Things got a little emotional on the Today show on Tuesday as the presenters watched the heartwarming moment a mother and son were finally reunited after two years apart.

Entertainment reporter Brooke Boney welled up over the viral video, and co-stars Karl Stefanovic and Allison Langdon were also moved by the reunion.

'Aww... he's squeezing her,' Brooke, 34, said as she burst into tears.

'That was really a heartfelt hug!' Karl added.

Allison said the moment was sweet, but made a rather odd comparison that she joked 'ruined' the moment.

'That's a proper hug, isn't it? That moment was like you've just seen someone trying to burgle someone,' she said.

This was in reference to the son's facial expression in the video, after his mother entered the restaurant when he wasn't expecting to see her.

'Like that look, "Who's that? What are you doing?" And then you realise, "Oh, it's mum!"' Allison added, making her co-hosts laugh.

Brooke then grabbed a tissue and carried on with her entertainment bulletin.

Allison had wept on the show hours earlier after watching another emotional reunion - this time between singer Adele and her former teacher.

Brooke introduced the segment - which aired during ITV's An Audience with Adele concert special - that saw actress Emma Thompson asking Adele about someone who had supported or inspired her growing up.

'I had a teacher at Chestnut Grove who taught me English, that was Miss McDonald,' Adele replied before it was revealed Miss McDonald was actually in the audience.

The scene cut to the crowd cheering as Miss McDonald left her seat and made her way to the stage to greet a very emotional Adele.

'So emotional,' Brooke said in a quavering voice after the clip aired.

Allison then began to shed tears before becoming overwhelmed with emotion.

'Ally, are you alright?' Karl asked as he passed Allison a box of tissues, which she used to wipe tears from her eyes.

'No, I don't think so, am I,' she responded.

'Emotional rollercoaster on the show,' he added.
