I understand that anyone above the age of six must wear a mask outdoors in the whole country, unless it is during bathing, sporting or sitting on a table to eat.

With the weather warming up and cases dropping down, what are the chances of relaxing the outdoor face mask rule in Andalucia by June?

Or probably I should ask, when will be the next government meeting to discuss the measures either locally or nationally?

Thanks in advance!

The last I heard a decision on facemasks will not be made until the end of August.

That's farther than I anticipated. I tend to forget my mask, usually I take it off in the car and get off on my next stop without it. In such case, would I be fined? Is wearing a mask strictly enforced and how much is the fine?

My understanding is that face masks are likely to be compulsory in Spain until at least the end of 2021. Obviously the legal enforcement cannot be everywhere, but when you are around people you will find that social pressure ensures you are more comfortable with a mask than without one. Also you should expect to be challenged in all forms of internal environment if you are not masked up.

Same here in Portugal. We expect mask wearing in many situations to be made permanent. After all, once this particular problem is over, another will come along. Remember that old saying 'coughs and sneezes spread diseases.'

Some people here wear masks when out walking their dogs or riding motorbikes. I suppose it's the same in Spain.

AndyR, wearing of a face mask is enforced and you will be fined if spotted. If no police are around the locals will let you know it must be worn!

In a restaurant you also need to put your mask back on, walking from the table to the toilets.

It is unusual to see anyone without a mask and there are sufficient local police in busy areas to enforce it. Sitting in the Plaza Costa del Sol we saw someone without a mask and the police appeared as if by magic. What was really significant was that they inspected all his documents, photographed some of them and then seemed to send them off. They waited for a while, then fined him. Presumably the documents had gone to a central check to see whether it was a first offence. In Spain everyone must carry identification with them, for tourists your passport or other acceptable photo ID. That man's infringement will be on police records and if he does it again the fine could be spectacular.

A tourist without ID, and most are in that situation, risks being hauled off to the police station until ID is produced or probably the maximum fine levied. It isn't worth taking any chances. So mask and ID.

What ID can we use? There's no way I'm carrying my passport around in case my bag gets nicked! Got an old fashioned paper driving licence so no photo. Have never carried ID in the last 30 years of going to Spain.

paula

You could get a colour photocopy of the photo page of your passport, get it laminated and carry it always. Are the old, paper, licences still valid?

I've got a copy of the passport page on my phone in case I lose it maybe that would do? Yes they are until you move house say and have to get a new one.
