Hi Ed. Appreciate the awesome info always.
I tried to search but can’t seem to find any recent info, what is your opinion of Benjamin Sesko as a forward/ striker for us?
He’s young and seems to be in form.

 0

{Ed002's Note - Sesko is not of any interest to Liverpool at this time and I doubt he would get in the team ahead on Nunez. But he is a very good player.}

 0

11 May 2024 16:30:02
Ed's do you think if Nunez were to leave we would look at Sesko.

 1

{Ed002's Note - No.}

 2

11 May 2024 17:19:51
The potential Salah replacements have been posted a few times but if Nunez were to leave Ed who could come in to replace him.

 0

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware of any plans for him to leave. A couple of the wide players looked at by Liverpool are versatile enough to play as a striker, but the club are not seemingly looking for a striker.}

11 May 2024 18:31:47
If anything changes re:Nunez it's likely to be his position but even that I'm not certain of. It depends on Slot's team planning.

 2

11 May 2024 19:07:19
Why do so called Liverpool supporters/ fans desperately want Nunez to go, every day posters asking about Nunez replacements etc, I must be one of the only ones on here that wants him to stay, I love everything about the man regardless of how he plays.

 12

{Ed014's Note - you need to read that last sentence again Sid.

 10

11 May 2024 21:17:27
I think he has done well. He has out scored / assisted saka who last year was being called for by fans to replace mo if he left.

 4

11 May 2024 23:36:39
Agree with Ed014.

 1

11 May 2024 23:45:45
Scouse John, Nunez has outscored/ assisted Saka? In what season?

 0

12 May 2024 00:41:02
It’s a matter of record on this forum that for about a season and two thirds I wasn’t convinced by Nunez. At the time I don’t think my opinion was shared by many people. I started to see his genuine potential about 3 or 4 months ago and I honestly think he can be a real asset for us. Of course, as soon as I changed my mind so did most other people and now I find myself in the minority again - funny old game football as Mr Greaves used to say.

I think that Nunez is a ‘confidence’ player - as per the recent in-depth debate re (top) performers and I think his own confidence dropped off a cliff when we were knocked out of the FA Cup. I also think his fragile confidence took a battering with the ‘criticism’ he took on social media as evinced by his removing the football content from his account (a move that shouldn’t be required but given the effect on him and, probably, his family was warranted) .

A bit of a break, a new manager, a fresh set up and hopefully the confidence in him from his team mates and he can shine for us.

12 May 2024 03:45:43
You would Ron.

 1

12 May 2024 05:58:31
Ron, you really do hate Nunez don't you.

 3

12 May 2024 07:03:37
Sesko? Don’t know how the supporters would feel about him running round in his thong thong thong thong? Or av I got the wrong one 🤣🤣🤣.

 2

12 May 2024 09:32:32
I don’t hate Nunez, I like him as a pro. I don’t know anything about him outside of football so that’s how I make my assessment of him.
I don’t think he’s good enough for a team which wants to challenge for the premier league.

If a football fan says “I love everything about the man REGARDLESS OF HOW HE PLAYS”?

That makes them more a Nunez fan than an LFC fan.

 0

12 May 2024 09:47:29
Sid19, it seems Nunez's detractors are trying their utmost best to insert "mind control" on to the LFC heirarchy to control them into getting rid of Darwin. Good luck with that, guys.

 0

12 May 2024 10:14:23
Do all of you Nunez supporters remember why we bought him?
When we played against him he destroyed our defence twice. He played out wide in both games so maybe central isn't his game?

 0

12 May 2024 10:14:41
Nunez certainly isn't on top form, but I think everyone can see that he has massive potential. Now I can't speak for others on here, but I would like to think that LFC is a club that would want to nurture players to reach their potential with us. If that's not the case then yeah we shouldn't be patient with him and get rid. If we are that sort of club then I think Nunez has all the attributes to be a top class number 9 and I believe he will get there, I believe the club will support him to get there and I think he wants to reach that level as well. And you know what even if he doesn't, even if he stays at the exact same level he is right now, he's still scored 18 goals and made 13 assists. That's good enough for me any season and that he can obviously be so much better than that makes keeping and supporting him a no brainer for me.

11 May 2024 13:31:37
Eds is there any interest in Jeremie Frimpong? 35m release clause and have him and bradley at RB and move trent into midfield.

 0

{Ed002's Note - Lots but not from Liverpool.}

 2

11 May 2024 18:15:12
There’s no reason to look at Frimpong with Connor Bradley coming through.

 5

11 May 2024 22:38:26
You need squad depth and rotation.

 0

12 May 2024 01:57:18
@VV, Bradley is 20 and his performance will suffer (like everybody else) if he is asked to play 60 games next season. If TAA moves into midfield, which I reckon he wants to do then we need cover for Bradley. It doesn’t look like it will be Ramsey and there is a strangely growing group who want to see Gomez leave (for reasons beyond me) .

10 May 2024 19:34:39
So Mbappe just tweeted: "It's my last year at Paris St-Germain. I will not extend and the adventure will come to an end in a few weeks. "

Is it too early to jump into silly season and say that we all know that tweet is cryptically saying he's coming to Liverpool?

Ken Aguero is in the babelcopter en route to sign as well but it's not looking likely that we'll get Turan over the line until January I'm afraid.

 10

10 May 2024 19:50:22
The mental gymnastics that some will do to convince themselves he’s remotely interested in joining us or that FSG would even sanction such a deal is mad. I can confidently say that Mbappe will never play for us in any capacity.

 14

10 May 2024 20:27:30
I heard he’s headed to Wrexham.

 11

10 May 2024 20:46:28
I don’t get the FSG comment, nothing to do with sanctioning the transfer.

 4

10 May 2024 21:28:25
Signing a pretty lucrative contract with Real Madrid with an even more lucrative signing on fee. With the reported figures, it's amazing how Real can be financially stable.

 8

10 May 2024 21:35:16
I’m not sure he’s that effective.

 12

10 May 2024 21:53:09
Give VV a break Drogie, he's gone nearly a whole year without soapboxing about what bad people our owners are.

 4

11 May 2024 08:03:34
@Stuie isn’t it the case that their line of credit is good with the Spanish Government financial institutions?

 2

11 May 2024 09:25:43
Jiddon was clearly being satirical. Some people’s lack of sense of humour is incredible. I’d have thought the Babel Copter was a dead giveaway, not withstanding the Ken Aguero classic!

 12

12 May 2024 00:51:44
I really wish mental gymnastics was an actual sport. I’d love to see it personified.

 2

12 May 2024 08:42:15
WDW I believe that was the cases not sure if it is still is or not. Weren't they just bankrolled by the main bank of Spain or something similar?

Hello ed2 hope u well? Do u know of any lfc interest in Colwell of chelsea? R chelsea stance on selling him? We rumoured to be interested in him both now and previously. I checked search here but anything on him is going back a year.

 1

{Ed002's Note - There was prior interest but Chelsea have no intention of selling regardless of some remaining interest from elsewhere.}

 5

10 May 2024 18:12:47
Thanks for response. Would prefer branthwaite myself but Colwell looked good as well.

 0

10 May 2024 18:23:51
Ed, I've read your summary on CB options that Liv is interested. It seems like there is no clear first choice for CB. Do you know if the club have their first choice CB? Or is it still to early to know?

 0

{Ed002's Note - Inacio would have been first choice. Hincapie would be on the list. David Hancko would perhaps be an option.}

11 May 2024 13:33:56
Can’t understand why we didn’t sign Gvardiol last summer. We missed the boat on so many great young players that moved the last few years in positions we needed players. Gvardiol, Bellingham, Haaland, Tchouameni to name a few.

 1

11 May 2024 16:36:31
Maybe because city did 🤷🏽‍♂️.

 2

12 May 2024 01:58:54
@OneKiss mostly because he didn’t want to sign for us. Nice you kept it under your hat until the last but one game of the season.

09 May 2024 13:52:11
Just passing a rumour that Alan Varela from Porto and Joao Gomes from Wolves are the targets for Liverpool.
Archie Gray of Leeds is being looked as a versatile replacement for Gomes and Endo.

 3

09 May 2024 14:46:00
I'd be very surprised if our summer targets were 3 midfielders given we signed 4 last year and we're in desperate need of replacing Matip, Thiago and probably Salah.

1 CB, 1 CM and 1 RW makes the most sense. I personally am hoping for a succession plan at LB as well, whoever that may be. Other than that surely just replacing any other surprise exits.

 12

09 May 2024 14:50:10
Varela would make perfect sense, in my opinion. As we need someone to rotate with Endo, if we play our traditional 4-3-3. Or, if we do play in a double pivot, a more defensive minded option than our current options.

However, I feel like in midfield we are already over stocked. Signings Gomes or Gray wouldn't make much sense. We have Mac Allister, Jones, Elliott, Szobo, Grav, possibly Trent, Clark, Bajcetic. All of which are fighting for two positions.

Now, Trent could stay at right back. Szobo move to a wing. But even then, the options are plentiful. I would rather we focus on key positions in need of strengthening, centre back being the key one. Maybe a left back, too, to provide competition / rotation with Robbo, as Tsimikas doesn't feel like a viable option any more.

Then, we would have to deal with any outgoings, there are already questions around Salah, Nunez and Diaz. I would not be surprised if at least one leaves, meaning we would have to sign a replacement, and at quite a sum. Doak will likely get another chance, but he had a long injury lay off, and didn't really impress when he did play.

Will be interesting to see what happens, though. Could be quite a few moving parts, from coaching staff to playing staff. It won't be boring, at least.

 5

09 May 2024 15:01:34
Varela and Gomes were players we were linked to us last winter window while they were still playing in South America. Slightly different players. Varela is your metronome, deep lying play maker. Gomes is more like your engine with good tackling, carrying and recovery pace. I think if you are seriously looking at those two then you have to question the LFC futures of Endo and Gravenberch, and maybe even Curtis.

Archie Gray is an interesting one. Not sure what position the lad will end up in. He's got a bit of Declan Rice about him. Could be a DM. Could be a CB. Could be a RB. Sounds like he'd be really expensive and given he's so young, a potential long term project. You could argue that his age and position profile is similar to Bajcetic. Gray is probably just a bit more physically developed by now.

 1

09 May 2024 15:43:06
FPF I can't say I've seen much of Gray. My mate is a Leeds fan though and thinks highly of him.

Varela I've only seen play twice (both against Arsenal) and he was exceptional to be fair. Wouldn't be against him as a Thiago replacement. Aggressive, mobile, technically looked sound too etc. An all around midfielder who'd probably pair very well with Mac Allister.

Gomes hasn't really done much at Wolves though when I've watched them. I don't know what his job is. He doesn't score or create, but then he's easily run off the ball too and doesn't shield the defence well either. Not impressed and not sure he's much better than Clark or Bajcetic. I would leave him well alone myself.

 6

09 May 2024 16:29:16
Not sure that I buy the “over stocked” argument as we’re absolutely crying out for a top class defensive midfielder, which has been evident throughout the season, almost reminds me of the summer before the 22/ 23 season when some of us were saying it was evident that our midfield needed a serious overhaul, only to hear bother fans try and argue how well stacked in midfield we were…. Wonder how what worked out?

Gomes looks a decent player, energetic, covers space well, defensively seems competent and good on the ball, same for Varela. Think either would be a good move for us.

 3

10 May 2024 01:35:17
I don't see thise two as mutually exclusive though VV. We can be overstocked in a single position while still needing new personnel in that same area. It just means that we have to sell a few players to make way for new ones. There are still squad restrictions we have to abide with in both the PL and Europe so we can't keep adding players without first making space.

 0

10 May 2024 02:40:21
Slot doesn't really use two 'tackling' defenders in his double pivot. They're both passers who's job is to cycle the ball around, keep possession and progress it. I'd be surprised if he wants to buy defensive minded midfielders because he doesn't really favour them.

 1

10 May 2024 08:32:16
Nevada, I don't know much about Slot teams but if that's the case Varela was very much a ball player and a ball winner from what I saw, but I'd be going all out for Koopmeiners. Mac Allister also has the ability to play in that throwback midfield 2 where you're required to be a little bit of both. I can also see the younger guys like Bajcetic and Clark fitting into this but Endo might struggle. His one touch passing game isn't great, and he's more of a ball winner than a player you want your build up play going through. Not seen enough of McConnell to know if he'd be up to the ball playing side of it but he looked a little unsure technically, and similar to Endo in that he prefers a battle.

If Slot does play with a double pivot, that also implies that he prefers to then play with a more orthodox no.10. Something that might suit Elliott, Gravenberch and Szoboszlai. Also Mac Allister is a very good no.10.

Be interesting to see if Morton and Carvalho get a chance. On paper Morton suits a double pivot role and Carvalho suits a no.10 role. I'm really excited for a change in system and how certain players might kick on.

 4

10 May 2024 11:07:42
Nevada, I know little about Slotball but I am sure Mats Weifer plays DM for Feyenoord and he is by all accounts a defensive midfielder.

If we are choosing to continue with playing DeZerbiBall and build up through centrebacks and deep lying midfielders then you can see why Varela might be a target.

Honestly though, I find the tactic unnecessarily risky and boring.

It's no coincidence that that Arsenal and City are likely to win the league because they are as physically dominant as they are technical.

I'd be very careful banking on Bajcetic for any position. We have no idea if he is over his injuries yet.

 2

10 May 2024 11:46:14
Trent would be perfect as a number ten been saying this for a while now with his range of passing .

 3

10 May 2024 14:53:45
Get varela in 100%, just the player we need, sell jones to free up places…. he is not good enough sorry. Then sort the defence out, matip gone Gomez can go too now even vvd possibly.

 1

{Ed077's Note - A whole new group of CB in one go? Won't be easy I'd say although Varane and Maguire might be on the market :-P

 0

10 May 2024 18:27:17
Ed1, on Archie Gray. Have you seen much of him? Seen peoples saying how good he is for a player at his age. Some even saying he could be a special player.

 1

{Ed001's Note - little bit and he is very good, but he has played most of the season out of position at right-back. Not sure he is entirely suited to that role.}

 3

09 May 2024 03:12:34
Expect Fulhams Robinson to be a major target. Tosin isn't going to happen. And Carvalho will have a fresh start which we all hope he will take.

 5

09 May 2024 07:27:49
I like Robinson I’d be very happy with that.

 5

09 May 2024 09:10:59
I've read he grew up in Liverpool as well and is a big fan of the club. Just about to enter his prime years and already a very solid left back defensively. He's not quite as effective as Robbo in the final 3rd, but I think our priority needs to be to stop leaking goals for fun next year and Robbo looks like he's slowed down a bit, despite being superb vs Spurs. We need our defence to give the front 5 or 6 a platform to go and express themselves, instead of feeling the pressure to score 3+ goals every game in case we wobble at the back.

 10

09 May 2024 10:00:06
An upgrade on tsimikas so I’m happy with that .

 5

{Ed025's Note - Mr Bean would be an upgrade on Tsimikas Dhfc.. :)

 6

09 May 2024 10:28:47
Robinson is a good player but we can do much better. Robertson is better than him. If we’re signing a left back it should be someone better than Robertson and make Robertson the understudy rather than signing an understudy.

 7

09 May 2024 11:17:39
Great athlete, good numbers. Could do what Robbo has done for us over the years.

However, not sure he is technical enough to play the way that the fullback role is evolving now.

So much will depend on what the new coach wants to do with his fullbacks. Getting another Robbo is pointless if we want them to use the right foot or invert into LCB or even midfield.

 1

09 May 2024 11:47:04
Oh no, Robinson, Robertson - going to cause problems for people of my age 🙁.

 7

09 May 2024 11:56:09
OneKiss, I think he's better defensively than Robertson already and possibly then any left back in the league. Had this conversation one some mates back in January, and I couldn't come up with one who is more defensively sound. He reminds me a bit of Kyle Walker in his ability to stand a winger up 1v1 and track runners.

I think you may have a point though regarding his ability going forward. He isn't as good as Robertson offensively and In my opinion he never will be because he lacks the technique on his crosses. Robbo has great whip and pace on his delivery hence why he takes set pieces as well. Robinson is more of a hit the by-line and cut it back kind of player. It often goes under the radar because of how good Trent is, but Robbo has the most Prem assists in history for a defender.

I'd be happy with Robinson myself, but I'd be lying if I said there wasn't aspects of the role Robertson is superior at.

 3

{Ed001's Note - if he is like Walker, then he is a woeful defender. Kyle Walker is one of the worst defenders I have ever seen 1v1 or at tracking runners. All he does is outrun people. He has no defensive mindset at all, that is why he keeps getting caught out this season as his pace is starting to go.}

 12

09 May 2024 12:04:31
I think he’s a great left back, great addition if we could get him. My cousin went out with him for a while when he was with Everton and Bolton, she used to go and watch him play.
Probably love to be back on Merseyside.

 4

09 May 2024 12:49:56
Easy WDW3 :

Left back = Robbo.

 2

09 May 2024 13:10:52
I get what you mean Ed001, as Walker does get caught napping and although he relies on pace it is effective a lot of the time to be fair. He's definitely over rated though, I agree. Robinson is less reliant on pace though and I think has better anticipation of danger. Just meant he reminds me of him in some ways in terms of his running power to just bully wingers out of games, like we've seen form Walker at times.

 3

{Ed001's Note - I am not convinced by Robinson, I think he is too reliant on pace and gets easily taken out of the game by the better teams. Plus it is pointless buying a wing-back like him when Slot favours inverted full-backs by all accounts. He will be useless cutting inside as he lacks technical quality on the ball. For me Robinson is at his level and very often goes missing as he is not quite good enough to step up.}

 8

09 May 2024 13:57:12
Robinson has had a good season and is a good player but that’s it. If Liverpool are signing a left back it should be someone like Davies or Theo Hernandez. I think the best thing to do is go with Robertson and keep Beck as competition. Sell Tsimikas. And spend in other areas.

 0

{Ed002's Note - Zero chance.}

 5

09 May 2024 13:58:58
Love it Ron 😁😁.

 3

09 May 2024 13:51:04
Kerkez or Ait-Nouri would be my preferences. Both are much better than Robinson technically.

 2

09 May 2024 13:51:27
What about Ait Nouri or Kerkez Ed1? Both better player than Robinson I think. I read some report saying that Slot doesn't fully inverted his full back, but rather only at certain time.

Maybe like Trent vs Spurs when he occasionally invert instead of fully inverted most of the time. And what I understand is that his full back still provide the width needed as he prefers his wingers playing closer to goal.

 2

{Ed001's Note - Ait Nouri is more skilfull and a better 1v1 defender, but he does have concentration issues and can go wandering without thought at times. I would take him rather than Robinson but I still wouldn't pay for him.

Kerkez is very good going forward, which he will do no matter the circumstances of the match. However he is a very weak defender.

Personally I would rather give Beck a chance than buy either of them. Robertson has a year at least in him to guide Beck on. Why spend needless money when the option is right there for free that is on a very similar level but with potential to be better?}

 10

09 May 2024 14:37:20
Agree on the inverted point Ed001. Can't see Robinson as being very effective at that.

If we're going to be playing the full backs inverted then i don't think it matters too much if they are left footed? So I'd probably go and test Spurs resolve for Porro or consider letting Slot bring Geertruida with him.

 2

{Ed001's Note - but they would still be playing out of position when the team drops off defensively. You still really are better with a left footer there.}

 4

09 May 2024 15:16:31
Ed001, I always thought it worked better for City in possession when Cancelo was at left back as a right footer because then he was coming inside onto his stronger foot. But fair point on the defensive side of it. Be interesting to see how Slot utilises his full backs though, as I hear he really likes to stretch the width of the pitch but then also hear he plays inverted full backs. Hard to see how you can do both unless he plays with really high and wide wingers.

 0

{Ed001's Note - Cancelo was a special case as he was so good.}

 3

09 May 2024 19:51:22
I think the choice of a new LCB will be someone comfortable playing LB. Rotating with Robbo dependent on the opposition.

A more defensively minded LB would provide more cover when Trent goes AWOL as the inverted RB.

 0

09 May 2024 20:50:27
Do you think Beck can play inverted Ed? Looks a player be a shame if he couldn’t fit into the setup.

 0

{Ed001's Note - I think he can, he has the necessary technical ability. Not sure it makes the most of him though, he is much better at getting forward than holding deep.}

 4

10 May 2024 00:53:50
Chambers is also able to play LB and LCB. I think he played both positions when he was out on loan at Bolton last season.

 4

10 May 2024 08:41:44
Interesting Ed1. Do you think Beck is as good as Bradley? I know how high you rate Bradley, wonder if you see him in the bracket as him.

 0

{Ed001's Note - no, not at that level.}

 1

12 May 2024 09:52:36
FlyPelicanFly, exactly. Seen the kid play and sure he has pace to burn and can get forward on the overlap BUT he is not a good defender, lacks any type of end product and is bang average technically. Oh, and he is NOTHING like Robbo, imo.

We can definitely do better than him or better yet, give Owen Beck a shot rather than overpaying for someone that bang average. Just my take.
