The fantastic customer service my family and I experienced from the team at the Mar Monte makes it easy to write this review. I’ve never had an entire team be so friendly – special shout out to: Violeta, Dedo, Pasleg, Camila, Peter, and Lauren! The location was perfect for everything we wanted to do throughout our stay – close access to the beach, State Street, and Funk Zone. The property is beautiful, clean, and right across from the ocean and pink sunsets. You don’t even need to leave the property to relax and enjoy time with your company -there’s a great lobby and patio area with a couple small firepits where we enjoyed a nice bottle of wine (Peter and Lauren at the front desk made sure we had what we needed, including finding us a wine opener!). At the time of our stay,…

The service at the front desk was not good. They did not notify me when the room was available even though they said they would.. Despite being my 20th wedding anniversary, there was not even a congratulations let alone any kind of "extra." The room was very clean and had a spectacular view of the ocean and the food at the bar restaurant was good and reasonably priced. For the amount of money spent on the room ($1000 for ONE night), I was very unimpressed.

Staff was very friendly and accommodating. Rooms are spacious and clean. Great location across the street from the beach plus you can walk along a nice footpath in either direction and enjoy the scenery and ocean views. An added plus, the hotel is pet friendly.

The latest photos that advertise a remodeled space do not accurately depict the half done, mediocrely done renovation. Did the designer and builder just up and leave half way through? Did they run out of money? The phrase 'lipstick on a pig' comes to mind, which is unfortunate, because the Mar Monte could be a prize Iberian Jamon, if someone lovingly invested in consistently reviving the entire place. And although these may be hard times to hire people who excel at customer service, it says something when the valet are the best of the entire hotel staff. This hotel is overpriced for what they offer.

Not sure where to start with this review! Let’s start with the positive. Location is great with the hotel sitting just across the beach (with a road in between). During this summer vacation I have stayed at the Hilton next door before going to the Grand Hyatt in San Diego. This hotel is not a 4 star. I have traveled to 4 continents and stayed at various hotels (2 to 5 stars). I will rate this hotel a 3 stars because of the professionalism of the staff. Amenities and everything else is 3 stars at best. Negative: dining options are not good even with Covid-19 restrictions there should be better options offered to guests. If you are looking for dinner options like us staying here just one night to rest before hitting the road again tomorrow, then choice is limited to one place with…

I should have known to make alternative plans when it literally took me 35 minutes to book my room. The website kept failing so I called reservations directly. After a 22 minute wait on hold, I finally booked successfully. At that time, I specified a quiet room, top floor, away from the elevators. I also asked the reservation agent to note that I would be arriving late. On the day of arrival, I called the reservation desk again to make sure my requests were noted and that things would go smoothly on my arrival. No luck. When I arrived, the desk agent could find no notes about my requests and explained (claimed?) that there was only one room left. Exhausted, I took my key to the room and hoped for the best. The room itself was dingy and musty. As soon as I walked in, I could…

The rooms were a bit old (has that old, musty scent) but it was fine. Would stay again if price was way lower. Nice walk to the pier and downtown areas. Parking is all valet and either $20 or $40 per day depending on your length of stay.

We’ve now stayed here twice in three months. The remodel is awesome - very stylish. It feels well done, well thought out and of nice quality. The first time we brought our young kids. They loved being across the street from the beach. And, the ability to get takeout from the restaurant and eat on our balcony was perfect. We had such a great stay that we came back last weekend to celebrate our anniversary. Brenden from the front desk was so hospitable! He’s cheery personality was so refreshing. The restaurant manager (blonde hair - forgot her name) was a stand out during our dinner experience on 10/31. I ended up leaving my purse at the restaurant and she tracked me down .... phew! Another super star employee along with our Sunday (11/1) breakfast server. She was polite and…

Many flaws were encountered throughout the stay. Upon entering, we realized that the bathroom door completely blocks the exit and opens outwards, which is a hazard to anyone standing on the other side of the door. Additionally, bathroom door does not lock. Got settled and decided to watch some TV, but lo and behold, there is no signal or cable. Overall, cramped rooms, soft mattresses, and various issues will result in us refusing to recommend this hotel to anyone. Hyatt brand name is being misused.

We were down in the Santa Barbara area for a LAX tournament and stayed at the Mar Monte Hotel! It was fabulous. The location was excellent, literally right across from the beach and loved that it had a boutique feel to the hotel and not too big or overwhelming. The staff was excellent to work with and especially Dedo Dixon who went above and beyond to make sure our needs and requests were met always with laughter and a smile. We will definitely stay here again on our next visit.

We were there over Labor Day weekend and the hotel is fine. Not the most updated property but clean. Honestly we were rarely in the room so it was no big deal. We had an oceanfront room on ground level and it was excellent location-wise. There was a wall around the patio area so private from the sidewalk.
The hotel has a compact layout so everything was steps away. It’s far enough from State St so stays pretty quiet if that’s important.
