Linn Castle in Krefeld, Germany, is a fantastic place to visit for history buffs, nature lovers, and anyone looking for a great view. The castle, which dates back to the 13th century, is not very large, but there is still plenty to explore.

The castle is situated on a hill, giving it a commanding presence in the small, rural neighborhood of Linn. The grounds are well maintained, and visitors can take in the old-world charm of the castle. Inside, there are a few interesting artifacts and displays, as well as a winding staircase that leads up to the castle's tower.

The view from the tower is spectacular. Visitors can take in the countryside, the surrounding moats, and the nearby town of Krefeld. The tower also provides a great vantage point to watch the sunset, making it a great spot to end the day.

Overall, a visit to Linn Castle is an enjoyable experience. It's a great spot for anyone looking for an interesting day trip or a peaceful place to relax.

Better zoo than we expected. Some original ideas like having an ants colony and a room with butterflies flying around right by you.

Amazing to think these houses were built 100 years ago and yet feel so contemporary. They must have been truly futuristic and radical for their time. Sympathetically restored and helpful staff. There is not much literature in English so do your research before you go

    Einmal am Rhein ...

Of course I did a little research before putting pen to paper ( or fingers to keyboard ) and discovered some salient points. Works started on the Rheinbrücke Krefeld-Uerdingen ( also formally called Adolf-Hitler-Brücke, what else? ) in 1933 and was finished 3 years later.

It spans the mighty River Rhein at Uerdingen which was originally a totally separate city to the East of Krefeld and was in the 13th Century more important than the world famous Silk City itslelf. Research away bridge-freaks!

I went to visit there a few weeks back, on a lazy Sunday with a friend, not because we are avid civil engineering fans, we were merely at a loose end…and it was a sunny day.

Well, it was all very nice, we strolled along the riverbank, there was a brass band rehearsing, all very colourful. Check out the photos!

I don’t think it’s what you would call a tourist attraction, as such, and neither would I take picnic.

BUT it’s free! and nice and relaxing on a sunny day.

This little park is perfect for a romantic walk. It’s well maintained and gives some great views and nice seats to rest. There is also an awesome Greek Restaurant which offers fantastic food and especially during summer a wonderful terrace to sit.

High Quality Opera in a little town... we have been going there with big doubts after being in so many big opera houses around the world... but it was outstanding and the guiding program before and afterwards was nothing you would expect from such a small city - Hope they can keep this level for long !

This was my first time to attend a rock concert at the Königspalast in Krefeld - the home of the ice hockey club - the Krefeld Penguins. But I was here to see the grandfather of shock rock & roll - Alice Cooper.

Finding this establishment was pretty easy but finding a car parking space was a different story. All the official car parks were either designated for VIPs or full or both. We drove around and around until we found a space in a residential side road some way from the venue. We then trapsed through the pouring rain and finally joined a ridiculously long queue to get in. By the time we got to the door we were nicely wet through. Security, by the way, was non existent... My recommendation would be to up their game in this whole area.

Anyway, once in, we found out where our seats were located and decided to have a quiet drink rather than suffer the support group. There seemed to be plenty of bars, without crowds, which was great. Oh, and the toilets were also acceptable.

Our seats in the arena were located on the side and towards the back but we had the best part of a row to ourselves so we could spread out a bit which was good. The acoustics weren't brilliant but OK.

At the end of the concert it was pretty easy to vacate the premises and make the way back to our parked car.

The Stadtwald ("City Garden") in Krefeld is a must to see. It reflects the former wealth of this city and is surprisingly large in size. It comes with beautiful ways through the woods, but also with a lake and huge lawn area to play on. Best of all is a beer garden with space for more than 1000 people where you could chose from self-service or waiter-service.

This little museum was built to show the development and the manufacturing of the Krefeld famous Dujardin, a very smooth and nice brandy, and a juniper liquor. The entrance fee is with 48 Euro for 8 persons quite high, but at the end you get a brandy and a double juniper liquor.
All is bedded in a very old building, from the initial days, and the surrounding is really nice. The river Rhine is just 2 minutes away.

Evidence of human habitation were found on Hülser Berg around 1979 by Detlef Stender. Evidence shows that there were Mesolithic sites from the end of the last ice age (approx. 8000 BC) to the beginning of the Neolithic (approx. 5500 BC). Various flintstone artefacts were found. There is a bar / restaurant here a children's play area and lovely woodland and paths for walking in. Then of course the reason for my visit which is the Aussichtsturm - 'Observation Tower' constructed on the natural elevation of the Hülser Berg. It was fun to climb the metal open-construction tower and then take in the view from the observation deck. The tower does wobble a little and you can see through the metal grate floor panels and stairs to the ground, so maybe not the best for those that do not like heights, but I am not keen on heights and I found it manageable. It was a lovely sunny Sunday when I visited so the views were clear, but not a great deal to see other than treetops and countryside and a few wind turbines and industry chimneys in the distance. There is a telescope at the top. There is a free car park at the Hülser Berg and the walk to the observation tower is easy and short. A popular place that is worth a visit for fresh air and recreation.
