LOOK AT THE PHOTOS CAREFULLY...SOME ARE FROM OTHER LOCATIONS. NOT ALL FROM THIS HOTEL

I thought this hotel deserved a 4-star rating, not a 3-star. We had a great time.

It is IMPERATIVE to rent a car when staying in St. Martin and check out the island. We rented one from the guy in the lobby for $188 for 3 days. Expensive by American standards but sooooo worth it. Booking online may drive down the cost a bit. Hertz is very close by, as is a gas station.

Our room was sparkling clean. We had a lovely view overlooking the pool (adult pool). Therefore, it was quiet. When I walked over to the other side of the resort and heard the kids in the kids' pool, I was glad we got a room where we did (#713!) I would HIGHLY recommend a room on this side if you are travelling without children. The pool was lovely and empty every time we went in in (around 6-7pm). The hot tub was also lovely and romantic and empty every time we went in. The hot tub is in a little garden with a wooden bridge heading over to it.

The only complaint I have about this hotel was this: Our flight was at 5pm so we asked for a late checkout (300-330). We were told the latest checkout was 1pm but we could lock our bags in the baggage room and come back at 330 and shower in an empty room. We returned at 330 but the one empty room had been offered to FOUR couples for the 330 time. We were told it "wasn't the hotel's fault" all four couples arrived at the same time. Due to time constraints, we ended up "showering" in the portable shower/footbath area outside by the pool. I had a plane ride home with sand in my hair! That was a bummer.

Once at the airport, our direct flight back to JFK had been cancelled and we had to fly to Puerto Rico and connect. We got home 4 hours later than planned. Also, a bummer, but not the hotel's fault. I would recommend checking on your flight status the morning you are supposed to depart...essestial in this part of the world!

We never ate at this hotel except once for breakfast...it was fine. Every morning we drove to Top Carrot restaurant in Simpson Bay, ate breakfast there, and then bought a sandwich or a salad to take with us for lunch. About $15 per person for both meals. Organic and delicious!

We loved Baie Prunes and Dawn Beach the best. Baie Prunes was really secluded and lovely.

Best place to watch the sunset and have a drink = La Samanna hotel (good place for a honeymoon, too!)

Grand Case wasn't the cuisine delights that all the books promised.

Marigot and the outdoor market was our favorite town and the best shopping.

Fredericksburg was ok but too touristy.

Orient Bay was also nice.

This is also the first time writing a review and I am very happy to do this. We stayed at the Flamboyant Hotel which was very clean, the staff very friendly and always had a smile and would do anything to help you. The food was good a different theme for every night service couldn't ask for better. We had lobster one night which was to died for lots of choices at the buffet. My husband and I travel quite a bit and we can tell you that this place always made you feel like your coming home to family. Every night around 6:00 we would go to the bar and sit under the palm trees have a drink and speak with some friends. If you intend to stay here a would suggest you rent a car this way you can go from beach to beach. You can rent a car at the hotel I would suggest Ucar rentals the lady in charge of renting cars was exceptional.

We liked orient beach, Mullet Bay and the beach in Phillsburg.

For shopping Phillsburg was the place to go you can bring them down in their prices, never settle with the price that is marked.

We also found that on the Dutch side that everything food, drinks and clothing was alot cheaper than on the french side Margot was expensive compare to Phillsburg.

Orient Bay what a beach this is on the french side clothing optional I never swam so much you could see bottom 20feet from shore wow. I am not much of a swimmer but you couldn't get me out of the water. The only down fall I could find was the prices to rent a chair 21US for the day, water 6US a litre, food nothing under 19US for a sandwich and fries.

Mullet Bay 2US a beer, 7US for food, chairs 7US the beach was alot of fun but the waves were a bit bigger.

Phillsburg nice calm water great for swimming we watch a three year old boy playing in the water and he was having the time of his life. This is also where the cruise ships come in what a beautiful site.

Food was good around 10US for a complete meal, beer two for 3US. to rent a chair at this place 8US or 10US with two beer.

If anyone wants more info let me know and I would be more than happy to tell you.

I would go back to this place.

Le Flamboyant
October 21 -26, 2005

We were originally going to Cancun but with Hurricane Wilma bearing down we decided to switch to St. Maarten. Liberty Travel booked our stay at Le Flamboyant. We knew virtually nothing of St. Maarten as the booking took place just 24 hours before we arrived.

The Le Flamboyant resort is on the French side of the island, the best side, I think. The resort is on a lagoon, set opposite Simpson’s Bay, not on the ocean side, a little bit of a disappointment. We booked a standard suite that contained an outside kitchen on a patio deck. The kitchen had a refrigerator, sink, a couple of burners, a toaster oven (a microwave would have been better), and a few pots and pans and utensils.

The suite also contained a good-sized living room with a very handy free safe. The bedroom contained a king-sized bed (very comfortable), a TV that never worked right despite complaining several times.

The resort had two swimming pools that were very nice, always kept very clean. The one pool had a bar and restaurant nearby.

One could partake of many activities from ping pong and water aerobics, to diving lessons and kayaking. Many of the activities were free. We kayaked, for free, one morning, but it was very breezy and seemed like a lot of work.

The resort offered a breakfast buffet every morning that looked nice but we never ate breakfast there. The Le Flamboyant offers an all-inclusive feature. We did eat dinner there our first night and the food and service was excellent, although a little expensive as the resort figures everything in Euros at the rate of 1 Euro = $1.30 US - not the best exchange rate. (We got US dollars at a local ATM at 1Euro = $1.13 US.)

The resort was centrally located, (we rented a car at the resort) and one could swim in the ocean just across the street. Just down the street were a supermarket and coffee shop as well as a post office.

We had a very good time in St. Maarten, but when we go back we will stay in either Grand Case or Orient Bay. Both had a beautiful beach. Grand Case is much quieter than Orient Bay both in terms of the ocean and atmosphere. Grand Case has several restaurants and bars lining the main street, but not a lot of shopping otherwise.

In contrast, Orient Bay contains several large resorts and has a gorgeous beach with good-sized waves. The restaurants and bars here are much louder and more of a party atmosphere exists.

The south end of the beach contains a nudist resort so beware there are quite a few people walking around and swimming naked (mostly older people at the naturalist resort).

Overall, I would recommend St. Maarten and the Le Flamboyant. One could do worse then the Le Flamboyant but one could do better also. Enjoy.

This was our third trip to St. Martin, we previously stayed at another (nicer) hotel. We love St. Martin & will return to the island again and again, but never to this hotel, ever! Believe me, I know the difference between nice hotels. Read closely & be forewarned!

Ameican Airlines lists this place as a three star hotel, and the hotel proudly displays four stars on its sign. My first indication that something might be amiss! (First-class hotels don't have a sign with stars!!) It is hardly anything close to four stars!!

1. The smell of sewer gas and/or feces is omnipresent on the lower floors! I guess coming through the drains. Enough to make you gag! We walked on the upper balconies whenever possible to avoid this sickening smell.

2. The property is beautiful, but small things are in disrepair. The buildings are old, and seriously your basic Hampton Inn in the U.S. is nicer! After four requests and three days, they finally fixed the toilet. They told me to hold the button as if I don't know how to work a toilet! They left no indication that they had even been in the room, nor did they call to inquire as to whether or not it had been fixed!
The interior door lock (safety bar) on our childrens room (room 711) was removed. Lots of simple things like this are broken. Knobs coming off of furniture, bad caulking in the bathrooms. Patchwork and old looking.

3. The staff is more dedicated to moving traffic through this place than to being helpful. During the day, you have to stand in line to get anything done, or to even ask a question. Told the concierge of my toilet problem and asked for a piece of paper to write down my third request, (so I didn't have to stand in line at the front desk) And she said: "You have to tell them in person, (as opposed to calling three times) or they won't fix it." Her exact quote. How's that for professionalism?

On another occasion, (Saturday April 10, 2004) I had loaded up the family in our newly rented jeep to tour the island, and I couldn't work the gate, so we could drive out. The gate is in plain view of the front desk, and I walked over to the desk clerk and asked him to open the gate, as my family was sweating in the baking hot sun. He told me that I must go to my room and retrieve the gate card I was given, and he would NOT open the gate. I told him that I did not receive a card, and he still would not open the gate for me, whereupon I had to go back to my room and retrieve all documents that I had been given to prove to this uncooperative desk clerk, that I was not given a card to open the gate! All of this is going on while my wife and children a baking in the hot sun in a convertable jeep! After proving to this idiot that I was not given a card, he then gave me a card to open the gate and leave.

They give you cards to redeem for towels. One per person. While I guess this helps them keep up with the towels, it is more reflective of their clientele (who presumably might steal towels!). When you return the towel, you get the card back. I did this once on our last day, and went in the manager's office adjacent to the front desk to accomplish this.
In this room, was a fat lady who was smoking cigarettes (thus ensuring that all of the towels reek of cigarettes). My kids swam, and I returned them about 15 minutes later, whereupon this woman questioned me about why I was returning them already! (The insunuation was that I might get more than my daily allocation of towels, and/or that we had not used them or had unnecessarily used them just to dry off at the pool! Again, rude untrained and unhelpful!

4. The rooms. The beds are of the cheapest variety. Thin mattresses and small pillows. Nothing remotely resembling luxury here! The in-room hair dryer gets too hot to hold on to. There are no 110 outlets that will accomodate a hair dryer & the staff has no AC converters for use.
The furniture is dated and the rooms overall are average at best, with little things either missing or broken. The shower curtain and room towels were cheap and thin.

5. The hotel is on the bay. The water is nice, but wouldn't you really rather be on the Ocean?

6. The free breakfast is very average, and packed with people!

7. There are three English speaking channels on the TV. CNN, HBO and one more. I couldn't figure out how to block HBO, and since I was not given the suite I was promised (they gave us two rooms instead of the suite I had booked), I had to hope that my children didn't turn on the TV late at night and sample the sex flicks that HBO is so fond of showing!

8. Outside of our room, and inside of the courtyard, (not in the lobby & not near the pool) was an international (public) phone for credit card calls. I don't know if you can make international calls from the room (we didn't try) but why is there a need for a public phone for international calls immediately adjacent to the guest rooms? I'm sorry, you just don't see pay phones in the courtyards of finer hotels!! You see this type of thing at youth hostels and lower-end apartment complexes. I am betting that the room phones were blocked. I used my cell phone, so I can't say for sure. There is a credit card internet computer. I noted with interest that that this was free at the other luxury hotel where we had previously stayed.

9. There is no room service or coffee maker in the room! I hardly believe that any hotel that rates four stars, would not have room service! It would have been nice to have coffee on the balcony, but this was impossible. I couldn't carry hot coffee back to the room in the tiny cheap paper cups, and I dared not ask for two paper cups or actual (ceramic) coffee cups to take to the room!!

The above in indicative of how you feel here. Like the masses who must adhere to strict rules, designed to keep you from getting too much at the expense of the hotel!! It is so different from the really nice (super friendly & helpful treatment) that you receive at the finer hotels on this island. Honestly, I have had better treatment from airport security guards and Customs Agents!!

My advice, they should close this hotel, fire the entire staff (start with that fat smoking woman in the manager's office who doles out towels like they are daily rations at a prison & end with that idiot front desk clerk!!) (with the exception of the maids), put some money into the property, and reopen as a luxury hotel. What a shame that an otherwise nice location and property is run so shabbily!! It is basically a family, do-it-yourself hotel that is in need of repairs and an attitude adjustment!! It is nothing appoaching luxury. Don't stay here unless you are trying to go on the cheap, and be prepared to be treated like cattle!! I hope this review sends people by the hundreds to other hotels! This is my payback for being treated like a crimminal by an untrained, rude and unprofessional staff!!

We stayed at this pit of a hotel from 3/3/05 thru 3/8/05 and did not like it at all. The room had 2 double beds pushed together and that was our king size bed. Cheap bed linens, I think the sheets were 20 count and the blankets and bed spread have probably been on the beds since the hotel had opened. I do have to say the room was clean and so was the bathroom. We did have breakfast our first morning there and it was horrible. It cost $18 per person and they served cold food and runny eggs. I think that they only put the food out at 7am when they open and leave it there until they stop serving breakfast. This place is also all inclusive, I don't know why anyone would do all inclusive here when there are hundreds of places to eat that are ten times better. The beach is also horrible. It is like being at a fresh water pond. The front desk staff was very rude also. They treat you like you are inconveince. We asked four times if we could have a late check out, check out is at 12 and we wanted to check out at 1, we were told someone would get back to us. No one ever did and finally on the morning we were to leave they told us no.
We did love the island itself. We rented a car so we were all over the island. The dutch side is alot more lively than the french side. It is the best of both worlds. Do check out Oyster Bay Beach and Dawn Beach. Both on the dutch side. They were our favorites. We would return to this beautiful island but would NOT stay at this hotel!!

The first impressions of this hotel are favourable as you arrive at reception. The rooms are spacious and clean and there are two nice swimming pools.

There are however three major problems which need to be addressed if it is to live up to its 4 star rating.

Firstly, the food served in the main restaurant needs to improve considerably, the first step being that it needs to be served hot!!. Secondly, although there were `some notable exceptions the reception staff did not always make you feel welcome or valued. Thirdly, the 'beach' which is not a beach and is more like a strip of concrete needs to be upgraded`and kept clean. Even if this were done the lagoon does not reflect the caribbean resorts we have visited before.

Our week in the middle of February 2005 was very disappointing.

The brochure describes this hotel as being located between a lagoon and the ocean. In reality, it's on a lagoon, no ocean. The lagoon "beach" leaves alot to be desired. It's not the white sands of the carribean. It's hard ground with some sand sprinkled over it. Pool area very noisy with kids. If you like the sounds of the ocean waves and some peace and quiet, this place is not for you. The standard room was so-so. Draw drapes did not open as the cord was broken. The bathtub did not drain. There were no stoppers in the two bathroom sinks so if you dropped something, kiss it goodbye. No washcloths. According to front desk, they aren't supplied. We requested hand towels, never got them. Our phone rang approx every 20 to 30 mins with a french message stating we had a pending message. When we tried to obtain the message, it was totally in french. We asked the front desk to change our phone to "english" (which is easily done at the resorts) so we could understand what was being said. Receptionist tried 4 different times and was unable to do so!!! You can get much better accommodations elsewhere for the same price. We left this place after one day! Would not recommend it. Sorry!

My wife and I just stayed at this hotel the second week of January. The hotel was nice and represented a great value. We got a run of the house room, but it was large, with 2 large firm beds side by side. The bathroom was good size with 2 sinks and bathtub. There was a tv with cinemax and CNN and 1 more english channel, the rest were french or Dutch but was ok. The balcony was very nice, and it had the fridge, breakfast table and stove with some plates, dishes and utensils. There was an electric kettle for boiling water for the morning coffee or tea. We stocked the fridge with juice, soft drinks, fruits, breakfast items so our breakfast was at the balcony every morning, fantastic. The free electronic safe in the room was very convenient, I hate the places that want to charge 3-5$ per day for a using a safe. The 2 pools were nice, and the dive shop owner was cool, I am a diver so I went out on a 2 tank dive. The beach at the hotel is nothing special even though it has very clear water and looks beautiful in the sun.
We had rented a car from the airport (highly recommended, very competitive so you will get good deal, the rental agents will be calling you as you walk out of the baggage claim, talk to 2 or 3 different ones and get a deal on a small car) so we had the freedom to go anywhere in the island which we did, explored all the beaches, I mean all, and boy they had some fantastic beaches, frankly the best of many carribean island including Punta Cana, Peurto Rico, Jamaica, Cancun and even Aruba! The following beaches are the best and represent a must see
1- Long beach (west side of the island), access from Lesemana Hotel
2- Mullet Bay (south west side).
3- Le Gallion, super calm like a pond, fantastic colors (on the north east side of the island
4- Friar Bay, on the North west side , just north of Marigot.
5- Orient beach, north east of the island, at its south end is the full nude part, check it out, it was interesting, haha!
6- Maho bay beach, at the south end of the airport raunway. Here you will see the planes landing just above your head (very cool view), and they talk off from that end (begin the blast off). If you are adventuresome, then stand behind a big jet (like the 5:15 pm air France 4 engine jumbo airbus) and you will get the thrill of your life. Best time to view jets landing and taking off is between 1-5:30 pm.

I make it a habbit of taking a large cooler whenever I stay at a non all-inclusive place, so I just fill it with ice, and drinks and off to the beaches, and don't have to worry about buying expensive drinks from vendors at $3-5 for a small coke, rip off!

Other tip is on the french side of the island, the money is Euro, but most there resturants accept dollar at 1:1 ratio, but verify that with them upfront. On the Dutch side, dollar is the official currency, so in a nut shell, DON"T EXCHANGE DOLLARS TO EUROS, no need. Take dollars and credit cards, and can use the ATMs which are availabe at various places.

We didn't try the food at the flamboyant because we always ate outside so have no comments.

The staff at the Flamboyant were nice for the most part, they had one ... named Francis, watch out for him (big black dude).
The hotel had a nice show on Tuesday nights and samba dancing lessons given by the dance group on Thursday nights.
It was one of our best vacations, and I strongly recommend St. Martin to all (with a car rental). It cost 180 dollars for the week (auto, air), so was well worth it. Have fun!

Hi this is a first review for me and I'll try to be as honest as possible.

I stayed at le Flamboyant from Feb 25th to March 5th and all in all enjoyed the stay. My first impression of the reception was that you're instantly reminded that you're in the islands and things happen in "island time" including check-in. However they were very accommodating and we immediately had access to all facilities - except our rooms. Lunch was good and the service was friendly. My first meal their was at the Ti-Casse and I had the Salad Flamboyant (mango, pineapple, salad greens & crab) and I strongly recommend you try it while there.

Bear in mind when getting a room that it's a rather large complex and if you're in the back (towards Grand Case) it could be quite a walk the several times a day you'll be heading out or back. The room was larger than expected, cool and the tile floors are a nice touch. The rooms are well kept & clean and though I didn't use the efficiency stove or coffee maker I did find that the fridge was very useful - nothing like fresh cold juice first thing in the morning to get you going.

Breakfasts were very good - I restricted myself to fresh fruit, croissants and coffee - so you can't go wrong with that. Lunches were usually at the Ti-Casse and as I was on the all inclusive I could order anything off the menu - the Ti-Casse serves a very good Cheeseburger for those of you who (like me) just have to have one sometimes. The salads are good and I didn't feel that the staff were pushing too hard for a tip.

Suppers were moderately disappointing as they were always buffet style (except for the one night they had lobster) and not up to the higher standard set by their lunches & breakfasts. However in retrospect it makes perfect sense - if they are getting an 80 to 90% hit rate at breakfast (guests who are dining in hotel) then that number is cut in half for dinner as many vacationers are heading out to take advantage of the excellent restaurants in Marigot.

I really have little to complain of - I wish there was more entertainment on site - but that's not a deal breaker. The pools are nice and clean, the beach is beautiful - but I'd never swim in the Lagoon as I'm sure the water is septic. The location is excellent - a bit out of town for when you want quiet - but close to everything if you feel like getting a cab into town and letting your hair down.

I'd recommend it but caution folks to set their expectations accordingly - after all you're in the Islands and things are a bit slower, there are bugs here (big ones - though I never saw a single bug in my room) and the best beaches are a cab ride away. It's a good, clean and safe homebase while you spend your time in St Martin.

I have just returned ( 12-14-2005 ) from a one week trip to St. Martin, and have stayed at this wonderful resort. I have found this resort to be well worth the money, and very well located. The French speaking staff were extremely accommodating, and very pleasant. I came knowing no French, and there was no problem communicating. Everyone from the hotel was so friendly and courteous. They all have made my trip so memorable, that I'm already making plans to return. If you are expecting a commercialized type of place like the Hilton or Marriott, or food from Mc Donald's, it's best that you stay home! This is a place to take in the culture, hospitality, and food of France. The resort is extremely clean, and the rooms are spotless. Fresh linens everyday, a beautiful balcony or terrace, each having a kitchenette. How wonderful it was to make breakfast outdoors, and have cocktails in the evening just watching the sunset. I would highly recommend this resort to singles, couples, and families. If you are looking for a clean, casual, and friendly place, this is it! The location of this resort is excellent, however, I would suggest that you rent a car during your stay. You definitely would want to explore the island, and also see some of the Dutch side if you are into casinos. The beaches are so beautiful, and everyone seems to have their favorite. Mine was Bai Rouge which is about a 5 minute drive from this resort. All in all, I found St. Martin to be an excellent Caribbean destination.

There r a lot of beaches u can visit. A car is real good to have to visit them all and see the island. You can rent one right from this resort at a fair price.

You can walk to a grocery store across the street in Nettle Bay and you can walk to beach at nettle Bay Beach Club and to Sandy Beach where there are two ocean front restaurants. If you are really ambitious you can walk to Beay Rogue Beach...a couple of miles...best suggestion is to rent a car...try dollar / thrifty st martin...866 978 0932...mention promo code SMRC and get a 5% discount

Can I walk to town in 45 minutes or so? Or is there a bus service along the way?

Hi PatsPicks, you can walk to town in about 45-60 minutes, but I wouldn't do so at night. There is a stretch of road that is a bit sketchy during the day and I would not feel safe at night. There is a bus, which are vans with their destination posted in their windshield. Service is very slow and unpredictable, though, so expect a 1/2 hour wait at times.
