DC vs MI highlights, IPL 2024: Delhi Capitals beat Mumbai Indians by 10 runs

Well, that's that. It was a teasing win for Delhi Capitals. Right till that final over Mumbai Indians threatened to get there but in the end it was a touch too far from their grasp. Tilak Varma fought hard but the wicket just kept slowing down and Rasihk did deliver a magnificent spell in the end to take Capitals to 10 points. 

Mumbai Indians need 25 runs from the final over to win this game. Once again Mumbai throughout this chase has been a tad bit behind it has come down to the final over to make that up. But the only problem is they have only Tilak who has to do it. 

Well, it was a mixed bag over for Mumba Indians. Tim David started it with a flurry of boundaries and then Pant decided he would come up to the stumps which disturbed the rhythm of David and he was trapped in front of the wicket. Mumbai are not out of it but Delhi need to get over the line here. 

Excellent over from Rashikh under the circumstances he just gave away seven runs when the required rate is over 18s. This has been top-notch spell from him it will be a tough job for the adjudicator to pick a Man Of the Match after the game. 

Mumbai need 71 runs from the final four overs. Delhi is not one of the best bowling teams at the death but it is still a lot of work left to be done. While Mumbai has two batters who have got their eye on it is important that they stay till the end as it seems like a difficult wicket for batters to start hitting from ball one. 

Tilak Varma climbed onto Kuldeep in that previous over. He smacked him all around the ground. For the first time in this year's tournament, Kuldeep has looked out of his depth. They are still hanging by a thread in this game are the Mumbai Indians. 

Khaleel is done for the day. It is his spell which has given Delhi the advantage and put them ahead in the defence. Outstanding game he had once again. Tim David has walked into the middle with a lot of work left to do. 

That is an excellent over from Rasikh probably the over which turned the game around. First, it was Hardik who got beaten by the slower one and then it was Wadhera who tried to guide the ball to third man and ended up giving a simple catch to Pant. 

Mukesh has been brought back into the attack for his second over and did bowl an expensive over. However, there is not much worry for Capitals because the run rate is required exactly where they want it to be. MI need a blistering cameo at the death from one of their hitters. 

Impact sub has been brought into the attack by Delhi Capitals. Rasikh has been brilliant in the last game with his slower ones and looks like it is going to be the same tactic from the Capitals here. The Mumbai Indians need to up their ante here. 

Well, there have been a couple of big overs for Mumbai Indians now with Hardik smacking the spinners all around the park. If Mumbai has to get anywhere close Hardik needs to play a blinder here. But it is still a long way away this chase. 

Spin has been introduced from Delhi and this is a very crucial stage in the game. Unlike Mumbai spinners who are experts in T20 bowling the DC spinners can make use of these slow conditions by tossing the ball and giving the revs to the ball.

On the final over of the powerplay Suryakumar Yadav has departed it is the slower ball again which does the damage. It must be said it is hard to understand the reason behind Hardik opting to bowl first as there won't be any dew and the exposure to scorching heat.

Mukesh picks the wicket of Ishan on the first ball of his spell both openers have now departed and Mumbai is in a lot of trouble. While Surya is looking in good touch he needs someone else to contribute from the other end as well if MI need to get anywhere closer to the target.

Rohit trying to hit Khaleel over the top was holed out at mid-off in the ring. The big wicket for DC. Suryakumar has walked into the middle and flicked one over fine-leg for a six. The thing MI needs to be wary of here is the making use of this powerplay. As we update Ishan Kishan departs.

Ishan Kishan smacked one straight back and Lizaad Williams tried to stop the ball which has hand and injured his finger. The physio has walked into the middle to give the bowler some attention. The innings are going at a snail's pace at the moment. 

Khaleel took the new ball from the other end and he gave away 15 runs. Ishan Kishan smacked him for three boundaries in that over. This has been a good start to the chase for Mumbai Indians but they need to carry this on for the rest of the evening. 

That opening over took ever to be completed from Lizaad Williams he slipped while delivering the first ball and then he had a change of boot and bowled a no-ball and a wide in that first over which made a 10-minute. However, he did bowl with a bit of heat. 

That’s my role, go out there and score as many as I can and get the team off to a nice start. Not at all, if I get ones and twos it’s probably off the last ball of the over or if I mis-hit it. It’s something I’ve always had, getting that base right and having the right stance. There’s a lot of timing involved in it. The ones that you mis-hit, you need to have a strong core, upper body and glutes as well.

Well, that's the end of the innings. It has been another innings where bowling has been decimated. Weather it is good or bad cricket is something to ponder upon. It is going to be brutal hitting from Mumbai as well however, it all depends on if the wicket is slowed up enough to help the DC spinners. 

That is death bowling at its best from Jasprit Bumrah. He kept mixing his lines and lengths brilliantly. Also, he was spot-on with his yorkers. This is also the highest score for Delhi Capitals in the history of IPL.

That was a superb over from Delhi's perspective as Stubbs climbed onto Wood extracting 28 runs of that over. All the momentum that which Capitals lost after the strategic time out they regained in that single over. This is not looking good for Mumbai.

Another good over from Mumbai Indians this time it was Tushara who took the pace of the ball and gave just nine runs away. Mumbai needs to be watching this carefully and need to make as many runs as possible in the Powerplay when the ball is news.

Bumrah has been brought back into the attack and he delivered an 8-run over. He bowled a leg-stump half-volley which was hit to six by Pant. However, he pulled back the remainder of the over nicely. It will be interesting to see how Hardik uses his options here.

Piyush Chawla done for the day and he had an excellent outing compared to other bowlers. There was a review in the middle of the over which hit the pads of Pant and was not given out however, the ball was pitching outside the leg and MI lost a review. 

Expensive over but Wood took the wicket of Hope who flicked one straight to Tilak Varma at mid-wicket and no respite for Mumbai Indians as Stubbs walked into the middle. With six overs remaining, we are once again looking at one of 250+ scores.

Tushara has been brought back into the attack here and he bowled slower ones which were gripping a bit and faster ones where smacked to the boundary from Pant. Looks like we are going to have another high-scoring game on cards here. 

Shai Hope now has the measure of the Mumbai bowling attack he is going after the spinners. He is playing some big shots and on a wicket which is gripping a bit Mumbai bowlers are not helping themselves either by bowling quick through the air.

Nabi gets the breakthrough. Abhishek Porel tried to go down the track to whack the off-spinner on the leg-side and got the edge to the keeper Kishan who also took the bails off to make sure it was stumped as well. Pant has walked into the middle

It is a better over from Wood compared to his first one. Delhi seems to be losing a bit of momentum in the last 10 minutes or so here. Either Abhishek of Hope needs to continue the devastating work McGurk did early in the game. 

We have a slight delay here as Luke Wood's delivery hit Porel who seems to need some attention from the Physio. Delhi would be hoping it is nothing serious and the youngster can continue with his innings. 

Piyush Chawla gets the breakthrough. McGurk trying to keep the momentum going pulled one which went high in the air and was caught at mid-wicket. Relief for Mumbai Indians they would be hoping to get in a few quiet overs here. 

Hardik Pandya has brought himself into the attack and let Porel get into a rhythm as well by delivering freebies. In addition to that,, there was an overthrow which went for five runs. He does have the option of Nabi to use as well.

That is an excellent final over from Bumrah just giving away three runs from the over. Mumbai have taken the bowling strategic time out. The wicket seems to be a touch on the slower side the visitors might look to bowl more overs of spin after the Powerplay.

20 runs came off that first over from Hardik. This is already looking like it is going to be a long afternoon for Mumbai Indians. It is hard to understand why won't Mumbai use Bumrah for another over when the situation seems to be going out of hand. 

Mcgurk has now scored fourth fastest 50 in 15 balls equalling his record which he made against Lucknow Super Giants earlier in the tournament. Hardik has turned to Piyush early in the piece. As we update Pandya has brought himself into the attack.

Thushara has been brought into the attack and he started expensively as well. McGurk in three overs is almost nearing his 50. This is clean striking of the cricket ball from the young Australian player. Hardik needs to act quickly here.

Another expensive over from Mumbai Indians it is Jasprit Bumrah who has taken a bit of pasting from Mcgurk. The bowler started with a no-ball which went for six and followed it up with a free hit which ran away for boundary. This is a blistering start from the Capitals.

Luke Wood has taken the new ball for Mumbai Indians and McGurk climbed onto the bowler giving away 19 runs in that opening over. One over into the game the intensions from Delhi Capitals seem to be pretty clear.

It's a fantastic wicket, not the biggest of grounds. So it's very hard on the bowlers, it's really, really not easy on the bowlers. If you look at the way it's going on all around the IPL, the bowlers are getting carted all over. That's one area that needs to be looked at in the future, a proper balance between bat and the ball

Just before the toss, Prithvi Shaw was seen talking to coach Ricky Ponting. Shaw was pointing towards the discomfort in his right hand. Interestingly, last evening Shaw was dragged out of the nets by a side arm specialist after he was inistiting to carry on in the thunderstorm. Shaw is being replaced by Kumar Kushagra.

We were looking to bat first. I think it will get slower in the second innings. It has been amazing, we're getting the kind of wickets we want. As a team we have to play well and we have been. This is something we talked about - how to control the innings. Bowling with the new ball and bowling at the death is difficult, one over here or there is making all the difference. Just one change, Privthvi Shaw misses out and Kumar Kushagra comes in.

We're going to bowl first. The ground is small. It's better to bat second on a smaller ground. Every game is a new game, we make sure we are not out. We keep fighting and keep coming hard in each game. The mood is fine, happy chats, all is well. You should not really focus on what has happened in the past. Anyone can beat anyone. Our goal is to play our brand of cricket and put our best foot forward. Only one change. Coetzee has a stomach bug, Luke Wood comes in for him

We are looking at every game now as a must-win game. You never really look at a game as you can lose, we want to win every single game and we need to now. The wicket might be a bit better, the outfield is quick and the grounds are very small, the impact player rule has also helped that (massive scores this season), having more batters or bowlers when needed, I think those are the key reasons. It has been an amazing experience. Delhi franchise has welcomed me with open arms, all the players have made me feel comfortable led by Ricky Ponting, he's really good, David Warner as well is making me feel comfortable. I think assessing the conditions early, whoever does that first would come out on top. It could be a bit different here in the day than it is at night. We will see how it turns out.

He added: “First of all, Hardik needs to play throughout the full year. He cannot pick and choose. Indian cricket needs to stop doing that. Stop giving preferences to individuals, if you do that, you will not be winning major tournaments. What Australia has been doing for many years is that they are actually preferring the team game. Making everyone a superstar. Not one superstar, everybody is a superstar in the squad. If you don’t do that, you will not win big tournaments.”

“What I feel about Hardik Pandya is that Indian cricket needs to make it clear… they should not give him that much priority as they have given him so far, because we still haven’t won the World Cup. If you think you are a primary all-rounder, you need to make that kind of an impact at the international level. As far as the all-rounder spot is concerned he hasn’t made that impact at the international level, we are only thinking about the potential. We are getting confused between the IPL performances and the international performances. That’s a big difference,”

"From an individual side, I'd feel confident that I'm capable of scoring as quickly as anyone in the competition. That doesn't happen on certain days but if we get the opportunity I'm sure...if we get a pitch like the last time they got last time in that game in Delhi - the Hyderabad game - hopefully we can put a score like that up. But again, it's tough to say what will happen because there's so much skill on show. Guys are pushing (the bar) on expectations of what is a good score in T20 cricket. As an international player I have some experience playing in different grounds around the world, different conditions, and there's certainly been some very high scores in this IPL"
