Marcus Mariota is starting a new chapter in his NFL career. The fifth-year quarterback left the Tennessee Titans in free agency to compete for the starting QB job with the Las Vegas Raiders.

Mariota, 26, signed a two-year deal with the newly relocated AFC West franchise, worth $17.6 million and a fully guaranteed $7.5 million in the first year of the contract, per NFL Network's Mike Garafolo.

A former Heisman Trophy winner from the University of Oregon, Mariota was selected with the second overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft by the Titans behind another confounding case as a signal-caller, Jameis Winston, another top college quarterback all but likely signing with a new franchise. Mariota never took the “leap” with the AFC South club, and the Titans only reached the postseason once in the former Duck's tenure under center before the 2019 season, which saw Comeback Player of the Year gunslinger Ryan Tannehill take over along with star running back Derrick Henry own the ground game.

Mariota finishes with a 29-32 record starting for the Titans before in March 2020 signing with the Raiders, who will welcome competition at the quarterback position after the franchise's relationship with veteran Derek Carr soured. Without Las Vegas vehemently denying trade rumors and skepticism about Carr's future with the Raiders, the team looked to bring in Mariota to stir up the pot and potentially win over the starting gig under center.

Mariota had his best year in 2016 as a second-year QB, throwing for 3,426 passing yards with a 61.2 completion percentage, connecting on 26 touchdowns and nine interceptions.
