Word Up! Lyrics

[Intro: All, Perrie, Leigh-Anne, Jade, *Jesy*]
W-O-R-D, we're comin' up
K-K-Keep it, keep it comin' up
So, do your dance, do your dance, do your dance quick, mama
Come on, baby, tell me, what's the word? (Ow!)
Woo! Word up
Word up (*C'mon, c'mon, woo!*)

[Verse 1: Perrie, Perrie & Jade]
Yo, pretty ladies around the world
Got a weird thing to show ya, so tell all the boys and girls
Tell your brother, your sister and your mama, too
'Cause we're about to throw down, and you know just what to do

[Pre-Chorus: Jade]
Wave your hands in the air like you don't care
Glide by the people as they start to look and stare
Do your dance, do your dance, do your dance quick, mama
Come on, baby, tell me, what's the word?

[Chorus: All]
Word up, oh, everybody say
When you hear the call, you've got to get it underway
Word up, oh, it's the code word
No matter where you say it, you know that you'll be heard
[Verse 2: Leigh-Anne, All, Leigh-Anne & Jade, Perrie]
All you sucker DJs who think you're fly
There's got to be a reason and we know the reason why
You try to put on those Airs and act real cool
(You ain't cool)
But you got to realise that you're acting like fools (Woo)

[Pre-Chorus: Jesy, All]
If there's music, we can use it, we need to dance
We don't have the time for psychological romance
No romance, no romance, no romance for me
, mama
Come on, baby, tell me, what's the word?

[Chorus: All]
Word up, oh, everybody say
When you hear the call, you've got to get it underway
Word up, oh, it's the code word
No matter where you say it, you know that you'll be heard

[Bridge: All, Jesy, Leigh-Anne, Jade]
W-O-R-D up! (Oh-oh-oh)
W-O-R-D up! (Eh, yeah, ooh)
W-O-R-D up! (Everybody say)
W-O-R-D up! (Yeah, hey)

[Breakdown: All, Jesy, Perrie]
W-O-R-D, we're comin' up (Dial "L" for low)
K-K-Keep it, keep it comin' up
So, do your dance, do your dance, do your dance quick, mama
Come on, baby, tell me, what's the word?
Word up (Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)
Word up, word up, ow! Hey, hey
[Chorus: All, Jesy, Jade, Leigh-Anne]
Word up, oh, everybody say
When you hear the call, you've got to get it underway (Get it underway)
Word up, oh, it's the code word (Oh, woah)
No matter where you say it, you know that you'll be heard
Word up (Baby, oh, woah), oh, everybody say
When you hear the call, you've got to get it underway (Oh)
Word up, oh, it's the code word (Ahh)
No matter where you say it, you know that you'll be heard
Yeah, hey-ah

What did Little Mix say about "Word Up!"?
Genius Answer

When explaining why “Word Up!” is one of her least favourite Little Mix tracks, singer Jade Thirlwall explained:

It was an alright version, our cover of “Word Up!,” but we didn’t really want it to be that song. When we had the option to pick a cover for a charity single, we had so many great options. We had more R&B, cooler songs as options to do. But, we just ended up going with “Word Up!,” and whilst we did a good job of it, I always think, “That choice could’ve been something bigger and better.”
