Offering exhilarating eye candy, solid acting, and a fast-paced story, Kong: Skull Island earns its spot in the movie monster's mythos without ever matching up to the classic original.

Kristen Lopez Culturess There's life in the old ape yet, but he sinks like the Titanic. Nov 20, 2017 Full Review K. Austin Collins The Ringer Kong: Skull Island isn't a B-movie - but with its intentionally bad writing and jarring lack of cohesion, it lamely pretends to be one. Aug 10, 2017 Full Review Angie Han Mashable The humans, meanwhile, are largely left to stare in awe. Jun 5, 2017 Full Review Cory Woodroof For the Win (USA Today) The monster action was actually pretty thrilling, but the film doesn’t do some of its main characters a lot of favors with the script. Rated: 2.5/4 Mar 15, 2024 Full Review Rebecca Johnson Film Focus Online The action is frequent and engaging, the CGI looks fantastic, the story-line is captivating, and the movie is paced well and rounded off with an epic final battle. Andy B I didn’t realise that this was an attempt to reboot Kong - I’d assumed that it was a sequel to the overlong Peter Jackson film. As a result, I’d avoided it. I shouldn’t have. This film has some excellent actors, superb special effects, a plot that romps along and a big ape. What more do you need? Tom Hiddlestone shows why he could have been considered for Loki, Brie Larsen plays a photo journalist and Samuel Jackson plays …. Samuel Jackson. Jackson’s character is really the main mover for the third act of the film as he loses control and delivers a believably psychotic performance. There is a lot wasted here, and there are some tonal issues. They’re meant to be from the early seventies, but they look more modern, Jackson’s line of “bitch, please!” doesn’t help. But these are minor niggles. At 2 hours, it comes in at about 3 1/2 weeks shorter than Jacksons overblown version. Definitely worth a watch Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 05/15/24 Full Review cesar f Excelente pelicula, tiene buena accion de principio a fin. No me gusto que la actuacion de Samuel Jackson, como es posible que 1 solo hombre por poco elimine a Kong. Es absurdo Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/13/24 Full Review Carter C My favorite thing about this movie is the acting. Probably some of the best I’ve seen in one movie. Kong’s screen time is the thing that irritates me a bit, but the visual effects and story easily make me forget about it. Awesome introduction to Skull Island after a ton of years! Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 05/09/24 Full Review Liam W In some ways this movie was able to build off of the mistakes from the original Godzilla, but also do its own, unique thing. Kong definitely had a good chunk of stuff to do, and I liked how he was more humanized then Godzilla. Oftentimes, moments with Tom Hiddleston and Brie Larson with Kong, I found bitter sweet, and I enjoyed how they were able to find the humanity in Kong. The film also reminded me a lot about Jurassic Park with John Goodman's character being like John Hammond's character, and the fact that each person in the group gets picked off one by one. Maybe a little cliche, but I often enjoyed the sequences of the movie. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 05/02/24 Full Review Jasper M A very basic and predictable storyline but good action scenes! Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 04/29/24 Full Review Eric M A fresh start for King Kong that would be greater as a tv show but retains some magic although Tom Hiddleston could have more scenes.
