friendly. All at a totally reasonable price. Altogether excellent value for money.

We ordered zebra and ostrich thinking it was a fun gimmick, but it ended up tasting absolutely amazing - the zebra tasted like steak but with a stronger flavour, and the ostrich curry was served with fried banana that worked amazingly. The restaurant is well decorated and the waiters are lovely - a really good experience

Cool place with fascinating interiors, nice English speaking stuff and rich menu which varies from vegetation options to the crocodile meat. We had vegetarian 3 course meal for 21 euro. The portions were perfect size and taste very good. The menu had there different starters and three different main courses as well as soup. The serving was fantastic as well.

I was there with my husband on my birthday. The deco on the table was prepared for the occasion. We ordered a three course menu with the variety of game meat, appetizers and dessert. The meals complemented each other. We will definitely visit again.

I am no expert of African tastes nor have I visited the continent, but Massai offered a teaser to what I assumed Africa could offer. A selection of exotic meats for the daring, of which we recommend crocodile, but of course there's something for the vegetarians! Cocktails were great. Planning another visit to expand the experience - and hopefully one day visit Africa itself.
