Newcastle United goalkeeper Martin Dubravka has had a chat with Eddie Howe over his place in the squad but is still unsure where his future lies.
It has been a very odd season for Martin Dubravka at Newcastle. Choosing to leave the club a the start of the campaign to join Manchester United on loan after being relegated to second-choice. Then cutting that loan short to return to Tyneside in January.
It was a move that saw Dubravka ineligible to take advantage of Nick Pope‘s suspension for the Carabao Cup final having represented our opponents in that competition during his loan spell.
Dubravka was the target of online abuse from some Newcastle “fans”
The move saw some Newcastle fans directing abuse towards Dubravka which will no doubt be in the back of his mind as he thinks about what to do next in his career.
In quotes run by The Northern Echo, Dubravka has admitted talking to Newcastle boss Eddie Howe, but he’s still not sure where he will be next season, saying: “I think it’s normal everyone who has ambition wants to play. But I’m still part of the journey and part of the team which is successful.
“I don’t know what’s going to happen after the summer, obviously. I had a conversation with Eddie. We had an open conversation about the future. It’s hard to say now, because it’s the end of the season now, and no-one really knows what will happen. It’s hard to give you some answers. Now, I just want to switch off. I have two international game to focus on and that’s my priority now.”
“I enjoyed being on the pitch. I think it was a very interesting game. I tried to do my best, so I was happy I could help the team. It was a pity we didn’t win, because I think there was a couple of opportunities where, if we are more clinical, we can score goals.”

Dubravka reminded us how good he is yesterday
Dubravka showed yesterday that he’s still a fantastic ‘keeper and one who should be playing regular first-team football, but I hope we keep him at Newcastle even though he will still have to play second fiddle to Nick Pope. They’re both at a similar level and Howe has always said he wants two starting XIs, that starts at the back with two capable goalkeepers.
The Slovakian has another two years to run on his £44,000-a-week contract at Newcastle so if he were to move this summer, Newcastle should be able to command a decent fee for his services.
