      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

A true account of military courage and survival, Lone Survivor wields enough visceral power to mitigate its heavy-handed jingoism.

David H Checked out after 45 minutes. Terrible script and pacing. Acting wasn't up to snuff either. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 04/11/24 Full Review Jason A movie to make any American's rod pop [8.6/10] Duck kid is best kid Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/29/24 Full Review Maverick M Great movie. Highly re-watchable too. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/01/24 Full Review Gareth v A solid enough action movie that will keep you entertained but it really lacks in telling us the background of why this happened in any detail, and with that it feels a bit underbaked. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/24/24 Full Review Forged S This was an endurance test. If you like watching people getting tortured for hours, this is the movie for you. Once again, war movies are hit and miss for me, especially when they're based on, or inspired by, real life events and people. Hollywood has a way of embellishing the truth for cinematic reasons and this movie is really no different. Hence the reason I strictly focus on the content the movie offers and not it's accuracy. That being said, this movie ranks high on my list. Peter Berg knows how to direct action in such a way that you feel each cut, scrape and broken bone. The cast did a stellar job making the moral quandary the film poses and consequences of the choice the characters make feel human and it's through Berg's expert lens we're forced to live through that experience with them. I left this movie exhausted, emotionally and physically. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/10/24 Full Review Angel R I don't like how they portrayed the erratic wait these guys got in trouble, how can Navy seal which we all should have a lot of respect where standing by to be attacked, be so slow and unprepared to retreat fast. It doesn't make any sense, or maybe this move is more rushing to show the failure of a single operation. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 12/25/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Candice Frederick Reel Talk Online Peter Berg's latest directorial effort, the Navy SEALs drama Lone Survivor, is no better than a limp retelling that fails to get underneath the surface of the actual story. Rated: D+ Sep 5, 2017 Full Review Chris Stuckmann ChrisStuckmann.com Despite the lack of character development, watching these guys struggle to prevail was enthralling and heartbreaking all at once. Rated: B+ Apr 23, 2015 Full Review Evan Williams The Australian For all its flaws it is both a gripping action thriller and an unforgettable depiction of the cold realities of war. My first reaction after seeing it was a simple one: this must be how it was. It may be the highest tribute I can pay. Rated: 3.5/5 Feb 18, 2014 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review Lone Survivor’s major saving grace is that it never resorts to actual flag-waving, but enough pro-military overtones subsist in the material to consider it an effective recruiting video. Rated: 2/4 Aug 18, 2022 Full Review Howard Gorman NME (New Musical Express) Peter Berg goes beyond the call of duty to forge a bond between the audience and the film's forlorn, leaving us hoping that the expected doesn't end up coming true. Jun 10, 2021 Full Review Richard Crouse Richard Crouse At its core it isn't a propaganda film or a slice of patriotism; instead it's a stark reminder of the camaraderie of soldiers in the field.
