Jeff Garlin, best known for Curb Your Enthusiasm and The Goldbergs, is making his Netflix debut with his new stand-up special, Our Man in Chicago, premiering on November 12. This special comes after Garlin announced in 2018 that he and his wife of 24 years, Marla Garlin, were separating. The comedian is going through a divorce right now and we’re not sure if this experience will feature in his material. Nonetheless, the interest in his soon-to-be ex-wife is there. That’s why we’ve got Marla Garlin’s wiki with more on their relationship.

Marla Garlin Was Jeff Garlin’s Agent

Born Marla Beth Cahan on April 13, 1962, the California resident had been associated with the entertainment industry long before she married the Chicago-native comedian. They had a professional relationship before Jeff proposed to her during a Neil Diamond concert as Diamond sang “Hava Nagila,” and they tied the knot on July 24, 1994.

In his early career, Garlin had moved from his hometown of Chicago to New York and then Los Angeles before returning to Chicago. On his second homecoming in ’90s, he met Marla who would help manage his gigs.

“I used to be Jeff’s agent,” said Marla Garlin back in 2007. “I told people I got a lot more than 10%!”

She did get a lot more than a regular agent’s commission for 24 years, before Jeff filed for divorce in September 2018. According to court documents, they had split on July 25, 2017.

The documents state that the former couple will pay their own attorney’s fees, though Jeff has offered to pay spousal support. Reports indicate they are still in the middle of divorce proceedings.

Marla and Jeff Have Two Sons

In an old New York Times profile on Jeff, Marla and Jeff jokingly expressed their discomfort with kids. “I hate kids,” Marla had said in the 2007 report.

However, at that time, the couple were already parents to two young boys, James (b. 1996), and Duke (b. 2000).

Jeff has publicly struggled with health issues during his comedic career. Back when Marla was pregnant with their younger son, he suffered a stroke that left him hospitalized.

I was in the hospital for a week,” he recalled, “with one son at home and my wife pregnant. I couldn’t walk without a cane—I actually used a golf club because I thought it would be funnier. I thought, I’m never going to act again. How am I going to take care of my family?” recalled Jeff.

At the time of the divorce filing, their sons were above 18 years old. So far, James and Duke’s position in their parents’ divorce is not known.

Marla Is a Casting Director

Though she didn’t remain Jeff’s agent, she found her calling as a successful casting director. Her earliest casting gig was in 1999, for the Larry David: Curb Your Enthusiasm TV movie. She later worked in the casting department of Curb Your Enthusiasm from 2000 to 2007.

Marla’s other credits include two of Steve Carell’s most iconic works—that is, several episodes of his hit sitcom, The Office, and his 2005 movie, The 40-year-old Virgin. Her last-known casting job was for the pilot episode of USA Network’s Playing House.

She also had a minor acting career, with appearances in The Jeff Garlin Program, The Office, Arrested Development, The Comeback, and We Don’t Hate it Here.
