Hostelworld says

The Independente Hostel & Suites is set in a stunning, opulent building originally built as an ambassador?s residence. This means the rooms are spacious and feature high ceilings so there?s plenty of space for the comfortable, custom-made bunk beds. Hostelworld guests have had high praise for the friendly staff, saying they ?always seem to have smiles on their faces?. They also have an onsite bar and beer garden ? and we particularly like the delicious food in their restaurant.

Property Description

Set in the liveliest neighbourhood in Lisbon, between Príncipe Real and Bairro Alto, this 19th-century palace is home to one of Lisbon's most stylish hostels!

Set in front of the city's most beautiful view point (Miradouro Sao Pedro de Alcantara), The Independente offers both the chance to stay in a premium location as well as the comfort sought after by any backpacker.

A restaurant, a bar, an exclusive guest lounge and a secluded beer garden where locals and travellers alike meet every day are part of The Independente experience. Everybody says that if you want to know a city you must know its locals!

Our 12, 9 and 6-bed dorms are spacious and aired, and all include our custom designed triple bunk beds, with built-in secure storage. Counting 90 beds in total, we have exclusive female dorms, and plenty of bathrooms throughout the building.

Loved it here. Our first stop on a 6 week backpacking trip and it set us up for a great trip overall. Staff was very friendly and the beds were comfy and there was plenty of room to store our bags in the lockers

The Independente Hostel & Suites says

I think what really sets us apart are the many extra we offer our guests to keep them busy and comfortable. There's Wi-Fi, six guest computers with internet, a PS3, board games, documentary and movie nights, Portuguese wine nights, our Belém bike tour, a fado night out and more. Our bar tour is a lisbohemian rhapsody - and our indie improv tour is a walking tour adaptable to our guests' wishes! We even have year-round surf classes and surf tours for the lowest prices in town. And after all that there's dinner with the staff, served every day for â'¬5. Plus our beautiful courtyard/beer garden often holds concerts of some of the most exciting Portuguese artists...it's the perfect place to chill out, read a book, have a drink and catch some sun - and it has one of the top 20 restaurants in Lisbon (according to Time Out magazine).
