How to Join Your Remote Appearance

To attend a remote appearance, you may sign in from a computer or mobile device. For the best meeting experience, we recommend downloading and installing the Microsoft Teams App on your device. If you are unable to install Microsoft Teams, you will be given the option to join the remote appearance through your browser (Chrome, Safari, Edge).

All nonconfidential court hearings are open to the public for in-person access only. There is no remote option for the media or public to observe court proceedings. LACourtConnect and Webex are intended for remote appearances by participants with a role in the case, including litigants, attorneys and witnesses.

Effective Monday, March 1, 2021, video will be available for remote courtroom appearances for all Family Law case types, except AB 1058 (Child Support) hearings. (Child Support court hearings may be conducted by conventional telephone appearance.)

Prior judicial approval will no longer be required to appear by video for Family Law court appearances as of March 1. Audio appearances will continue to be available for all Family Law hearings.

Beginning February 27th, attorneys and parties may schedule video (or audio only) remote courtroom appearances for hearings on or after March. Advance scheduling is available up to two hours before the scheduled time of the hearing.

Poor audio quality in any remote appearance – audio or video – can cause hearing delays.

An accessory headset or microphone (not built into your computer or calling device) is recommended for a significantly better experience for you and other participants.

LACC Release 2.0 introduces an enhanced interface with smoother transitions and heightened security when moving from the "Virtual Gallery" (the waiting area) to the "Virtual Well" (the courtroom). This version was phased in by litigation type beginning in September 2023.

Modern interface - More modern and intuitive look and feel with all the same features: Upcoming Cases, Monitor Courtroom, Chat and Announcements.

Change Display Name in Profile - From participant profile then can edit and adjust their Display name.

Chat Messages - Participant can chat/call/video with anyone logged into the courtroom’s Virtual Gallery. The Courtroom can also initiate chat with participants in the Virtual Gallery.

Transition into the Virtual Well (Courtroom) - Clean experience when navigation from the Virtual Gallery to the Virtual Well. Users are prompted with pop-up window “You are being moved in to the hearing now.” Previous versions prompted the user to click “Join Now” from pop up window, then navigate to their local MS Teams application or prompted to use MS Teams in browser.

Refined virtual well experience - An organized display of courtroom participants, a dedicated active speaker area, and phone users now identified by name are some of the improvements that make it easier to monitor courtroom activity.

After the hearing - Computer participants return more seamlessly to the virtual gallery after the hearing ends. If their hearing is still active there is a button to click under their Upcoming Cases.

• The LACourtConnect User Guide is comprehensive. It has these navigation aids:
  • Within the Help Center portion of this page, one link leads to the full user guide. Other links lead directly to the main chapters (and to other resources).
  • Topic labels down the left side of user guide pages make it easy to find the section you need and skip over others.
  • Bookmarks in the downloadable PDF provide a way to find what you need without returning to the table of contents at the beginning. Some browsers, however, hide the panel by default, in which case look for a small bookmark icon (a rectangle with a notched bottom) in the PDF’s top toolbar or side margins. If you download the PDF and open it with Acrobat Reader or a similar application, look for the bookmark icon and or a small left-pointing arrow to open the bookmarks panel. You should be able to expand or collapse the bookmarks so you can move around among them quickly.

The New LACourtConnect Appearance App is now here for Probate, Traffic, Family Law, Civil, Small Claims and Unlawful Detained Litigations. LACourtConnect provides a convenient, safe option for appearing in court without having to come to court. Attorneys and their litigants can register for the remote appearance and receive all the information necessary to appear remotely via email. If needed, there are options to Cancel your remote appearance.

Step 3 - Navigating the Virtual Gallery

When you initially log in to LACourtConnect you will arrive in the Virtual Gallery. The Virtual Gallery allows you to view your upcoming hearings, monitor courtrooms for which you have a scheduled matter, test your equipment, and join your scheduled hearings.
