Richer increases lead over Fontes in Maricopa County Recorder race

PHOENIX — Republican candidate Stephen Richer continued to increase his lead over incumbent Democrat Adrian Fontes in the the Maricopa County Recorder’s Office race on Wednesday, according to the latest elections results.

Richer continued to lead Fontes 943,452 votes to 938,800 votes, which represented a difference of 4,652 votes.

Richer was ahead by 3,323 votes when the county released an update Tuesday evening. He first took the lead in the race on Saturday.

At one point on Thursday morning, Richer trailed by by more than 37,000 votes.

Maricopa County released an additional 13,362 ballot results in Wednesday’s update.

There are just under 6,700 ballots left to be reported in the county, according to ballot tracking progress by the Arizona Secretary of State’s Office.

Fontes unseated Republican Helen Purcell, who had been in office since 1988, in the 2016 election.
