There are so many good French restaurants in Manhattan and I usually go to the same places all the time. But I decided, one night, to go to Le Parisien…
First and foremost, the hostess, who also took our order, was unsmiling, unhelpful – just...a bad attitude. Not the best ambassador, in other words. It seemed pretty slow that night, so we couldn’t chalk this up to her being overly busy (not that being busy is an excuse for being rude.) When we asked for the wine menu, she acted like she was performing one of the labors of Hercules. She also said something dismissive when we asked her about one of the dishes, etc., etc. She pretty much ruined the experience single-handedly but I’ll add other details just to round out the review.
The place was tiny and the people on either side of us struck up conversations with us. (My friend thought this was awkward but I am from Manhattan so I am used to talking to strangers and found it amusing.) But the person on this thread who said you could have an “elbow fight” with those dining next to you was not kidding – you are reallyclosetoyourfellowdiners. Food-wise: They don’t bring bread, olives or anything to the table and the portions are on the small size. The food was decent but I prefer the food at other French places we usually go to (ie, Jubilee, Les Halles, etc.)
But it was the rude treatment that doomed the experience from the beginning and I feel badly for the woman who posted about her friend’s 22nd birthday celebration here.
It’s nice to try new things but I won’t be going back to Le Parisien.More
