When Dianna Love published her first book, the outstanding story won a prestigious award. Ms. Love has now expanded her gripping tale of suspense and made it even more thrilling plus emotional, thus easily doubling my reading satisfaction and leaving me eager for more novels. LAST CHANCE TO RUN is the prequel to more books in the Slye Temp series, and it is definitely packed with everything that makes romantic suspense noteworthy.
After Angelina Farentino was falsely accused of a crime and imprisoned, she had a difficult time finding work when she was released and her dream of being a competitive runner was gone. When a well-known businessman offers her a job, she is grateful and tries to be a competent employee. However, one good deed she does turns into a nightmare when the man kidnaps her and keeps her locked up in his mansion, as some of his dealings are illegal and he will not let her expose him. Angel knows she must get away from her ruthless employer, as she has seen what he is capable of doing and fears for her life. When an opportunity arises for her to escape, she takes gold coins that could prove his guilt and her innocence. She makes her way to a nearby airfield and hopes to find someone who will not turn her back over to her captor.
With his charter business doing well and his undercover assignments for the DEA bringing in extra money, Zane Jackson feels he can afford to help his sister get her life back on track. When he discovers a woman has secretly gotten on his plane, his first reaction is to take her off and turn her over to the authorities. He thinks there is a good possibility she has done something criminal, and he does not want his business to be involved. But one look into her eyes has Zane wanting to look after the scared woman, and to not listen to his logical conclusions.
Satisfaction is guaranteed when Dianna Love writes a story. Much attention to detail assures there will be realism throughout, and descriptive scenes mean one gets to experience the moment right along with whichever character is present at the time. Regardless of what is taking place, I knew exactly how an individual felt because their feelings came through loud and clear. If an incident is filled with danger, then their fear is plainly obvious and reactions are true-to-life. When emotional upheaval is faced by someone, not only are responses evident but also their private thoughts, even those of someone with bad intentions. This author has always been able to take me right into the heart of a scene, and her ability can constantly be found during every predicament. There are numerous problems that crop up in the lives of Zane and Angel from the instant they first come in contact, and very few of them have a simple solution. Both question the motives of the other from time to time, and this causes self-doubt and plenty of hurt feelings. Angel has her reasons for not divulging the truth about herself to Zane, and although I believe this gallant man would have done what is best for her, I know someone in her position would find it hard to trust any male. When it comes to Zane, I fell instantly in love with this daring yet compassionate man, and how he reacts later in the story towards Angel had me falling even harder. The suspense in the story only grows more frightening with every turn of the page, as those on the wrong side of the law will let nothing stop them from reaching their goals. There are a few times when the action is heart-pounding, as I could not tell what would ultimately happen when all was concluded. The Slye Temp series is off to an awesome start, and the next story has another fascinating premise. LAST CHANCE TO RUN is intriguing with suspense, has sharp humor and is full of complicated emotional issues.
