David W These reviews cannot be real. This is a terrible show from the beginning. To borrow a word from many other reviewers, ‘inplausible’. I mean, come’on. In the first 20 minutes of the show, you have the ‘nemesis’ introduced and already shown to be the killer because she didn’t yawn when he yawned, and she doesn’t do anything to hide it. ‘Haha, you have figured me out, but you can never prove it Luther’. And why was he suddenly meeting the nemesis in front of her apartment? And where did he get her apartment key? And, if he’s such a brilliant detective, why is he sneaking into her apartment anyways? For me, the actors are so utterly wasted on this flick, which is full of cliched tropes. It reminds me of the dusty Agatha Christy flicks my Mum watches, but on steroids. Lots of telling and no showing. I’m particularly disappointed because this show was recommended to viewers who liked The Fall, which is a brilliantly written and performed series, full of slowly building suspense. This show, garbage and wasted talent. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/10/24 Full Review Mike C I may be bit biased as I am drawn to crime oriented dramas, but this series is fantastic. Edge of your seat type episodes but laden with character build and emotional touches. John Luther comes across as a bit superhuman at times, but that is easily forgotten because the story line flows well. It's a shame that this great series was capped off by a subpar endgame movie (Fallen Sun) on Netflix. Very worth watching show....enjoy. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 07/06/23 Full Review Lukas K The BBC-produced thriller series Luther tells the story of London cop John Luther, who has an incredible talent for solving cases. However, his means of doing so are not always legal and his own demons threaten to stab him in the back. Personally, I find "Luther" quite exciting, because varied cases are presented here and the main actor also cuts a good figure. Very exciting at the beginning, then it weakens a bit, but the series finale convinces again. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/10/23 Full Review David C It's good, but not as strong as I remember it being, somehow. Do love it, still Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/27/23 Full Review S M Raisul I Luthor is one of the if not the biggest dumbest moron to be put on screen. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/25/23 Full Review Audience Member It's very dark, depressing and often times quite disturbing. But yet this is a really great series. Idris Elba as Luther is fantasticand eventhough you might feel a bit uneasy once some episodes end, it ultimetely feels rewarding which is what counts. Oct 17, 2010 Full Review Ginia Bellafante New York Times The two circle each other dangerously, their chemistry both bizarre and addicting. Oct 17, 2010 Full Review Maureen Ryan Huffington Post An excellent showcase for Idris Elba and an increasingly impressive character drama that goes to some dark and absorbing places. Oct 17, 2010 Full Review Adam Sweeting The Arts Desk Snag is, the plot is ridiculous, and a batch of rather fine actors have been persuaded to throw subtlety and logic to the winds and to portray characters which veer wildly between cliché and implausibility... Oct 19, 2018 Full Review Anna Peele Esquire Magazine Luther often teeters on the edge of plausibility... But Elba's deeply grounded performance keeps the show from feeling over-the-top. Oct 19, 2018 Full Review Euan Ferguson Observer (UK) This was woeful ham, utterly redeemed by Idris, and I await Luther II with genuine anticipation and my cliché-pants ready.
