Liverpool issued 'red flag' warning after Ibrahima Konate 'grade-two' injury

Liverpool issued ‘red flag’ warning as Ibrahima Konate suffers ‘grade-two’ injury – expert

Liverpool could be without Ibrahima Konate for two or three weeks after the French centre-back suffered a hamstring injury last week.

That is the view of medical expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in injury and data analysis, speaking exclusively to Football Insider.

Konate suffered a hamstring injury following Liverpool’s 2-1 defeat to Brighton in the FA Cup last week, leaving Jurgen Klopp extremely short of options in defence.

Virgil van Dijk has missed the past five games with a hamstring injury, while Nat Phillips has also been absent through illness.

Konate has also suffered a hamstring injury and is now considered a doubt for Liverpool’s upcoming Champions League clash against Real Madrid on 21 February.

Dinnery insists Konate’s injury is not as severe as Van Dijk’s, but also warned Liverpool that they have to be “wary” when reintroducing him to the squad.

It’s another red flag for the Liverpool medical team and another injury with a very high rate of recurrence,” Dinnery told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.

In Konate’s case, his setback is not too severe – he’s probably looking at a grade-two injury.

It’ll keep him on the sidelines for two to potentially three weeks though.

Even when Konate does return, players need to be managed very, very carefully after suffering this type of injury.

Liverpool have to be wary, especially as it’s not Konate’s first hamstring problem of the season.
