Player update – Lucas Moura | Tottenham Hotspur

Thu 18 May 2023, 17:30|Tottenham Hotspur

We can confirm that Lucas Moura is to leave the Club at the end of the season following the conclusion of his contract.

A product of the youth system at São Paulo in his home country of Brazil, the forward joined us from French side Paris Saint-Germain in January, 2018, and after making his debut off the bench in our 2-2 UEFA Champions League draw at Juventus the following month, he scored on his full debut in an FA Cup tie with Rochdale shortly afterwards.

His first Premier League goal came against Fulham at the start of the following season, swiftly followed by a memorable brace in our subsequent 3-0 victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford.

After scoring a vital late equaliser away to Barcelona in December of that year which sealed our progress into the knockout rounds of the 2018/19 Champions League, Lucas etched his name into Club history during the semi-final the following May with a second-half hat-trick away to Ajax – including a stoppage-time winner – which sent us into the Final.

Lucas has since contributed a number of memorable goals – including one just 19 seconds after coming off the bench away to Manchester City in August, 2019 – and last season surpassed the 200-appearance milestone in our colours.

To date, he has scored 38 goals in 219 appearances for us, in addition to winning 35 senior international caps for Brazil. In recent weeks, he has lent his vast experience to our Under-21 squad, stepping in to play alongside some of our young professionals and scholars to pick up regular match minutes.

We should like to thank Lucas for his tremendous service to our Club and wish him the very best for the future.

We shall provide a further update on our wider released and retained player list following the conclusion of the 2022/23 campaign.
