Martin “Marty” Wiley, 72, Valley City, ND, formerly of Velva, ND, passed away on Wednesday, March 8, 2023, at the Sheyenne Care Center in Valley City.

Martin Richard Wiley was born on September 22, 1950, to Richard and Lucille (Monroe) Wiley, in Minot, ND. He was raised on the family farm outside of Velva and graduated from Velva High School in 1970. After graduation, Marty joined the United States Marine Corps.

After his honorable discharge from the Marine Corps, Marty returned to Velva, where he worked for several local businesses until he found his calling as a long-distance trucker. He was proud of the fact that there wasn’t a loading dock anywhere in the United States that he couldn’t successfully back into the first time.

Marty was a member of the Velva United Methodist Church and the Velva American Legion.

Marty is survived by his sister, Beth (Raymond) Leischner, Bismarck, ND; nephew, Jeremy (Reba) Leischner, Centerville, MN, and their daughters, Lucy and Greta.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, July 31, 2023, at 11:00 am at the Velva United Methodist Church.

Burial at the Velva Community Cemetery.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Velva Methodist Church.
