Happy #archiveshashtagparty! Though this GIF shows an elegant dive into a European lake, rather than a pool, we thought it was too cool not to share for this month's #archivespoolparty! These 1930s photographs from the papers of Alta Rockefeller Prentice and Mary Adeline Prentice Gilbert document a family vacation to Europe. Alta Rockefeller Prentice was the third daughter of John D. Rockefeller and Laura Spelman Rockefeller. In 1895, Alta founded the Alta House Social Settlement in Columbus, Ohio. Today, the Alta House supports and promotes Italian culture and community in Northern Ohio's Little Italy. @AldenLibDigital @ohiostatearchives Photo: Papers of Alta Rockefeller Prentice and Mary Adeline Prentice Gilbert, RAC.
In honor of the 91st Academy Awards ceremony tonight, please enjoy a two-time Oscar winner in an unexpected role! This never-before-seen public service announcement from 1946, "Victory Clothing Drive," features actor Spencer Tracy urging Americans to donate clothing for survivors of WWII. The PSA was preserved from an original 35mm nitrate print and we believe it was never distributed. The complete film can be viewed on https://www.youtube.com/user/RockefellerArchive. Nelson Rockefeller served as New York City chairman of the Victory Clothing Drive, the organization for which the PSA was made. #philanthropyhistory #spencertracy #oscars #oscars2019 #academyawards Film: Miscellaneous Audiovisual Materials, RAC
