Rockstar Games almost distanced themselves from Rockstar North's Manhunt completely and wanted nothing to do with Manhunt during the game's development. In 2007, former Rockstar employee Jeff Williams blogged and explained that Rockstar Games found it difficult to publish the game because Manhunt featured such realistic violence that if the game caused controversy upon it's release, they couldn't explain it unlike the controversy Grand Theft Auto 3 had, hence why they thought they were going to cross the line when releasing the game.
