Sophomore: The school has little some diversity but a very small african-american and native american student body, as somebody who isn't willing to shell out the big-bucks for a mac and a iPhone 15, you feel so out of place. If you ever try to make a new group, especially a sports based one, it is almost impossible to get any time allocated to practice. My group had to practice at the middle school because they wouldn't let us use the cafeteria after cheer was done, all because the coach is a administrator. The teachers are great, are super engaging and really push you. But, due to the high-class nature of the school only 1/2 of the students actually put in effort. Not all of us can trust-fund our way into a state school. Sports are also super competitive, and within a mixed sport like track, it was about 2/3 boys. So, this school is great if you have any of these qualities; white, have a double household income with both making 6-figures, be part of a nuclear family with 1-2 siblings etc.... Read 258 reviews

Alum: I went to Lakeridge all four years including during the COVID-19 pandemic. There were a few bumps during that time but overall Lakeridge prepared me quite well academically and now I'm a first year college student. I rarely had bad experiences with teachers, and many had a lasting impact on me. The administration also was supportive most of the time. As mentioned by others, Lakeridge is definitely not very diverse, leading to some issues regarding cultural awareness. Lakeridge used to feel very inclusive but over time, maybe due to the pandemic, it became a lot more cliquey. Senior: I moved to Sunset in the beginning of my Sophomore year and I have loved my experience here. I am originally from Hillsboro, Oregon and although it is only 30 minutes away, the culture here is so much more encouraging. Attending Sunset has allowed me to grow academically and personally in many ways. The teachers here are attentive and they value their students' success. The students here are amazing and it truly does feel like a community. When I moved, I was so afraid that I would never find friends like I had back home. That quickly changed as I learned the students at Sunset were very welcoming. I love the school spirit here which makes all of the school events super fun. Most importantly, I feel as if Sunset caters better to my goals compared to the high school I last attended. The competitive environment at Sunset has pushed me to advocate for myself. Senior: The best part is all the people I have met along the way. All of my best friends have come from the school and because we have the shared experience of classes and teachers, we have such a strong bond. Additionally, the teachers at the school can make or break a class. For example, my AP Lit teacher has made English the class I'm always looking forward to. One negative aspect of the school is the entitlement some people have. Coming from a small, wealthy neighborhood. Many people have an attitude that screams "I'm better than you" and brings down the whole school's energy. Additionally, the political aspect behind sports is insane. If parents want something one way, the coaches will listen and coach the team the way the parent wants. It's pointless to have some coaches because the parents do all the coaching anyways.... Junior: Westview High school has a very diverse student population. The best thing about our school is that every student is passionate about what they do- whether it be sports, clubs, music, academics, or even school assemblies! The one issue I'd like to address is the vaping affairs taking place in the bathroom. Anytime we enter the bathroom, there is always someone vaping there. Senior: I have enjoyed learning the curriculum for each of my classes, and have had a good experience preparing for IB exams. My teachers have all taught the curriculum very well, and have been able to explain in more depth and answer any questions I or anyone else has had. I have met amazing people at Tualatin High School, some of whom are my best friends right now, and I am so appreciative to have had the chance to make friends and meet new people here. I think I would like to see more action regarding getting kids to class on time because I know a lot of kids who skip classes on a daily, and there are little to no repercussions sometimes, so I think being a bit harsher concerning getting every student to class on time would be a good addition to the school's policies. You have the opportunity to start taking college classes your freshman year, and if you are 16 or older you have the option to take classes and Washington State University. The worst part of my experience would probably be the teachers. Senior: Columbia River is a decent school overall. River has an array of clubs that represent several communities so everyone has a place to feel comfortable. The Diversity Equity Club has worked to promote community and inclusion. Despite the clubs, River still has its issues, one of which is hate speech. As a member of DEC, I often hear students' experiences of witnessing hate speech in the halls and classrooms while staff just brush off the incidents or ignore them. These incidents make them feel ignored. River has good pockets of people but once you step out of those pockets you start to notice the problems. The first step to change is to inform. Our school’s clubs and news channels do a good job about spreading awareness among students. However, I’d like to see more action from the school faculty. Senior: I have really enjoyed my 4 years attending Union, and there really isn't much I would change. If i were to be picky, I reevaluate how we spend money in the sports department. The varsity volleyball team my senior year didn't get any gear other than our jerseys, which came in very limited sizes. Senior: My experience with Sherwood High School has been an excellent journey so far. I’ve been there the past 3 years of my high school career and have had very fun experiences I will never forget. The football games were always so much fun and had a theme to match. The schools dances like prom turned out to be an amazing time full of dancing, music and great friends. The sports and activity department have mainly made this experience a great one. The teams are welcoming and exciting and also a ton of fun. Grant did a good job of helping the students get back into the flow of being at school, and introducing us to the changes between middle school and high school. The teachers at my school are my favorite part. Each of them are caring and seem passionate about what they teach and how they interact with each student. Senior: I enjoyed going to Henrietta Lacks. Some things that I liked most about it were the small classes, and easy opportunities to get extra support from teachers. This school is a school of sciences, making it easy to choose different classes that suit your taste in science. We also have very realistic lab rooms. The Nursing pathway had mannequins to which you could take vitals and provide care. It assisted you in achieving your CNA license. Biomedical engineering is where you get to apply engineering to medicine. Biotechnology is where you get to learn about cell biology, DNA, and molecular science. You get to work in labs and perform the actual extraction of molecules and DNA. Public health focuses on vaccinations, Immunology, epidemiology, and physiology of aging. The last pathway you can choose is pharmacy in which you get to make and study medications and work on them in a mock pharmacy the school has. Senior: Tigard High School overall has been an amazing place for me to grow as a young adult, and has set me up very well for the next steps after graduation. Some great things about Tigard is how they always make sure you are on track to graduate no matter what, and there is always someone there and easily accessible to ask questions if you are feelings stuck. As an athlete, the culture around sports is something that has truly shaped who I am, and I can thank the high school facilities for that. Without a field or a gym, sports would not be possible and I am very lucky to have the space I had while playing soccer. My coaches were always amazing, along with my teachers as well. One negative to the school as a whole is when it comes to situations where people feel unheard. Staff do a great job at listening to what is going on, but there are not often further precautions that take place to make sure things will not happen again. Senior: With the exception of one math teacher, I have enjoyed my teachers from freshman through senior year. There are a lot of challenging courses with teachers who care. Senior: Southridge High School attempts to encourage an accepting and diverse culture. There is a recognition of other cultures through clubs, these clubs are encouraged to have events such as fundraisers and assemblies. I am a leader of the school’s QSA club and a part of the school’s Dual Language Program. As a club leader I feel safe to hold meeting and supported by most staff members. As a student in the Dual Language Program I know the teachers in the program genuinely encourage and help me to succeed. The AVID program is a great resource in college readiness. The school’s bathrooms have some issues, last year a lot of the boys bathrooms were unusable. Students were getting in trouble for “wandering the halls” when looking in different parts of the school for a working bathroom. The school isn’t perfect but there are staff who’re trying. Alum: Corbett high school is a small school up in the country. Corbett has a hands on learning environment with several club opportunities. With a small population of 400 students, the community is tight nit and familiar. This is an experience I couldn't have gotten from a big high school. However, Corbett could improve their standards when it comes to inappropriate language and behavior. The past few years Corbett high school has been trying to aim for equality in education. Throughout my time there I heard racial and homophobic language in the hallway with minor repercussions.
