The Majestic Theatre
Recognized as one of the most ornate facilities in the country, the Majestic has long held a special place in the archives of Texas theatrical and architectural history. Located at 224 E. Houston Street in the heart of downtown San Antonio, the Majestic was designed and built in 1929 by John Eberson for Karl Hoblitzelle’s Interstate Theatres, and stood proudly for many years as the largest theatre in Texas and the second largest motion picture theatre in the country. It was intended to be the most modern and ornate building in South Texas – complete with new sound and projection equipment – and was the first theatre in the state to be totally air-conditioned.
Today, the Majestic Theatre is San Antonio’s premier performing arts facility featuring Broadway shows, concerts, comedians, and other live events!

Audio Description brings the theatrical experience to those who are blind or have low vision. Using a single earpiece connected to a radio frequency headset, patrons can listen to a trained audio describer narrate the visual elements of the performance. Live Audio Description is available upon request for the season. These requests are subject to the availability of an interpreter and are provided at the discretion of management. Patrons should call the Box Office at 210.226.5700 at least two weeks prior to a performance.
American Sign Language interpreted performances are provided upon request for patrons who are deaf or hard of hearing. Starting with the 2019-20 season, the Majestic Theatre will be offering GalaPro as the primary captioning service. If GalaPro is being offered, it will be available for all performance dates and times. GalaPro is the first-of-its-kind mobile application that enables the attendees to not only see and hear the performance, but to understand what is being said as well. Open Captioning is a text display located close to the stage that scrolls words in synchronization with the performance. Open captioning performances are scheduled for the below indicated dates and times, which are generally on the Sunday Matinee performances.
For the upcoming season, the following shows will not offer GalaPro and will instead utilize the traditional Open Caption display on stage.

GalaPro is a revolutionary, innovative app for accessibility and translation, which enhances the audience’s experience for live performances. Patrons using the app can now enjoy the show with subtitles, dubbing, audio description, closed captioning, and amplification in their own language. All services are provided in real-time, using voice recognition technology.
GalaPro is the first-of-its-kind mobile application that enables the attendees to not only see and hear the performance, but to understand what is being said as well. GalaPro is compatible with any smartphone or tablet and can cater to any theater, venue and language in the world.
GalaPro requires a one-time installation of the app. It is easily accessible and can be downloaded for free from the App Store/Google Play. Then, the user simply chooses the venue, the show they wish to see, and service(s). Using our multilingual system, GalaPro provides users with the complete itinerary and program. They can choose from subtitles, closed captioning, dubbing, all provided in real time, as well as the Audio Describe Program for the visually impaired. Our unique technology is designed specifically to adhere to the theater. Airplane mode is always on so there will be no messages or phone calls, and a black screen with red font that only the individual looking at the screen can read. There are no bright lights to disturb anyone.
