I would have given this trail a four-star review if the trail conditions weren’t so poor in some areas. The views you get across the bridge at the beginning of the trail are just beautiful. I know some people didn’t feel it was worth seeing the paint pots, but it was kind of neat to see the contrasting colors of the paint pots & the surrounding soil compared to the surrounding forests and mountains. So if you don’t mind dealing with poor trail conditions in some areas… Meaning, broken/missing boards and skinny logs to balance on if you don’t want to get your feet totally soaked then I would take the time to do it since it is so short. If you don’t want to get your feet wet, using hiking poles will help you navigate those portions of the trail. Bugs were not an issue.
The trail starts off nicely but turns muddy with a haphazard arrangement of boards and logs. The paint pots are interesting but no information is provided. A few old pieces of equipment are rusting by the trail with no explanation of their significance. Overall if you want to trim down your schedule in the area this is the hike to drop!
