Batman and Star Trek shared many actors, showcasing the crossover appeal of 1960s television. Frank Gorshin's performance as Bele in a Star Trek episode brought depth to the social commentary. Gorshin's versatile acting career spanned various iconic TV shows and films of the era.
Actor and comedian Frank Gorshin may be most recognizable for playing the Riddler in the 1960s Batman series, but he also guest starred in an iconic episode of Star Trek: The Original Series. Batman and Star Trek: The Original Series both began in 1966 and likely appealed to many of the same fans. With its campy and comedic tone, the Batman series of the 1960s depicted a very different version of the character than most modern adaptations of his stories. Nevertheless, Adam West's version of Batman became iconic in his own right, as he fought crime alongside his trusty sidekick Robin (Burt Ward).

Hollywood has a long history of casting and awarding able-bodied actors to portray characters with disabilities. In the Oscars’ best actor category alone, there is Daniel Day-Lewis for My Left Foot, Eddie Redmayne in The Theory of Everything, Colin Firth for The King’s Speech and Jamie Foxx for Ray. In the history of the Academy Awards, only three disabled actors have been awarded a best performance trophy for portraying a character who has their disability.
Director Aaron Schimberg notes that onscreen portrayals of people with disfigurements, as seen in his latest film A Different Man, are still largely played by able-bodied people in prosthetics. “On the other hand,” he continues, “When I’ve cast actors with disfigurements, people have called that exploitative, which seems to run counter to this whole discussion about representation that we’re having.” For his newest film, he wanted to interrogate the complexities of that sometimes counterproductive conversation.

Multiple interpretations of the Joker exist side-by-side and are all considered valid in the DC Comics universe, according to DC Studios co-ceo James Gunn. Canon should not be the sole focus when evaluating the greatness of a story, as some of the best DC stories are not considered canon. Fans of the Joker can expect to see three different versions of the iconic villain on-screen in the coming years, including Joaquin Phoenix's portrayal in the upcoming sequel to Joker and Barry Keoghan's anticipated debut in Matt Reeves' The Batman sequel.
The Joker has been reimagined more than any other villain in the history of DC Comics. Since making his debut in 1940, the clown prince of Gotham City has been depicted as everything from a happy-go-lucky jester to a hideously disfigured mass-murderer, and he has even been transformed into completely other forms such as lizards. However, all of these forms,...

Key Takeaways: There is a market for Hunger Games prequels, as proven by the success of "Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes." Jeffrey Wright has delivered exceptional performances in various projects, making him a standout actor in the series. There are several up-and-coming young actors who could take on the role of a young Beetee and potentially carry on Wright's legacy.
Beetee, played by Jeffrey Wright, was a victor introduced in The Hunger Games, but if a prequel about his games came to be, there would be plenty of actors who could take on playing a young Beetee. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire was one of the most popular movies of the series, and part of that is thanks to the historical lore that was opened up by incorporating past winners. This made the fantasy world feel more grounded and led to questions about what past iterations of the games might have looked like.

Isabela Merced, who can be seen in this weekend’s release Madame Web and also has a role in the currently-filming second season of The Last of Us, is one of the star’s up director Fede Alvarez’s upcoming contribution to the Alien franchise, the feature film Alien: Romulus, which is on track for an August 16, 2024 theatrical release. Merced is doing the press rounds to promote Madame Web, and during a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter she teased that Alien: Romulus features a scene that’s so disgusting, a lot of viewers will have to look away from the screen. Given that this is an Alien movie from the filmmaker who previously brought us movies like Evil Dead 2013 and Don’t Breathe, the idea of it featuring such a scene definitely makes sense to me.
Alvarez directed the new Alien film from a screenplay he wrote with his frequent collaborator Rodo Sayagues.

Actor Milo Ventimiglia missed out on playing the Dark Knight in Matt Reeves' The Batman, but he says it's "okay" that the potential casting didn't work out.
In 2019, Milo Ventimiglia shared how he had auditioned for Bruce Wayne in The Batman, only to be told by the studio that he was "too old." The role would ultimately go to Robert Pattinson, but that doesn't mean Ventimiglia can't get another chance to play the character. Currently, a Brave and the Bold film is in the early works at DC Studios, and that will mean casting a new actor to play Batman for the Dcu. Speaking about the possibility with ComicBook.com, Ventimiglia has already taken himself out of the running, convinced that if he were to try this time around, he'd be told that he's not old enough.

HBO is returning to Westeros!
The network that made history with Game of Thrones and experienced comparatively moderate success with the spinoff House of the Dragon is now developing a third series based in the medieval fantasy world of author George R.R. Martin.
The Hollywood Reporter revealed this week that HBO has greenlit a project with the reported working title of Aegon's Conquest.
The story of the first Aegon Targaryen will be familiar to diehard GoT fans.
(Although those who watched the first two series more casually can be forgiven if that name no longer rings a bell. There's an awful lot of lore in this franchise!)
Basically, Aegon I is the guy who began the process of uniting the Seven Kingdoms when he made a dragon-back flight from Old Valyria with his sister-wives Rhaenys and Viseyna.

HBO is betting on a new Game of Thrones spinoff called Aegon's Conquest, centered around Aegon Targaryen's quest to unite Westeros. The series aims to capture the essence of fantasy storytelling and reignite the magic that attracted fans to the original show. Despite uncertainties in the development process, HBO's past successes suggest that Aegon's Conquest could be the next crown jewel in its programming lineup.
HBO is placing a strategic wager on a new Game of Thrones spinoff penned by Mattson Tomlin, known for his work on The Batman and its forthcoming sequel. The new series, titled Game of Thrones: Aegon's Conquest, will once again try to conquer the audience with a fresh chapter in the saga.
According to ComicBook.com, "Aegon's Conquest" promises to transport viewers back to the turbulent times preceding the events of the original series and "House of the Dragon," focusing on Aegon Targaryen's ambitious campaign to forge a unified Westeros.

With House of the Dragon's success, it's no surprise that HBO is looking to expand its Westeros content. With a sprawling history and a variety of locations to choose from, many ideas have been explored in the past and will likely continue to be. However, nothing has become more essential to that world than the Targaryens and their dragons. With that to consider, HBO is planning a new Game of Thrones prequel. The Hollywood Reporter released a report announcing that writer Mattson Tomlin, who contributed to The Batman and is co-writing The Batman Part II, will be the writer behind an Aegon's Conquest television series. The studio had been eyeing the Targaryen conquest of Westeros for a while, but we finally have a more solid confirmation of the series to come. Not much more information exists at this time on the series, but fans can already guess the story.

After the success of "Game of Thrones," HBO seems to be taking the same approach as AMC with "The Walking Dead" and doubling down on spinoffs of their flagship program. Season 1 of "House of the Dragon" was met with critical and audience acclaim, and the series premiere was watched by over 10 million on the first day, the biggest in HBO history. There's been talk of a film centered on Aegon Targaryen for quite some time, but news today seems to imply that HBO has decided to deliver a full-on series, rather than a singular film.
According to an exclusive from The Hollywood Reporter, HBO is developing a series called "Aegon's Conquest," and has tapped Mattson Tomlin to helm the series. Tomlin is one of the most sought-after writers currently working, having contributed uncredited work to Matt Reeves' "The Batman," co-writing the sequel "The Batman Part II," co-writing the adaptation of Keanu Reeves' "Brzrkr,...

HBO is delving even further into the Westeros history books: The network is eyeing a prequel to Game of Thrones focused on the reign of Aegon I Targaryen, with writer Mattson Tomlin (The Batman) slated to pen the series, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The proposed series — which is only in the very early stages of development at this time — would take place about a century before HBO’s current prequel House of the Dragon (which itself is set 200 years prior to Game of Thrones) and tell the tale of King Aegon I Targaryen, who was the very first to...

‘Game of Thrones’ Aegon’s Conquest Spinoff in the Works From ‘The Batman Part II’ Writer (Exclusive)
HBO is developing another Game of Thrones spinoff series.
The company is actively heating up its long-in-discussion Aegon’s Conquest idea.
HBO is partnering with Mattson Tomlin, an in-demand scribe who did uncredited work on Matt Reeve’s The Batman and is co-writing its upcoming sequel, The Batman Part II. He also wrote the Keanu Reeves action comic adaptation Brzrkr and an animated Terminator series which he is also showrunning for Netflix.
Aegon’s Conquest is basically a direct prequel to the hit House of the Dragon, telling the story of the Targaryen’s bloody and brutal conquest of Westeros. The story follows the invader Aegon Targaryen, who conquered the continent of Westeros with his sister wives, Rhaenys and Visenya, and their dragons. Aegon successfully unified six of the Seven Kingdoms in just two years, with only Dorne able to successfully resist.
One source described the project as taking a...

It feels that the term “superhero movie” used to be a subgenre that could take on many forms. For example, Logan was a Western epic with super-powered characters at the core, but the tone was nothing like any of the other X-Men films of years past. Or the way Constantine gave us a dark horror-thriller with demons and monsters but kept the detective-slash-noir aesthetic and allowed it to bleed through. But, these days, it feels like nearly all of the caped cinema we’re getting fits into the same all-encompassing, mass-appealing mega-genre that has started to feel the same across every film- With the rare exception of movies like The Batman or Marvel’s recent Werewolf By Night, there’s been a frustrating lack of variety in the tones of modern comic book cinema. But back in 2011, Marvel was in the infancy of building out there now-dominating connected universe by...

They say politics is a bloodsport, but in Kate Winslet’s new HBO limited series The Regime, that might literally be true.
HBO has released the official trailer for the drama (formerly titled The Palace), set to debut March 3, with Winslet starring as the chancellor of an unnamed European country. She meets with an American envoy played by Martha Plimpton who offers her full support — but notes that the U.S. needs Winslet’s character “to demonstrate credibility to us… trustworthiness.” And no, the chancellor doesn’t seem to like that very much.

Best Costume Design is always a popular category at the Oscars since, unlike some other below-the-line categories, it’s more apparent to moviegoers at large which costumes are worthy of note and thus worthy of winning. This year’s category includes three previous Oscar winners and three first-time nominees, and though period pieces tend to do very well in this category, it’s two of the more unique films that mix contemporary, period and genre elements likely to get the most attention.
It might not be a coincidence that all five of this year’s nominations line-up with this year’s Best Production Design nominees. The two categories go hand-in-hand when it comes to crafting glorious-looking films.

Warning: Major spoilers for Mr. & Mrs. Smith season 1 below!
Paul Dano's role in Mr. & Mrs. Smith uses his past villainous roles to make him the biggest suspect, but he's not a villain at all. The real villains are the friendly "High-Risk" Smiths, played by Wagner Moura and Parker Posey, who try to kill John and Jane in the finale. The misdirection with Paul Dano's character is refreshing and shows how the showrunners toyed with traditional genre expectations.

Though it’s based on a 2005 movie of the same name, Prime Video’s Mr. and Mrs. Smith is something that’s increasingly rare these days: an honest-to-goodness TV show. The Donald Glover and Francesca Sloane-created spy thriller understands the required rhythms of its medium very well. Each episode presents a self-contained chapter within the dangerous marriage of John (Glover) and Jane Smith (Maya Erskine) while also subtly forwarding their overall story.
The commitment to the usual TV format also means that Mr. and Mrs. Smith gets to introduce one hell of a roster of guest stars. Save for its finale, every episode of this show features at least one stupendously talented and famous guest star. If you’re wondering who each of these guest stars are or where you’ve previously seen them: don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. What follows is a list of the Mr. and Mrs. Smith cast,...

Aldis Hodge is hopeful to continue his role as Hawkman in James Gunn's DC Universe and would like to finish out the plans for the character's story. There are multiple possibilities for Hodge's return, including reprising his role as Hawkman or playing a new character in the franchise. The rumored villain for The Batman - Part II - Clayface - could pose a problem for the movie's realism and tone. Toning down Clayface's more fantastical elements from DC Comics may be more challenging than it was for The Riddler in the first film. The script for The Batman - Part II is still in progress, and more information is expected to be revealed in the future.

Take a look at actor Colin Farrell, unrecognizable as the star of “The Penguin” live-action TV series, currently shooting, created by Lauren LeFranc and directed by Craig Zobel, based on DC Comics’ characters, streaming Fall 2024 on Max:
“…taking place one week following the events of ‘The Batman’ movie (2022)…
‘…the new series explores the rise to power of ‘Oswald Cobblepot’ / ‘Penguin’ in the ‘Gotham City' criminal underworld…”
‘…who became a disfigured crime lord and the former chief lieutenant of crime boss 'Carmine Falcone' …
‘…who is on the rise to becoming a criminal kingpin in his own right..."
Created by Bob Kane and Bill Finger, 'Penguin' debuted in "Detective Comics" #58 (December 1941).

A new batch of set photos from the New York City production of Max’s upcoming The Penguin series has arrived online, featuring Oscar nominee Colin Farrell.
Shared on X, the images show Farrell’s titular villain in the middle of chaos, which seems to be the aftermath of a massive explosion. Farrell can be seen wearing his character’s signature fur-lined coat from the comics. Last June 2023, The Penguin had a filming setback after it was temporarily delayed due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Despite this, HBO boss Casey Bloys assured fans that the highly-anticipated series is still set for a 2024 debut on Max, as production finally resumed the week after Thanksgiving.

Mr. & Mrs. Smith definitely didn’t surpass expectations, it mostly left us with question marks for expressions because of how lackluster the show really was. I suppose you could say there are some good parts; you’ve got beautiful sets and some fun fashion choices, but most importantly, a bunch of cameos that are meant to enhance the show considering how dull it is otherwise. Not to say that Donald Glover and Maya Erskine are incapable of holding our attention, but it’s probably a mix of the writing and the pacing of this show that had me completely bored by the end of it. And, no, even these incredible special appearances did not pique my interest in any way. However, they do add a little bit of fun, even if briefly, to the mostly tedious show. Mr. & Mrs. Smith follows spies in this new spyverse, where there is...

The movie is inspired by the real-world case of Reddit users taking advantage of GameStop's fluctuating stock market value during the Covid-19 pandemic to make a profit. Dano portrayed Keith Gill, the financial analyst and investor who took notice of the shifting value, while Rogen took on the role of Melvin Capital Management founder Gabe Plotkin.

The original concept art for Penguin in "The Batman" shows a more traditional gangster look for the character. The decision to use prosthetics and makeup to transform Colin Farrell into Penguin has largely been considered a stroke of creative genius. The transformation allows Farrell to disappear into the role and stand out as a unique and underestimated Gotham rogue seeking more power from the city's underworld.
The Batman's original concept art for Collin Farrell's Penguin reveals what the Gotham City villain would have looked like without prosthetics. Introduced as the right-hand man to mob boss Carmine Falcone (John Turturro), Oswald "Oz" Cobblepot clashed with Robert Pattinsion's Batman, their rivalry notably including an impressive car chase with the newest version of the Batmobile. However, this early concept art suggests The Penguin might not have been as iconic as he became in the film itself.

Gunn recently replied to a fan on the social media platform Threads (via X) asking about why the Dark Knight couldn't appear in Legacy. The DC Studios head explained that Batman's absence was solely "because he's not in the script."
