The Hemsworths: Undoubtedly one of the most beloved families to ever have been placed on Australian soil.

You may know Chris Hemsworth from Marvel's Thor, or youngest brother Liam Hemsworth from The Hunger Games trilogy. But did you know they share an older brother who is also an actor?

They weren't always one big happy family either, with the boys often getting up to no good when they were younger.

Read on to find everything you need to know about the Hemsworth family – including the sweet way eldest son Luke Hemsworth looked after his little brothers when he left school.

November 6, 2023: There's no doubt that brothers Chris, Liam and Luke Hemsworth are close.

And that fact was proven once again overnight, when Thor star Chris, 40, shared a tribute to Luke on Instagram to mark his 43rd birthday.

In his post, Chris said that growing up, Westworld star Luke was the "best big bro anyone could ask for."

"Happy birthday to the best big bro anyone could ask for!", Chris' birthday message to Luke began.

"I remember when I first started high school and not having to deal with the usual intimidating transition due to being Hemzy's little brother," he continued, writing his message alongside a series of snaps.

"What a blessing to have the big man watching over and being given a clear path through the jungle of unruly teenagers! Love you."

Luke, pictured here in a snap shared by Chris in his birthday tribute, is the oldest of the Hemsworth siblings. Liam, now 33, is the youngest.

Luke previously spoke about "supporting" his brothers and said he doesn't "compete" with them when it comes to their respective acting careers.

"I don't compete with them for anything in acting," he previously told Men's Health.

"They might compete together because they're both 6ft4 and knock down gorgeous. But it's fun to be supportive."

He added: "In everyday life, we're normal brothers. We definitely try to one-up each other. We like to have fun. We like to laugh."

Where it all began.

The three Hemsworth brothers were all born in Melbourne, Victoria, to their parents, Leonie and Craig.

Leonie is an English teacher, and Craig worked in child protection services.

Here's a sweet photo Liam shared of Craig and Leonie on their wedding day in 1983.

The Hemsworths relocated to the Northern Territory when Liam, the youngest of the siblings, was just a few years old.

It was there Leonie and Craig worked on a cattle farm.

"It was four-and-a-half hours from the nearest town," Chris told the Telegraph.

"My parents ran the community centre which doubled as a post office and grocery store. It was in the middle of nowhere. There were crocodiles and buffalo. I went to a school that was made up of 60 kids between the ages of five and 17, all mashed into two classrooms."

It wasn't always fun and games for the Hemsworth brothers. Luke and Chris used to torment their younger brother Luke with a BB gun.

"We made Liam put a motorbike helmet on and a couple of jumpers and some gloves and we said 'run' and we had to hunt him around the house," Chris told the Herald Sun.

"He didn't love that game as much as we did."

The family later moved to Phillip Island, Victoria.

It was mostly Chris and Liam who spent their childhood getting into wild brawls between each other.

When he was just eight years old, Liam threw a knife at Chris' head. Luckily the handle only struck him and not the blade.

Their fighting got so bad the brothers had to stay in separate relatives' houses when their parents were away on a holiday.

Luke Hemsworth is the eldest brother of the family and is also an actor!

While he's best known for his role in Westworld, Luke appeared on 10 episodes of Neighbours in 2001, and Chris and Liam made brief appearances on the show a few years later.

Luke and Liam acted alongside each other in the show The Elephant Princess, while Chris had a three-year stint on Home and Away.

Luke married to Samantha and they share four kids together: Daughters Holly, Ella, Harper Rose and son Alexandre.

Chris Hemsworth, known for his role as Thor in the Marvel franchise, is the middle child of the three siblings.

He decided he wanted to become an actor in order to support his family financially.

"We grew up with very little money and that kind of frustrated me as a kid listening to my parents talk about bills every week and sort of seeing the sort of weight that put on them.

"I thought, 'That's it. I'm gonna make money and pay off their house,'" Chris told W Magazine in 2017.

He's married to the Spanish actress Elsa Pataky, and they share three children: daughter India and sons Sasha and Tristan.

Liam Hemsworth, the youngest brother, actually had his mum teach him for a while in high school – on a bit of a touchy subject.

"No child should have to be taught sex education by their mum," Liam told Jay Leno in 2013. "It's exactly what you think it's like – really uncomfortable.

"It was interesting until she starts talking about her own experiences. That's when I just headed out the door. 'I'll see ya later, Mum'."

"I think out of embarrassment she passed me, but I honestly got so uncomfortable I wouldn't turn up to most of her classes," he added.

At the time, it looked like Liam was going to snatch up the gig, getting a number of callbacks while Chris heard nothing.

Chris tried again for another audition and obviously got the part.

While Chris Hemsworth has three children with wife, Elsa Pataky, and Luke has four young daughters, there's certainly never a dull moment at family celebrations.

"Chris' kids are loud and we, the boys, are loud as well. Once we get going, it's a raging party with things being broken, kids kicking things. It's good times," Luke told Hola! in 2016.
