PBS NewsHour Names Laura Barrón-López White House Correspondent

Arlington, VA (June 2, 2022)—PBS NewsHour senior executive producer Sara Just today named Laura Barrón-López the program’s new White House Correspondent where she will cover the Biden administration for the nightly news broadcast. She will remain a CNN political analyst, a position she’s held since 2019. Barrón-López’s start date will be June 13th.

“We have admired Laura’s work at POLITICO, CNN, and elsewhere, and are delighted to have her join the NewsHour team now on the critically important White House beat,” said Just. “Laura’s passion for in depth reporting, contextual and nuanced storytelling will be an excellent fit at PBS NewsHour.”

Barrón-López added, “I’m thrilled to be joining the team at PBS Newshour. Newshour has a decades-long reputation as a destination for level-headed news and deep analysis. Viewers trust it for that, and that trust has never been more important than right now as domestic extremism and threats to democracy increase. I look forward to adding to Newshour’s legacy of informing its viewers, holding the powerful to account, and lifting up a well-informed democracy.”

Previously, Laura Barrón-López was a White House reporter for POLITICO. In her time covering the Biden administration, she’s focused on the power dynamics between the White House and Capitol Hill, covering the president’s agenda on gun violence, immigration, voting rights, infrastructure and more. Barrón-López previously covered the 2020 presidential election for POLITICO as a national political reporter, focusing on voter demographics, and policy shifts within the Democratic Party, including on cannabis and police reform.

Barrón-López previously led 2018 coverage of the Democratic Party for the Washington Examiner. Before that, Barrón-López covered Congress for HuffPost, focusing on climate change, criminal justice reform, and coal miner pensions, among other policy debates in the Senate and House.

Early in her career, she covered energy and environment policy for The Hill. Her work has been published in The Oregonian, OC Register, E&E Publishing, and Roll Call.
