CSK vs PBKS highlights, IPL 2024: Punjab Kings defeats Chennai Super Kings by seven wickets

Shardul into the attack. Rossouw greets him with a SIX over point. Terrific shot. Another boundary, this time Shashank Singh with a stellar straight drive. OUT!! Rossouw is cleaned up. He missed a full toss while trying to slog. 

Jadeja for his third over. CSK has requested to change the ball and it has been granted. A quiet over. Just three runs from it. 

Shivam Dube into the attack. Slightly short first up, Rossouw pulls to deep mid for a single. WICKET!! Dube with the breakthrough, Bairstow edges it straight to the keeper.

Moeen Ali into the attack. Rossouw gets a single to deep mid. Six!! Bairstow hangs pack and lofts one over Gaikwad at mid on. Four!! Bairstow’s hand comes off as he looks to sweep, the fielder comes forward to catch but it runs through for a boundary. 

Jadeja into the attack. Bairstow cuts to third man for a single. Rossouw gets a single to fine leg. Four!! Cut late and it runs past short third for a boundary. Four!! Rossouw finishes the over off with a boundary. Ten runs from it. 

Thakur returns. Four!! Slightly short and wide, cut through the offside for four. Wide to Rossouw as well, cut to deep point for a single. Four!! Short ball, Bairstow pulls it past mid on for a boundary. 13 from the over. 

Fizz continues. Bairstow drives one down the ground, Gaikwad does well at mid off to keep it to a single. Four!! Too full, Rossouw lofts it over midwicket for four. Four!! Short ball outside off, Rossouw carves it over point for a boundary. 

WICKET!! Gleeson returns and removes Prabhsimran first ball!! Full on the stumps, Prabhsimran top edges his loft and Gaikwad completes an easy catch.

Mustafizur Rahman into the attack. Prabhsimran gets a single first ball. Bairstow nudges one to point and sets off for a risky single. Fizz gets one to move in, goes just pass the offstump and the bat. CSK appeal for lbw, is turned down. They opt for the review. Inside edge and review is lost.

Arshdeep to bowl the final over. Starts with a wide. Low full toss and Dhoni hits a boundary. Another full but this time Dhoni misses it. Another wide. Dhoni lofts towards off side Mitchell wants a run but Dhoni sends him back. Dot on the fourth ball. SIX! Low full toss again and this time Dhoni connects it and goes over cover. Dhoni slices just over short third. They attempt a double but Dhoni can’t reach on the second run and is OUT FOR THE FIRST TIME THIS SEASON. 

Chahar to bowl the penultimate over. Dot ball. Another dot ball. Very close to the leg stump! Takes a single on the third ball. OUT! Moeen Ali goes for a slog, misses it and the stumps are shattered. Arshdeep is back. Moeen hits it straight towards long off and the fielder not only drops it but the ball goes over the fence for a SIX! Full and Moeen once again smacks it straight for four. Third wide of the over. Yorker and Gaikwad is gone. Tried to make a room but couldn’t get bat to ball. MS Dhoni in at number seven. Takes a single on the first ball. 

Sam Curran. Gaikwad cuts over point for four! It’s a waist height no-ball as well. In the slot and Gaikwad launches it over long on for a SIX! First six of the innings. He reaches his fifty as well. Bouncer and Gaikwad this time pulls it towards square leg for another six. 

Rabada for his last over. Finally a boundary for CSK! Rizvi late cuts past keeper. On replays, it turns out it was an inside edge. He upper cuts the next ball and is caught at deep third. CSK four down. Moeen Ali at the crease. Dealing in singles. Nine runs from the over.

Harshal Patel into the attack. Too wide down the leg and it goes for four! Five runs without any ball bowled. Three runs in first three legal balls. A double on the fifth ball. 12 runs from the over.

Arshdeep with the second over. Wide outside off stump, Gaikwad misses the cut. Minimal bounce on that. Extra bounce on the second ball, beats Gaikwad’s prod. Four!! Outside offstump again, Gaikwad punches it through the covers for a boundary. A quick single to Gaikwad despite Shashank stopping the ball at cover. Four!! Outside off again, Gaikwad lofts it over slip for a boundary.

Short of a length, rises up and catches Rahane by surprise. Short again, Rahane tucks it behind for a single. On a length outside off, Gaikwad guides it to third man for a single. Rahane follows it up with a single to point. Four runs from the first over. 

This is Ruturaj Gaikwad’s ninth toss loss in ten games since the start of IPL 2024. Not ideal considering dew is a factor in the second innings at Chepauk.

Flying high after a world record chase against Kolkata Knight Riders, Punjab Kings (PBKS) will try to hunt down Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in another away clash of the Indian Premier League 2024 at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Wednesday. 

CSK head coach Stephen Fleming believes his team will hold an edge over Punjab as the visitors are required to adapt to the new conditions here. “I would assume that the Kings would be buoyed by their performance in the last game, but they’ll also be realistic. They have to adjust to new conditions. Chennai is a little bit different.

Dube has scored 350 runs while striking at over 170. The left-hander also made the cut for the 15-man India squad for the T20 World Cup 2024. 

On Dube’s selection, Fleming said, “It’s fantastic. He has proven this year that there’s a lot more to him than just spinners. He has raw power. And in the World Cup, you need some X-factor players, so I’m delighted that he’s going to get the opportunity. He’s a lot more complete in terms of what he’s trying to do and understanding this game and that comes with a little bit of experience. 

“We’ve benefited from him and he is working hard on areas in which he wasn’t so strong, also continuing to develop his strength, which is the ability all along and quite regularly, and he’s done that for us this year. So that form continues and he’s going to be an impactful player for India.”

Following its thumping 78-run win over Sunrisers Hyderabad, Chennai Super Kings will look to move clear of a tight midfield pack of teams when it takes on a mercurial Punjab Kings at the MAC Stadium here on Wednesday. 

The Super Kings bounced back in style against SRH with a clinical performance. Ruturaj Gaikwad continued his merry run while Daryl Mitchell finally found form. More importantly, the hosts’ bowlers took wickets in the PowerPlay thanks to Tushar Deshpande, an area where the side has struggled often this season.

However, the form of Ajinkya Rahane continues to be a cause of concern, and there is an argument for giving someone like Sameer Rizvi an opportunity.
