YOUR RAIN JACKET RAIN THUNDERSTORMS SWEEPING THROUGH. NO SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING SO FAR THIS MORNING. AND THESE STORMS ARE BELOW SEVERE LIMITS. A VERY LOW POTENTIAL OF SEVERE WEATHER. BUT THE STORMS ARE GOING TO BE EFFICIENT. RAIN PRODUCERS, YOU LOOK AT OUR LEGEND HERE. THE REDS UNDER THE PURPLE. THAT’S HEAVIER RAIN. YOU SEE A LOT OF RED HERE SWEEPING ACROSS INTERSTATE 35 FROM NORTHERN MISSOURI INTO EASTERN KANSAS. NOW COMING INTO NORTHWEST SIDES OF KANSAS CITY. KECHI PARKVILLE, BETHEL, KCK MUNCIE, SHAWNEE. AND THAT THAT IS SOME HEAVY RAIN OVER BONNER SPRINGS DOWN TO DE SOTO AND OVER K-10. SO THE IMPACT THIS MORNING WILL BE RAIN AND THUNDERSTORMS. UMMS. THERE IS SOME POTENTIAL OF LOCALIZED FLOODING, SOME STREET FLOODING BECAUSE OF THE HEAVY AMOUNTS OF RAIN IN SPOTS THIS AFTERNOON. STORMS MAY PRODUCE SOME SMALL HAIL AND STRONG WIND. AND AGAIN, A LOW SEVERE WEATHER POTENTIAL. NOW I WANT TO STEP OFF SO YOU GET A LOOK AT THIS. SO THE CLOUDS AT THE TOP OF THE SCREEN THAT ARE KIND OF LIGHTER. THAT’S A BIT OF THAT SHELF CLOUD. SO THAT’S YOU KNOW RAIN COOLED AIR THAT’S KIND OF RUSHING OUT FROM THE THUNDERSTORM. THEN WARM MOIST AIR MOVING INTO IT. AND IT KIND OF CREATES THIS SHELF CLOUD APPEARANCE. IT LOOKS OMINOUS. BUT AGAIN IT’S NOT PRODUCING SEVERE WEATHER. BUT YOU’RE GOING TO GET A LOT OF LIGHTNING, HEAVY RAIN AND WIND. KATIE, DO YOU SEE THAT 53 MILE AN HOUR WIND GUSTS OUT OF THAT. SO THAT’S THAT’S CLOSE TO SEVERE LIMITS WITH THIS STORM COMING THROUGH AND NO SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING ON IT YET. BUT THAT IS A POSSIBILITY FROM THE WIND. 3:24 p.m. -- The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning for northeastern Cass County, eastern Jackson County, west central Lafayette County and southwestern Ray County until 6:15 p.m. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to start shortly because of heavy rains produced by strong thunderstorms. Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets, underpasses, and other poor drainage and low-lying areas are possible. The impacted locations include Independence, Lee's Summit, Blue Springs, Grain Valley, Pleasant Hill, Oak Grove, Greenwood, Buckner, Lake Lotawana, Lake Winnebago, Lone Jack, Orrick, Lake Tapawingo, Sibley, Baldwin Park, Levasy, Napoleon, Bates City, Camden, and Strasburg. Interstate 70 in Missouri between mile markers 18 and 31 is also included.FORECASTThursday is a First Alert Weather Impact Day for scattered downpours and thunderstorms this morning that will likely linger into the afternoon.
