Luke Grimes Biography

Luke Grimes is an American actor well known for his role in the movie American Sniper and Fifty Shades film series. Luke Timothy Grimes was born on January 21, 1984, in Dayton, Ohio, United States. He is the son of Randy Grimes, a Pentecostal pastor, and Angie Barker. Luke graduated from Dayton Christian High School in 2002. Later on, he moved to New York City to study acting at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts.

Luke Grimes Career

Luke started his acting career by appearing in the horror movie All the Boys Love Mandy Lane. He plays the role of a hot-headed and overly sexual teenager named Jake. In the drama, War Eagle, Arkansas he plays the character named Enoch, a high school senior with a speech impediment. In 2008, Luke starred in the crime-comedy-mystery movie Assassination of a High School President. Luke played the role of Ryan Lafferty, the illegitimate son of William Walker, in the ABC drama Brothers and Sisters.

At first, he had recurring roles but in Season 4, he became a series regular. For the FX movie pilot Outlaw Country, Luke played the lead role of a cowboy named Eli Larkin and cast alongside Haley Bennett and Mary Steenburgen. Unfortunately, the series was not picked up by FX. But, the pilot was aired as a television movie. In the thriller Taken 2, Luke appears as Neeson’s daughter’s boyfriend. Luke portrayed the role of a vampire, James, in the series True Blood. He appeared for six episodes during the sixth season, after which he decided to quit the show. There were reports claiming that the reason he quit the show was that he didn’t want to portray a gay character and participate in same-sex kissing or sex scenes. However, his publicist denied the reports.

Rise to Fame

Nonetheless, his decision to quit left the writers and cast members angry and baffled. He did a noteworthy performance by playing the role of United States Navy SEAL Marc Lee, in the action movie American Sniper, which also starred Bradley Cooper and Sienna Miller. His role in the Fifty Shades film series brought Luke into the limelight. Luke stars as Elliot Grey, brother of Christian Grey.

Luke has also starred in an independent feature film titled Freeheld, which is directed by Peter Sollett and is based on a true story. He played the role of Todd Belkin, Hester’s closeted gay colleague. The film also featured Julianne Moore, Steve Carell, Ellen Page, and Michael Shannon. Since 2018, Luke has played the role of Kayce Dutton, a former US Navy SEAL, in Yellowstone, an American drama series. He stars alongside Kevin Costner and Kelly Reilly.
