Ohio State student killed in apparent murder-suicide at north Columbus apartment complex

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX/WTTE)-Columbus Police said a man killed a woman and then himself at a north Columbus apartment complex. The two young people were discovered early Sunday morning.

The apparent murder-suicide happened at the Taylor House complex near the intersection of Bethel and Olentangy River Roads.

Police said a woman was concerned about her friend, the female victim. They said she came to check on her friend and discovered the two dead inside a first floor unit. She then notified police around 2:30 a.m.

When police arrived they found 22-year-old Heather Campbell and 25-year-old Kyle Lafferty suffering from gunshot wounds.

Both victims were pronounced dead just after 3:15 a.m.

The evidence indicated that Lafferty may have been Campbell's boyfriend and that he shot her and then shot himself, according to a police report.

This marks the 94th homicide in Columbus this year.

The Ohio State University released a statement, " We are heartbroken to learn about this tragedy. Heather Campbell was a psychology major from Strongsville. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends during this incredibly difficult time. Counseling is available for those students in our community who need support by calling 614-292-5766.
