Marvin Ducksch, an attacker with a wealth of experience in the 2. Bundesliga, presents a new attacking option for Werder. The 27-year-old could not contain his excitement to sign for the Green-Whites at his official presentation on Thursday afternoon: “I have already played for several teams in my career and I really wanted to make the next step. Werder was absolutely the right choice for me!

Ducksch was previously playing at fellow 2. Bundesliga side Hannover 96. The attacker scored 33 goals in one-and-a-half years at the club, and he also registered 24 goals at former club Holstein Kiel in 54 appearances. His 18 goals for Kiel in the 2017/18 2. Bundesliga campaign saw him named top goalscorer, and his coach at the time was no other than current Werder head coach Markus Anfang. “We've been in frequent contact over the years, and we wished each other well for the upcoming season. The fact that our paths have crossed again here makes it even better. We worked well together during my one-and-a-half years at Kiel and I hope that that carries on here.”

Ducksch: “I am not a classic number nine”

The 27-year-old describes himself as a very ‘ambitious’ player who knows our head coach’s system very well from past experience. “I want to win every game I play, whether it's on matchday or in training. I try to get involved with the rest of the lads and support the younger players." Ducksch adds that his attacking qualities are not identical to those of a classic number nine, which explains his choice of the number seven shirt here at Werder: “I don't see myself as a classic number nine, at least not in a match. I feel more comfortable as a second striker or playing in behind the striker.”

The Dortmund-born attacker got involved with first-team training today and got to experience the SVW training ground for the first time: “I had good fun today. I will do everything I can to help the team right away and I want to get going with that on Sunday,” concluded Ducksch.
