Perfect location! Right by the lake and the lift bridge. In the Canal Park area with restaurants, shopping and boat excursions within a short walk. Great rooms and helpful staff. Good breakfast in the mornings. Very satisfied with my stay.
The hotel is called the Lift Bridge Lodge. I didn't see Comfort Inn or Ascend signs, which initially threw me off

We had one-night stays at the beginning and end of our trip (North Shore and Ely between). The first time we had a view of the two lighthouses which was very charming, and the second time our room faced the parking lot and Canal Park. The hotel has an upscale feel and we liked it very much. The front desk staff were thorough and helpful. Because of COVID-19, they took our breakfast order the day before and it was ready to pick up at the time we specified. They offered everything that would normally be on their buffet including hot scrambled eggs and sausage. We picked it up and ate in the dining room which looks out at the Lakewalk. Hotel staff poured the drinks (coffee, juice, milk) to avoid guests touching all that. This hotel is very close to the Aerial Lift Bridge and you can easily walk to everything in Canal Park.

We loved staying at this hotel. Staff was amenable to our requests. The King Suite worked for the two of us. Even the city-view room was good looking at the Canal Park area, watching the aerial lift bridge and big boats. Location right on the harbor walking path was great and easy walking distance to all the Canal Park establishments. Breakfast was okay.

This is really not a review I had hoped to write but I have had no response from corp and I feel it need to be posted.
To whom it may concern,

On July 26, 2020 I reserved a room at your comfort suite in canal park, Duluth, Minnesota for September 15th thru Sept 17th. I reserved a lakeview king suites with a balcony, fireplace and 2 person hottub. I made sure I did not reserve a ground floor room, since I have claustrophobia and need to be able to open a curtain at night. I booked this type of room since it was my 25th wedding anniversary and this hotel had sentimental meaning to us. We spent our wedding night and a few days after here.

On September 2nd. I called the hotel directly to make sure that I still had the room I booked and she told met that I had a corner room with a king size bed, fire place and hottub with a view of the lift bridge from the balcony and large windows facing the lake. I told her I needed to make sure I had a balcony and she said I did. I then requested the 3rd floor but the 2nd floor would be ok, I explained it was my 25th wedding anniversary and had spent my wedding there. She said It's not a guarantee, but she would put it in the notes and it would depend on the staff on duty that day, but it shouldn't be a problem.

We arrived at the hotel on September 15, 2020 and asked if we could check in early. We were only 20 minutes early. The staff person on duty said it wasn't a problem. I gave her my name and she proceeded to check us in. She informed me that they put me in a ground floor room and the third level was already filled. I told her that then the second floor would be fine and she informed us that it was not an option. I asked her why and she told us it was just not possible. She would not even look at us. She then told us that they had set aside a second floor king with balcony, if we had wanted it. This room was a significant down grade from the room we had booked. No mention of a rate reduction for all the changes.

I do understand that request cannot always be accommodated but I have done this at many hotels (choice included) and have never had a problem. I have never heard of a balcony room being on the ground floor and I do know that when booking through the website it always states ground floor. We did tell them to cancel our rooms and we went some where else. We did check and they did not charge us but it was very disappointing to have to change our plans. We saved up for this trip and the cost of these rooms was a lot more then we usually pay for rooms.

Our conformation number was 61011871

My husband and I stayed two nights here for my Birthday. The check-in was very quick and simple, the two staff that we worked with were very friendly and helpful (I asked for shower caps and was given two right at the desk), and the kitchen staff were also so kind and went out of there way to make sure if we needed anything with our breakfast.

The precautions put into place for Covid-19 were easy to understand and didn't disrupt our visit at all. While it would have been great to have a spread of breakfast options like usual, we take what we can get in this odd time and make the best of it, which I agree the hotel has done for its guests. The breakfast food we ordered was mediocre, but "free".

We chose a lake side room so we had beautiful views of Lake Superior. When we woke up, it was just a few steps away to the Lake Superior Board Walk (which was under construction but still usable), and a matter of a few more feet to get to the actual Aerial Lift Bridge/Piers. It was so wonderful to have that luxury!

Parking is free in the lot. Quiet stay, no loud noises due to construction outside the window. The room was alright, nothing fancy and could use some updating and the fridge froze some of my veggies that we stored. Also, the in-room coffee maker is super outdated and the coffee was terrible. But, as I said, we made the best of it and were grateful for the accommodations.

We would stay again but it would be nice to see an updated room (shower, coffee maker, fridges).

We booked this hotel as our landing point while visiting Duluth and the surrounding areas. We’d never visited Duluth and picked this hotel purely by pictures and previous reviews. I’m so glad we did. We paid extra for a lake view with a balcony and it was worth every cent. It’s the second closest hotel to the bridge, being close enough to run over and catch a freighter come through, but far enough away to not hear the annoying sound of tires crossing the metal grates of the bridge. We even watched several arrive and depart the tip of the canal from
our balcony.
Its conveniently located near the shopping and restaurants of Duluth. We were there during covid times so the breakfast was modified and easy enough to preorder from a menu sheet the day before. There was also construction going on as they’re building a new sea wall, and admittedly that disappointed me upon arrival, but the noise was minimal with the balcony door closed. The hotel was clean, tastefully decorated and the staff was more than accommodating to a couple of my requests. If we ever visit again, this hotel will be on the top of my list to book again.

Perfect location at the start of the lakewalk, which is an easy and serene walk along the shores of lake superior. This path makes for an easy walk to all the restaurants. We had a lakeview suite and enjoyed looking out at the lake from our room. Appreciated the preordered breakfast due to covid....just filled out a sheet with our order the day before and our breakfast was delivered exactly when we requested it. Friendly desk staff.

Second time staying at this hotel. Overall stay very good. However, the hotel could use updates in some rooms. Walls are not sound proof....could hear conversations.
I would look for a room on an upper level possibly with balcony...lakeside. Hotel is very convenient to the canal and nearby restaurants. Due to COVID restrictions, daily housekeeping was limited but handled very well with exchange of towels, etc.
Breakfast served for pick up at requested time by filling out order form. Hotel has done a good job with serving guests.

All employees were NOT wearing face masks. No shield up at check in desk. Rude reception staff Kim checked us in and was not friendly but in a hurry and didn’t have time for questions. Cleaning staff friendly but management needs to keep their staff and guests safe!

Thank you for sharing your feedback with us. Let me apologize on behalf of my entire staff for failing to exceed your expectations. Duluth now has a mask mandate and our Front desk now has Plexiglas barriers in place for the protection of guests and staff. We appreciate your comments and will use them to improve the quality of service we provide. We hope you give us a second chance to wow you.

We recently stayed two nights, and had a wonderful experience. Everyone was so polite and friendly from the time we booked the stay to the time we checked out. Front desk, ladies who serve the breakfast and even the guy who vacuums the halls are all super friendly and say hi and ask how your day is going. Our room was ready when we checked in and it was very clean. The property seemed adequately staffed as nothing was lacking, not something I can say about their neighboring property where we heard nothing but excuses. We had a balcony, book early if you want one. The beds are comfortable and the shower has great water pressure. We will definitely stay there again! Thank you!
