Mr. Tony B. Ingram, Sr.

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Tony Bernard Ingram Sr., a beloved father, brother, uncle, partner, and friend. Tony was born on May 20th, 1968, to Lewis Franklin Ingram Sr. (deceased) and Emma Lee Cole. He was a devoted son, always cherishing the memories of his parents.
Tony was a beacon of kindness and selflessness, always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. His compassionate nature touched the lives of many, leaving a mark on the hearts of all who knew him. Tony's unwavering dependability and generosity made him a pillar of his community.
He leaves behind his loving son, Tony Bernard Ingram Jr., who was his pride and joy. Tony was also a cherished son to his mother, Emma Cole Ingram and cherished brother to Lewis Franklin (Ola) Ingram Jr. and a beloved uncle to his nephews Justin and Lewis Ingram III, as well as his great-nephew Josiah Ingram and his aunts, Ruby Griffin, Ann Galloway, and Vicky Miller. He was a devoted partner to his fiancée, Angela Gordon, who stood by his side through thick and thin.
In his professional life, Tony was dedicated to his business T & S Trucking, where he exemplified integrity and diligence in all that he did. He was respected and admired by clients for his professionalism and reliability.
Tony's legacy of kindness, compassion, and selflessness will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered for his boundless love and generosity. Rest in peace, Tony.
A service in Tony’s memory will be held at 12:00 Noon, Thursday, April 11, 2024 in the chapel of Clark S. Brown & Sons Funeral Home. The family will greet friends at 11:00 AM.

Ms. Ernestine Dillard

It is with heavy hearts that we announce Ernestine Dillard (mother to James 'Tony' Dillard, Vanessa 'Van' Dillard, Cheryl 'Lynn' Dillard, Eric 'Buster' Dillard, Elizabeth 'Jenny' Burgess, Brian Dillard, Donna Dillard, Preston Dillard (deceased), and Iran Dillard) was called home to her final resting place on March 26, 2024 at the age of 88.
Along with her eight children, she is survived by her beloved brother Alvin Kinzer, as well as a large family of twenty-six grandchildren; many great great-great grandchildren; cousins, nieces, nephews; her long-time best friend Ernestine August, and many close friends.
Ernestine has joined her father, Frank Kinzer Sr. and mother, Lubertha Kinzer; son Preston Dillard; sisters Robbie Delapp, Doris Harris, Mildred Tuttle; and brother, Frank 'Buck' Kinzer in heaven.
Known for her sense of style and being a tough cookie, Ernestine will be dearly missed by all who knew her. The family asks that she be remembered for her strength, humor, and long life not the sadness of her passing.
A memorial will be held at Clark S. Brown & Sons Funeral Home, 727 N Patterson Ave, Winston-Salem, NC 27101, Saturday, March 30, 2024 at 3:30 PM.

Mrs. Ellen Williams Stewart departed this life on March 21, 2024, at Magnolia Creek Assisted Living & Memory Care Center in Winston-Salem, NC. Mrs. Stewart was born on July 14, 1919, in Lancaster, SC to the late Oscar and Lula Clyburn Williams.
Mrs. Stewart was a loving wife, sister, aunt, cousin, God-Mother, and friend to many who mourn her passing.
She was a faithful and lifelong member of Grace Presbyterian Church, where she served in many capacities over the years.
Ellen was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Edward “Toby” Stewart; four brothers and four sisters.
Left to cherish her memory a loving and devoted sister, Mrs. Emma W. Shouse; a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews; including Patricia P. Burton, her niece and guardian, as well as Carol Carter whom she reared as her own, along with her son, Rashard Booker.
Public viewing will be held on Thursday, March 28, 2024, from 12:00 Noon to 6:00 pm at Clark S. Brown & Sons Funeral Home. Graveside services to celebrate Mrs. Stewart’s life will be held at Piedmont Memorial Gardens Friday, March 29, 2024, at 1:00 pm.

Miss Antwonya Evelyn Cooper

Antwonya Evelyn Cooper was born on October 5, 1986 to Mrs. Wyomie Watson and Mr. Anthony Holoman. Antwonya departed this earthly side on Monday, March 18, 2024 at Forsyth Hospital ICU in the presence of family.
She was a graduate of Reynolds High School where she was a member of the Dancing Boots.
Antwonya was a fun-loving person who loved to laugh aloud. She loved her sons with all her heart and adored her family, especially her nieces and nephews. She enjoyed cooking and being in the company of her friends. She was a member of New Direction Movement Cathedral Church.
She was preceded in death b her maternal great-grandmother, Ms. Ruby Cooper; maternal grandmother, Ms. Gaynell Cooper; and her paternal grandmother, Ms. Willie Holoman.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her mother, Wyomie (Eric) Watson; her children, Jaidyn Cooper and Llord Byrom, Jr.; sisters, Brittany Holoman, Cortillia Holoman and Jamesha Barkley; one brother, James Barkley, III; grandpapa, Charles (Carolyn) Cooper, Sr.; two uncles, Charles (Willette) Cooper, Jr. and Timothy (Angie) Cooper, Sr.; her father, Anthony Holoman; one sister/cousin, Jasmine Glenn; three nieces, Briilyn, Kaycee, Ny’hla; three nephews, Kaidyn, Bryson and Amari; and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.

Mrs. Carolyn Marie Dick-Bowman

Carolyn Marie Dick-Bowman, was the first child born to the late Henry W. Dick, Sr. & Marie Fuller-Dick Clauson on June 11, 1942. She departed this life early Thursday morning, February 23, 2024 at Atrium Health - Wake Forest Baptist Hospital, ICU Department, Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
Carolyn was predeceased by her father, as a toddler; her mother in 2004; brother, Henry W . Dick, III; her maternal grandparents, Willie A. Fuller, Sr. and Elizabeth McLean-Fuller, who played a pivotal role in her rearing and life, and a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins.
At a very young age, Carolyn's mother and maternal grandparents mad sure she attended church. She joined Turners Chapel AME Church and served under the teachings of several pastors. Carolyn was very active in the church - past Lay President, Choir Member, Usher Board member, just to name a few, until her health no longer afforded her the privilege of attending in person. But she did not let her health become a stumbling block, instead, she would reach out and touch, via telephone!
On January 1, 1972, she was united in marriage to Nathaniel Thomas Bowman, a wonderful man who became very sensitive to her needs and wants. To this union a daughter was born, LaTanya Terrain Bowman. Their daughter's love and attachment also became a part of their lives. As a couple, they welcomed two grand dogs to their family, "Chace, (now deceased), and Chloe."
Recently the family was blessed to welcome and become grand godparents to Leandria Elise Herring, a distinction which they took very serious and dearly enjoyed. Over the years, Carolyn has always had a way with people, especially during her working years. One lady, especially, now deceased became her best friend and co-worker. The Ramsey's , Charles II "Chuck", Melanie, and Robin, all are now grown adults, refers to the Bowman's as Aunt Carolyn and Uncle Nate. She was a loving, compassionate soul.
Carolyn attended Florence Elementary School and was a graduate of William Penn High School in High Point, NC. She received Bachelor of Science from Winston Salem State College, 1964, then continued to later on complete her Master of Science in Elementary-Intermediate Education Degree, 1975, from NC A&T State University.
Carolyn continued her professional life, consisting of thirty plus years in Gretna, Virginia; Mount Gilead, North Carolina, and Guilford County (Ragsdale High) school systems. These were major accomplishments she both loved and learned from. Of all Carolyn's many achievements she would most want to be remembered as one who truly loved the Lord and tried to treat everybody right! She was gifted with the appreciation of kindness and goodness.
Those left to cherish her memory are: her loving husband of 52 years, Nathaniel Bowman; daughter, LaTanya Bowman; God granddaughter, Leandria Elise Herring; four sisters, Annie L. Dick-Truitt (George); Mary E. Clauson-Jones (Braddy); Lucille Clauson and Naomi Gibson – Jennings; two nephews, Henry Dick, III and Brad Jones; niece, Teresa Dick Taylor (Keith); great-nephew, Bennett David; great-niece, Hanya Harrell; a special aunt, Ida Fuller; two brothers-in-law, Walter Bowman and Bobby Lee Bowman; five sisters-in-law, Willie Mae Dick, Pauline Williams (Thurman), Almeta Bowman, Blanche Bowman, and Betty Bowman; a special Bowman niece, Vicki Gray; special adopted Ramsey Children, Charles "Chuck", Melanie and Robin; significant friends, Rev. Ella Jordan and Dianna Teasley; and a host of other relatives, friends, and neighbors.
Funeral service will be held at 11:30 AM on Monday, March 4, 2024 at Turners Chapel AME Church. The family visitation will begin at 11:00 AM. Interment will be in Parklawn Memorial Park. Mrs. Bowman may be publicly viewed today from 1 PM~6PM at Clark S. Brown & Sons Funeral Home.

Mr. Paul Lawrence Miller

On June 28, 1935, Paul Lawrence Miller was born in Hookerton, NC to the late William T. Wilks and Sudie L. Miller.
As a standout athlete in baseball, Paul graduated from Greene County High School in 1953. To further his education, he took business courses at Forsyth Technical Community College and received an associate's degree. In addition, he obtained licenses in taxation, fire casualty, and real estate/brokerage.
After a prosperous summer working on the family farm, Paul relocated to Winston-Salem, NC in 1954 to live with his favorite Uncle Seymour and his wife. At first, he began working at Uncle Seymour’s grocery store and around the house, helping where needed. Then he found gainful employment at Western Electric Company (currently known as AT&T) in the janitorial department until he volunteered for the United States Army.
Paul enlisted in the United States Army on October 15, 1958. He graduated from Basic Training at Ft. Jackson, SC, and finished Advanced Individual Training (AIT) at Ft. Dix, NJ. After completing basic training and AIT, he was stationed at Schofield Barracks in Hawaii as an 11B Infantryman. By the end of his tenure in the Army, Paul was promoted to Corporal, he was a Weapons Squad Leader, and he received an honorable discharge for his outstanding service on September 26, 1960.
After he departed from the military, Paul returned to Western Electric Company on October 1, 1960. While working there, he co-founded a tax services company with R. Lewis Ray and Clarence Watson known as Ray, Watson, and Miller Tax Services. After years of success, Paul started his own taxation business called Paul Miller Tax Services. In addition to his taxation business, Paul wanted to extend his entrepreneurial endeavors.
He grew an interest in fire and casualty, real estate, and property management, becoming one of the first black realtors in Winston-Salem, NC. Although committed to his business ventures, he still found time to serve his community.
As a result, he founded Paul Miller Realty, Inc. working as the sole owner and operator of the company. Although committed to his business ventures, he still found time to serve his community.
Paul was a pillar of his community. He was the Head Coach of the Cherry Hill Tigers Baseball Team, leading them to win a Little League Championship in the summer of 1962. He also mentored Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School kids ages 6-10. He became a master Mason of Bivouac Lodge #503 in 1980. In this Lodge, he served as a Junior Warden, Senior Warden, and the Worshipful Master. He also served as the District Deputy Grand Master in the Western Region of North Carolina, the Director of the Knights of Pythagoras for the entire state of North Carolina, the Past Patron of the Eastern Stars of Bivouac Chapter #530, and a member of the Shriners. He was also an active member at Hanes CME Church for over 50 years performing multiple duties such as teaching Sunday School, visiting the sick, and serving as a Trustee. Lastly, Paul was instrumental in getting computers, laptops, and other educational supplies for Bennett College in Greensboro, NC, between 1981-1984.
He leaves to cherish his memory two surviving children Veronica Y. Miller of Winston-Salem, NC, and Lawrence E. Miller of Elgin, SC, from his ex-wife (Esther Kimbrough Miller); two grandchildren Eric B. Miller (Jodelle) of Capitol Heights, MD and Derek G. Miller (Dashekia) of Winston -Salem, NC; three great-grandsons Malakai Miller, Marcel Miller, and Mansa Miller of Winston-Salem, NC; one brother Lindberg Miller of Goldsboro, NC and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Mr. Clarence W. Moore

Mr. Clarence Williams Moore was born on November 6, 1949 in Bennettsville, SC to Warren Moore and Annie Laura McCall. There he attended the local public schools.
For over 35 years, he was employed at K & W Cafeteria, holding various positions including line and grill worker, take out service, servicing and bussing tables and floor attendant. Beyond that, he also worked as a brick mason and held a multitude of jobs from Charlotte to Rockingham, NC.
He loved fishing, hunting, chilling, listening to music, and cooking. He never met a stranger. With his “get it done” attitude, nothing was too hard for him.
Clarence passed away on February 7, 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Robersina Wilson, Anne Wil-son; niece, Andrea Wilson; nephew, James Wilson. On the day after Clarence's death, his nephew, Timothy Wilson, un-expectedly passed away.
Survivors who remain to cherish his memory include: his wife, Velma Lucille Parker Moore; sisters, Daisy Green and Ida Shannon; aunt, Vera Chestnut; brother-in–law, Tommy (Barbara) Parker; beloved special friend and fishing buddy, Lloyd Cline; ride or die friend, Nate Hairston; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends.
Funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM on Saturday, February 10, 2024 in the chapel of Clark S. Brown & Sons Funeral Home. The family will greet friends thirty minutes prior to the service. There will be no public viewing of Mr. Moore.

Ms. Batina Tanner Hill

Batina Tanner Hill was born April 26, 1978 in Lewisville, North Carolina. Known to family and friends as “Tina”, she could fill a room with joy and laughter. She loved her mother with everything she had to give.
Tina attended West Forsyth Senior High. She furthered her studies at Forsyth Technical Community College, South Carolina State Uni-versity, Winston-Salem State University and was by vocation, a trained nurse. Tina was employed by Kedplasma Center and Oak Forest Rehabilitation until her health began to decline. She was a member of Black Nurses Rock.
She enjoyed the love of her life, Derrick Couthen, who were ride and die for each other no matter what. Tina also enjoyed and cher-ished the bond with her stepchildren and best friends, Felicia Beard, Nina Gore, Almaz Clark; cousins, the Patterson family, the Marshall family, and the Astrop family.
Her passion was watching Dr. Charles Stanley on TV, His daily messages contributed to her spiritual growth. Her favorite things to do included watching the Investigative Discovery Channel and Tubi… and she loved to eat.
She was a sister, aunt, cousin and friend to all. Tina enjoyed life in every way she could with Derrick, her closest confidant.
Her father, James Tanner and mother, Bernice Tanner preceded her in death. She passed away on February 2, 2024.
Tina leaves wonderful and forever memories with her loving partner, Derrick Couthen; stepchildren, Damari Todd, Damaya Couthen, Abria Reese; her brother, James "June" Tanner (Doris Jones); niece, Bea Tanner; close family, The Howells; and a host of otherrelatives and friends.
Although Tina may no longer be physically with us, her memories will forever and always last our lifetime!

Ms. Betty J. Carter was born to the late Ruby Lee Carter and Albert Porter on January 5, 1951. On January 31, 2024 after completing all of her earthly assignments, she received her heavenly wings.
Educated in Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools, she was a graduate of Atkins High School, Class of 1967. She was employed by Baptist Hospital and retired after 35 years of service. In her religious life, she was Baptist by faith.
Betty was a very devoted, trustworthy, honest and loyal person. She was an outstanding Bingo and card player; and an avid reader of novels. Some of her fondest times were spent entertaining her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Antonio Carter; sister, Brenda Roebuck; three brothers, Sammy Lee, Mango and William Carter.
Left to mourn her passing, but cherish her memory, her daughter, Tonya Smith; two sons, Donald Carter and Charles Timmons; 15 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Larry and Melvin Carter; two aunts, Lorene and Nancy Carter; godson and daughter, Mike Robinson and Bria Redmon; devoted friend, Latrice Carter; special friends, Jolyn Roberts and Diane Mitchell; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Shirley Ann Mitchell, AKA “Duck” and “Auntie” was born March 31, 1939, to the parentage of Mr. Robert Lewis Washington, Sr. and Mrs. Mattie Thomas Russell Washington in Winston Salem, North Carolina. She was the 4th child of 12 children.
Auntie graduated from Atkins High School, class of 1958 in Winston Salem, NC. Soon after graduating, she moved to Brooklyn, New York, where she furthered her education at the Mandl School for Medical and Dental Assistants, New York, NY, earning, a certification in Electrocardiography. She went on to attended the Allen School for Physician Aides, in Jamaica, NY, graduating with a certification in Electrocardiography Technician and Basal Metabolism. She pursued her career as an, Certified Electrocardiography Technician, and was employed by Kings County Hospital Center, Health and Hospitals Corp, where she was awarded for completing 34 years of valuable service. She also, received an Award of Excellence for completing 34 years of loyal dedicated service to the New York City Employees Union Local 237 I.B.T..
After her retirement, Auntie excitedly moved back home to Winston-Salem NC. With her love for the Lord, she established membership and became a faithful member of Gethsemane Hope Missionary Baptist Church, serving as a proud member of the Senior Choir. Auntie loved attending church and when the doors of the church were open, Auntie was always there, until her health began to fail. Unable to attend her home church, she eagerly attended Ephesus Seventh Day Adventist church with family.
Auntie, not having children of her own, she graciously loved on and cared for generations of nieces and nephews. Auntie loved shopping for greeting cards, as she loved giving them to family and friends. She knew everyone in the family’s birthdays, all of her friend’s birthdays, and all of her church member’s birthdays. If she knew you and knew your birthday, you were going to get a card from her on your birthday and for Christmas, with a nice token of love in it.
On January 16, 2024, Shirley peacefully transitioned this earthly walk of life at Trellis Supportive Care in Winston Salem, NC.
Shirley/Duck/Sister/Auntie, as she was fondly called, was part of the glue of her family, and she proudly accepted this honor. Shirley was so kind, loving, and caring, with a quiet and humble spirit. She loved the Lord and would often say, “just ask God, he’ll do it for you”, and “God Knows”.
Five days a week for seven years, she enjoyed attending the Tab Williams Adult Day Center, where she was affectionately known as “The Dancing Queen”. If music was playing, she was dancing, clapping, or patting her feet. She really loved to dance. Our family received a gift from our grandma and it was Aunt Shirley, dance on Auntie, dance on. She will be cherished beyond what words can describe.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; eight sisters, Henrietta Washington, Eltine Washington, Gloria Jean Washington, Annie Marie Washington, Linda Laverne Alford, Omondi, Carolyn Pearline Henry and Lettie Mozelle Washington; three brothers, Thurmon Bernard Washington, Robert Lewis Washington, Jr. and Barry Gilbert Washington.
Most precious memories will be cherished by her loving sister Mary Washington, and devoted niece/caregivers Porcial and Robert Wilson of the home; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Mr. Tommy L. Nesmith

Mr. Tommy Lee Nesmith was born on July 22, 1942 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He was the son of Willie Bell Nesmith, now deceased. After a life well lived, he passed away on January 12, 2024, leaving behind many who loved him.
He was educated In the Forsyth County School System. At Hauser Rental Service, he worked as a warehouse operator for many years. In the community, he was a member of Mt. Able Pentecostal Holiness Church of God where he was celebrated as the First Man of Mt. Able. He loved to sing, always had a song in his heart, and was willing to share it with anyone who was willing to listen. Even through his physical challenges, he always had an encouraging spirit and constantly expressed his praises to God for the blessings he received.
Family who preceded him in death include his mother, Willie Bell Nesmith; sister, Patricia Nesmith; and son-in-law, Gary Ferrell.
Those who remain to cherish his memory include his wife, Elizabeth Nesmith; daughters, Willette N. Poole, Sylvia C. Searles, Pamela Fer-rell, Dianna Williams, Linda Lewis, Linsetta Dodd, Monyca Nails; son, Hanson Clark; grandchildren, Bria Covington, RazHane Gadson, Lubrey Gadson, Demarcus Clark, Lakeia Simmons, Dynasty Harris, Dayveoin Brown, Latoya Barclay, Amanda Morrison, Kimberly Nails, Latosha Flemming, Ahmad Lewis; brother, Wayne Nesmith; nieces, Elease Smith and Apostle Lawana Wallace; nephew, Eric Thompson; eighteen great-grandchildren; and a host of great-great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

With her family by her side, Marion (Mern) was granted her wings on January 11, 2024 at Baptist Hospital. Marion was born January 9, 1957 in North Carolina, the youngest daughter of Elven Gist.
Marion was educated in the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools and worked at Graylyn Estate for almost four decades before retiring.
She spent most of her time with her kids and grandkids. She was very devoted, trustworthy, honest, loyal and would give you either her last dime or shirt off her back.
Marion is preceded in death by her mother, Elven Gist and brother, Roger Gist.
She leaves to mourn, her two sons, James and Darian Gist, who she called her “Gentle Giant” and “Big Bear”; and one that would call her own, Jarik Gist; grandkids, Darian Jr., Kaden Quaye and Ja’Lan Gist; brothers, Fletcher and John Gist of the city, Larry (Bernice) Gist of Detroit, MI; sisters, Dorenda Gist of Cleveland, OH, Catherine and Ora Mae of the city and Brenda Richardson of Detroit, MI; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousin, and friends; notable mention, Ronald Lash, Ruth Seitz and Katherine Crook.

Matthew Ansari El-Amin was born on January 30th, 1983, the fifth child of Fleming and Cassaundra El-Amin. He was a happy-go-lucky child, loving and free hearted.
True to his name, Ansari, he was a helper and unselfish giver. He tried to help anyone who needed it and would give the shirt off his back, if needed.
Matthew was baptized at Emmanuel Baptist Church; he knew God’s love. He returned to the Creator on January 6, 2024, the birthday of his youngest brother and best friend.
Matthew loved dogs and animals. He even fed squirrels who came closer and closer to eat, much to everyone else’s chagrin. He remained a kid at heart and loved to have fun. His children, nieces, and nephew loved being in his presence. He let them do things their parents would never allow, like driving the car around the yard.
He was a risk taker who liked adventure. He was a natural athlete and excelled at sports from a young age. He was especially good at football, basketball, and baseball. He didn’t need to be taught to ride his bike. He just got on and rode off. He never met a stranger, and he was the definition of a true friend. He was always the life of the party and enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Matthew attended the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools and graduated from Maumee High School in Maumee, Ohio. He continued his education at North Carolina Central University and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and a minor in Finance. He always had a keen sense of business, even as a child. He began selling candy at his childhood home on Bon Air and continued through middle school. He worked at a variety of companies and never came across a job that he couldn’t do.
Matthew is preceded in death by his sister, Anjail El-Amin; his grandfathers, David Matthews and General Jackson; his aunt, Wanda Williams; and his uncle, General Jackson, Jr. In addition to his parents, he leaves to forever cherish his memories four children, Isaiah Blair, Ansariyah, Caleb and Kayla El-Amin; four siblings, Fleming El-Amin II (Zunilda), Salimah Witherspoon (Rodney), Jameelah Hayes (Derrick) and Abraham El-Amin (Laura); six nieces, Yvonne, Ayanna, and Maliyah El-Amin, Asya, Melody, and Saniya Hayes; one nephew, Jonah El-Amin Witherspoon; two grandmothers, Marie Matthews and Herlenia Jackson; two uncles, Joseph Jackson (Valerie) and Sabuur Abdul-Kareem; one great uncle, James Thomas Matthews; one great aunt, Dorothy Joyner; eight first cousin two of whom were like sisters, Sha-Lai Williams and Johnai Myers, Monica Banner (Toma), General III, Mia, Joi, and David Jackson, Jermaul Terry; and a host of other cousins, relatives, and friends.

David Johnson Cannady, Sr. was born in Winston-Salem, NC on November 25, 1934 to Isaac Cannady and Minnie Bell Davis.
He graduated from Carver High School, entered and graduated from Winston-Salem State University and received his degree in Business Administration and completed Plant Engineering Training at FTCC. He was drafted, served and honorably discharged from the US Army 82nd Airborne Division, Ft. Bragg, NC.
For more than 35 years he was employed by and later retired from AT&T Technologies as an Operating Engineer. Additionally he was a Power Plant Mechanic at Wake Forest University. As a local entrepreneur, he owned and operated Cannady & Sons Heating & Air.
At John Wesley A.M.E. Zion Church, he served as a Trustee, Preacher, Steward Emeritus, Sunday School Teacher, Male Chorus, 1st Sunday Choir, Memorial Choir; Men’s Booster Ministries of the W-S District. He was 3rd degree member of P.H.F&AM.
He passed on December 31, 2023 and was preceded in death by: son, David Johnson Cannady, Jr.; siblings, Doris Cundiff, Johnny Cannady, Blanche C. Boyce, McLacey Cannady, Isaac Cannady, Jr., and Caretha C. Batista. He leaves behind his son Mr. Delano Chavez Walker Jr., daughters Kiana Walker, and April Boone. Two grandchildren Que’Yon Hunter and Raynard Miller. Three brothers Leander Walker (AKA) Tyrone (wife Cindy Walker), Kennel Walker, and Keith Walker. Three sister Valerie Walker (husband Cleveland Beasley), Tonda Penn (husband Walter Penn) and Vettie Walker. He also has a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews , other relatives and friends who loved him and he loved dearly.

Ms. Deborah A. Tillman, 72, was born on July 23, 1951 in New York, NY to the late Dorothy Tillman and Jesse Ferguson.
She was a 1969 graduate of Carver High School and received her Associates Degree from Forsyth Technical Community College. Ms. Tillman retired from United Way of Forsyth as a Campaign Events Coordinator.
She passed away on December 14, 2023 after a period of illness.
Ms. Tillman is survived by her children, Bridgett Brown and Eric Brown; her granddaughter, Maya Williams; a host of other relatives and friends.
A celebration of her life will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, December 29, 2023 at St. John CME Church, 350 NW Crawford Place, Winston-Salem, North Carolina, 27105. In honor of her personality, the family requests that you wear vibrant colors.

Stepvon Walden Harper was born on March 17, 1963 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, to Leroy Bill Harper and Wilhelmina Mathews.
He was educated in Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools and graduated from Parkland High School. After graduation, he was employed at Thomasville Furniture Company until his health declined.
Those who preceded him in death include both his parents and brother, Coy Astrop.
Remaining to cherish his memory are his sons, Javon (Precious) Gethers and Stephen Harper; daughter, Daisha Harris; brothers, Leroy Harper and Chris Astrop; nephew, Jalen Harper; niece, Tokara Harper; four grandchildren; and a host of other family members and friends.

Michael Eugene Brown 35 of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, departed this earth on Saturday, December 9, 2023. He was born on March 30, 1988 to Tyrone Brown and Donna Darden Brown.
He attended the Winston-Salem/Forsyth Public Schools and graduated from Mt. Tabor High School in 2006.
Michael was a loving son, brother, grandson, nephew, and friend.
Michael was an avid longtime flag football player. His nationally ranked team in Ohio was well known all over the US. He has been with a team in Morrisville, NC since his return to the city in March 2023. His athletic ability and joy of play was evident each time he hit the field.
He showed the love of God to everyone he met. He loved to laugh, play Scabble, cards, and board games. He loved to cook and chose cooking as his profession and was a grill cook at Cava of Winston-Salem. Michael loved his family, and you saw and felt the love that he had for his family and friends.
Michael was preceded in death by grandfather, Mr. Ortho Darden, Sr.; brother, Brandon Chambers; aunt, Beverly Simmons; grandparents, Clara Brown and Clarence Brown, Sr.; and numerous other relatives.

Toby Angus Richardson, Jr. transitioned on December 8, 2023. He was born in Hoke County, North Carolina on January 20, 1949. He was born to the late Angus McPhatter and Nina Morrissey McPhatter, and raised by Toby Richardson, Sr. and Sadie Richardson. He graduated from East Side High School in Bennettsville, SC in 1966, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Pharmacy from Howard University in 1972.
Toby was the CEO of Richardson Pharmacy in Winston Salem, NC. Over the years, he also worked as a Pharmacist for several hospitals and commercial establishments, such as Baptist Hospital and Forsyth Hospital also located in Winston Salem, North Carolina. His hobbies included indulging in car racing, watching football, going fishing, and traveling to different cities and countries. He also enjoyed watching movies and reading books.
Toby attended Galilee Missionary Baptist Church, where he sung on the choir. He was also a member of Groove Phi Groove fraternity at Howard University.
His sense of humor was unmatched and known to many. His smile was bright. His love was warm. He was a gentle soul, and he could get along with anyone.
Toby had many brothers and sisters and other family members who are no longer with us, including Ben McPhatter and John McPhatter. He is survived by his three daughters Tenille Richardson-Quamina and her husband Ian Quamina, Tori Daniels and her husband Marcus Daniels, and Tavyn Collins and her husband Stan Collins; his grandsons, Stanford Collins III, Shawn Collins, Marcus Daniels, Jeremiah Daniels, and Elijah Daniels; his granddaughters, Rebel Quamina and Nova Quamina; his brothers Nathan McCoy, Thearchie McPhatter, Randy McPhatter, Hammond McPhatter, and Warren Blue; his sister Donnie McPhatter; and a host of nieces, nephews, family members, and friends.

Wannita Levette Creasy was born in Winston-Salem, North Carolina on December 4, 1978 to Ann Creasy and Jack Akers. She departed this world on Tuesday, November 28, 2023 with her family at her side.
Wannita loved to be called “Mama” by her four daughters, and “Nita Love” by many of her friends and family.
She was a proud mother to her daughters, K’Avona Creasy, Chardajae Johnson, Amariya Johnson, and Sabriyah Johnson. She loved her girls dearly, raising them with warmth and devotion in Winston-Salem.
Wannita worked for many years in Customer Service. She was employed as a store Clerk at Harris Teeter before her death, recently being promoted.
She enjoyed bringing happiness to others. She had an outgoing personality as she was always smiling and dancing. Her favorite past time was cooking and she was truly gifted. She was also a gifted poet and often shared what she wrote with her children along with her love for different types of music and books.
Because of the love for her four girls, she instilled Christ in them from birth. Wannita was a devoted woman of God who prayed over her children daily.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her children, K’Avona, Cardiae, Amariya, and Sabriyah; cousins, Sharon Creasy, Susan Miller, Shereka Thompson, Angela Akers; and a host of other relatives.

Sy1vester Ronald Bitting, better known as “Bookey” and “Spanky”, was born on August 21, 1980. On Thursday, November 2, 2023, he passed away at the age of 43.
Sylvester attended the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools. He was a humorous man, loving son, father, brother and friend to many. In the midst of overcoming challenges in his life, he successfully completed his GED and occasionally was employed as a stocker at a local store.

Affectionately known as "Greg Jr." by his family. Gregory was educated in the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools System where he attended
Mount Tabor High School.
To his friends he was known as "G" or "Geezy" and he formed a tight brotherly bond with Reginald Price and Jamar Peterkins from childhood to adulthood.
Gregory was a tried and true Dallas Cowboys fan. He was very athletic and took to sports easily. He enjoyed playing baseball, basketball, and football.
Gregory loved to play and hang out at Hanes Hosiery.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Essie W. Linville; his uncle, Richard Clement; his aunts, Ethel Glenn Crockett and Gaynell Glenn Cooper.

Chase David-Keshon Cloud was born on September 25, 2003. He departed his life peacefully on October 24, 2023.
Chase attended East Forsyth High School where he graduated. Chase has always been active in sports, although, he played football mostly, basketball was his favorite. As Chase grew older his passion became music and he spent a great deal of his time in and out of the studio perfecting his craft. He would have definitely pursued a professional and successful music career. Chase has many friends who wish to carry on his music and keep his dream alive.
Chase was indeed a gentle giant in his own loving way and was no stranger by far to anyone. Chase will deeply and sadly be missed by those near and far. He was a loving son, grandson, nephew, cousin and a friend to many. May we forever hold Chase’s memories in our hearts and friends will keep his music alive. Gone to soon but will never be forgotten.

On Monday, October 2, 2023, Zachariah Johnson passed away. He was born in Winston-Salem NC on July 3, 1944 to the late Reverend Johnny and Ruthie Mae Johnson.
He was educated in the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School System.
He was a lifelong member of the Flat Rock Baptist Church.
He lived in Salisbury, NC for several years and retired there from the Taylor Clay Brick Company. After retirement, he moved back to Winston-Salem, NC.
Zachariah was an avid golf fan and loved Tiger Woods.
Zachariah was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters: Azalee J. Clemmons, Cindy Mae J. Elam and Elizabeth J. Gray; two brothers: Johnny Johnson Jr. and Richard Johnson; brothers-in-law, Joseph Pritchett and Sylvester Lowery, Jr.; and sister-in-law, Linda Johnson.

Gevontae Daeron Morrison...Some call him son, few call him dad, others brother, uncle or friend, many consider him family and he is most affectionately known as Tae aka Xhop. Most importantly, he is loved. Taken away from this earthly vessel at the young age of 26 on Monday, September 11, 2023. Gevontae was born on February 5, 1997 to Tiffanie Marsh and George Morrison, Jr., both of Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
Gevontae was always joking around, he was everyone's backbone. If you needed anything, Tae was the person to call, it didn't matter what it was for he always showed up for those he loved. He was a confidant to many, trustworthy and dependable. He was the person you always wanted to keep in your circle, he was just that good of a friend. A humble, loving, silly giant, whose energy was contagious. He demanded respect, a true king that many looked up to. In his free time, he enjoyed time with his family, the one he was born in to and the family he made through bonds. His children were his everything, they held a special place in his heart that no one could compare to. Gevontae was at every function, if he didn't do anything else, he supported his people! He was outspoken, bold, and fearless, anything he set his mind to was sure to happen. His smile, memories and incomparable love will forever be cherished.
Gevontae was preceded in death by his grandmother, the light of his life, Frankie Marsh Patterson; grandfather, Tyrone Peterson and his best friend who was more like a brother, Darryl Rice, Jr.
Although Tae isn't physically here with us his legacy will forever live on through his mother, his rock, Tiffanie Marsh; father, George Morrison, Jr.; beloved children, Genesis Morrison, Kehlani Williams, Avonte Smith, Gevontae Morrison, Jr., and Aveah Soney; grandparents, Vannessa Morrison and George (Sandra) Morrison, Sr.; irreplaceable brothers and sisters, Mekaylah Marsh, Kiwannie James, Jr., Jayla Penn, Jania Penn, Jalil Hargrove; adored niece, Keziah Marsh; influencial uncles, Bryant Marsh, Sr. and Hollis Cotton; great-aunt, Vernell Stovall; very specially bonded cousins, Cree Marsh, Bryant Marsh, Jr., Bryana Marsh and Jabrea Marsh; inspiring god mother, Stacey Linster; admirable god sister, Shuntailya Graves; undeniable best friends, Timothy Marsh, Daveon Greene, William Norwood, Jr., Anthony Frazier, Jharee Ingram and Avonte Evens; and an abundance of extended friends who were family to him just the same who will miss him dearly.

Ms. Betty A. Murray of Winston-Salem, NC passed away on Tuesday, August 22, 2023. Betty was born March 17, 1938 in Bristol, Florida to the late Elizabeth Dawson and Luther Wade.
Betty Murray was a very active member of Alpha and Omega Church from 1981 to 2023, where she was the mother of the Church, a Choir member and at one time the Financial Secretary with 42 years of dedicated service on the battlefield for our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
She was preceded in death by her husband Richard Murray; two sisters, Juanita Pattom and Barbara Hunter.
Mother Murray leaves to cherish her memories two daughters, Eugenia Smith and Sonja (Christopher, Sr.) Key both of Winston-Salem, NC; one son, Anthony Roddy of Powder Springs, GA; grandchildren, Wendell (Alena) Smith, Jr. of Powder Spring, GA, Antoine (Ashley) Smith of Powder Spring, GA, Christopher (Keshia) Key of Winston-Salem, NC, Jazmin (Stephan) Cribb of Winston-Salem, NC, Anthony Roddy of Lithonia, GA, Brianna and Rosalyn Roddy of Mableton, GA; and a host of great grands, nieces, great nieces, nephews and other relatives, church family members and devoted friends.

Mr. Eugene F. Parmlee

Eugene Francis Parmlee, born on August 29, 1954 in Bridgeport, CT, was the son of William H. Parmlee and Myrtle I. Parmlee. A loving member of our family, he went to sleep in Jesus on August 22, 2023. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Gary Parmlee.
He was a student athlete at Warren Harding High School, in Bridgeport, CT where he played football. He was a skilled mechanic with positions at Davis Garage and Modern Chevrolet. He attended Rising Ebenezer Baptist Church where he supported many of the church ministries. An entrepreneur, he had his own car shops and trucks. He was an umpire for softball with USSSA, USA, NCHSAA and other Associations. In earlier years, he was a member of Lords of Thunder & Company Motorcycle Club.
Eugene did not let his cancer diagnosis slow him down. In fact, he umpired even during chemo treatments. He maintained a positive attitude throughout his illness and showed more concern for his wife and family than for himself. “Gene” was a wonderful brother and friend. He loved fishing, hunting and playing his guitar and riding motorcycles. He enjoyed watching Marvel and DC movies, Star Wars and ME TV. Even though we may feel “Gene” was taken too soon, he lived an extraordinary life surrounded by people who loved him.
Survivors include: spouse, Dedra Parmlee; children: Eugene Parmlee Jr. of Philadelphia, PA, Tanya (David) Brusewitz, Staples, MN, Eugene Sneed, of High Point, NC, Kenny (Chantale) Parmlee, Kevin Parmlee, and Reginald McLaurin, of Winston-Salem, NC, Daja (Devin) Alexander, Mobile, AL, Reginald (Frencheska) Hunter of Greensboro, NC; and a host of grandchildren; siblings; Edward Parmlee, Richard (Monique) Parmlee,, William (Wanda) Parmlee, Helen Parmlee, Alice (Willie) Polite, Shirley (William) Gibson, Judy (Ernest) Barnes, Linda Yvonne Obbsohan, Linda Walker, Deborah Smith, Dorothy Cox; uncle, Albert Bush; aunts, Helen Belle and Betty Bethune; many neices, nephews and cousins; in-laws, Cleo (Mardine) Kimbrough; Barbara (Australia) Smith, Gregory Hunter, Francis Hunter, Zeno (Joyce) Hunter; and many friends.

Fletcher Levone Bennett, 73, formerly of Winston-Salem, NC passed away at his home in Columbus, NJ on August 20th, 2023. Fletcher lived in Nyack,Tarrytown and Harlem, NY before moving to Columbus, NJ, 22 years ago.
Fletcher attended Anderson Jr/Sr High School and was awarded a Scholarship to attend Deerfield Academy in Deerfield, MA. He was also a Graduate of Columbia University in N.Y. He was an Electrical Engineer for Spectrum Cable and belonged to the local IBEW 3 Union for 43 years, where he was very active as a representative. Fletcher served as a volunteer Sheriff in Westchester County, NY.
He was a man who loved music and enjoyed playing the saxophone and piano. He was passionate about reading, talking politics, bird watching and feeding ducks. Fletcher also earned his Black Belt in Martial Arts. He recently picked up a new hobby, brushing up on his French and learning Spanish.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Forster Fletcher Bennett and Geneva Coleman Bennett and his sister, Barbara Buie.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years Marsha Gambles-Bennett; sons, Sahib Bennett (Micaela), Sharif Bennett, Marcus Bennett; grandson, Robeson Bennett; brother, Arthur Preston Bennett ( Brenda); sister, Roslyn Bennett Lentz (Ronald); and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Dean Carol Jennings

Dean Carol Jennings was born in Brandon, Mississippi in 1951. She was the third of five children born to Sherman and Ruby Lee Holmes, Jr. Dean would often speak fondly of growing up in Brandon, Mississippi and would relish opportunities to take family and friends on tours of local landmarks and places that were so important to the fabric of her childhood.
After High School, Dean went on to attend Alcorn University before transferring to Jackson State University where she received her Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. After obtaining her Bachelor’s degree, she joined the National Guard and later enlisted in the United States Army Reserves.
Dean relocated to Los Angeles, California in the 1970’s, where she worked for the United States Postal Service for a number of years. During this time, she operated a catering business alongside her good friend Shirley Webb. Shortly thereafter, Dean accepted a job working at Blue Cross of California (now Wellpoint) where she retired after 20 years. Dean also retired from the Army Reserves after 30+ years of service. Dean truly believed in dedication, commitment and hard work.
Los Angeles is where she found a very important pillar in her life, her church home of Greater Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church (GEMBC). As a member of GEMBC, she was active for many years as part of various auxiliaries including: Women’s Chorus, Sunday School, Baptist Training Union and Phoebe’s Circle. Additionally, she worked with the Saturday Morning Youth ministry. It was also at GEMBC where she would meet her future husband Deacon William Frank Jennings and after this union became a faithfully serving member of the Deaconess ministry.
Dean never met a stranger. She would always find something to talk to someone about. Dean would often joke that she could track down and find anything and anyone, who knew Dean well knew this to be true. Family, co-workers, friends and church family would be on the hunt for some niche or obscure antique or particular piece of clothing, and once Dean got wind of what the person was looking for, she would make several calls and trips to various stores to locate and secure the item. She found joy in these “treasure hunts” and would ask for nothing in return from the person that was seeking it. Very often, she would give ‘just because’ gifts to people in her life when something caught her eye and reminded her of them. Dean was truly a selfless giver who loved God, her family and others.
Dean was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William Frank Jennings; two brothers, John Harold and Connie (Hannah).
She leaves to cherish her memory, her children: BPorshe (Charles), Justin, Robert (Pamela), William Jr. and Glynis (Otis); grandchildren: Tiara, Zemirah, Natassia (Courtney), Charles, Jr. (India), Jennelle and Maya.; great-grandchildren: Peyton, Casey, Cameron, Carter, Sophia, Lana and Molly; siblings, Karon and Donnie Joe; nieces and nephews: John, Jr., Timothy, Tomeka, Toriano ‘Rollow’, Andre, Ingrid, Johnathan (Adrienne) and Yolanda; and a host of family, friends, neighbors and church members to cherish her memories.

Mr. Harry Lee Allen, 87 of Winston-Salem, NC departed this earthly life on Tuesday, August 1, 2023. He was born May 14, 1936 and was the youngest of eight children to his parents, Silas B. and Inez Allen.
Affectionately called “Harry Lee” by family and friends. Harry Lee attended the Winston-Salem Forsyth County Public Schools and graduated from Atkins High School in 1955.
Harry Lee was employed by RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company for 23 years and worked for Winston-Salem Forsyth County School System for 20 years. Harry was a hardworking family man devoted to his wife, Annie Mae Allen, who reunites with in heaven.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories a loving daughter, April Jennings; four devoted grandchildren, Tavaras (Natasha) Allen of Charlotte, NC, Jacquelina (Latray) Williams of Covington, GA, Verbi (Kayla) Jennings of Winston-Salem, NC, and Latrice (Jerell) Harley of Winston-Salem, NC; 18 great grandchildren; 4 great great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Mrs. Katherine B. McCloud

Katherine Butler McCloud, affectionately known as “Kat”, “Ms. Kat”, and “Mother McCloud”, made her transition from this part of her journey on July 27, 2023 at Forsyth Medical Center following a period of illness. She was 84 years old.
Katherine was born on February 12, 1939 in Forsyth County. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Jessie Butler; her husband, Amzire McCloud; her beloved son, Gregory McCloud; and her brother, William (Sonny) Butler.
Katherine attended public schools in Winston-Salem and proudly graduated from Atkins High School in 1957. She also attended McLean Stenography College. She was known professionally as an employee of K&W Cafeteria and RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company from which she retired after more than thirty years of service.
Mother McCloud’s spiritual journey began at Kimberley Park Holiness Church where she surrendered her life to Christ at an early age. She was active as a child in the Children’s Choir, Bible Study and Sunday School as well as other church activities. She faithfully served her Lord in several churches including the Miracle Christian and the Revealed Church of Christ. In 1993 she became a member of Goler Memorial AME Zion Church where she was consecrated as a Deaconess, served as a Class Leader and as President of the Stewardess Board. In 1998 she became a charter member of Word of Truth International Life Center which was founded by her daughter, Bishop Pamela Phillips. There she served as a Deaconess, Sunday School Teacher for the children and Intercessory Prayer Leader. Mother McCloud also organized and led the annual prayer conference for the church. The heart of her ministry was ministering to the children and teaching them the Word of God. She was always seen around the church serving with a willing spirit, loving heart, and an infectious smile.
Katherine leaves to cherish her precious memory and continue her legacy three cherished daughters, Bishop Pamela (Pastor Ron) Phillips of Kernersville, NC, Rev. Beverly Orr of Kernersville, NC, Pastor Teresa (Pastor Calvin) Suggs of Wilson, NC; three sisters, Delores Lassiter of Clemmons, NC, Patricia Higgins of Winston-Salem, NC, Claudette (Robert) Jarrett of Lexington, NC; one brother, Jesse Butler of Rural Hall, NC; one sister-in-law, Brenda Butler of Clemmons, NC; six grandchildren, Tony McCloud, Tamika McCloud, Thomas Orr, Jr., Rayvon Hawkins, Jr., Antonio Livingston, and Travis Livingston; sixteen great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Mrs. Bernice Brooks Hodge

Bessie Bernice Brooks Hodge was born to the late Carrie Jane Harris and the late Hugh Gibbons Brooks in Person County, North Carolina on September 10, 1934. She was the youngest of twelve children and was affectionately called Bernice.
Bernice was educated in Orange County, North Carolina and graduated from Central High School in 1951. She then enrolled at St. Agnes Hospital School of Nursing in Raleigh. St. Agnes offered the first professional training for Black nurses in the State of North Carolina. She completed the required studies, earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing and was licensed as a Registered Nurse. She was also a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated.
While employed at St. Agnes Hospital, Bernice met and married her soulmate, Dr. Ernest B. Hodge. They were the proud parents of one son, Danny.
The couple shared 58 wonderful years of marriage until his death in 2015.
Dr. and Mrs. Hodge joined Mount Zion Baptist Church in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. They were faithful in their church attendance, always sat in the rear of the sanctuary and quietly worshipped each Sunday for more than forty years.
Bernice Brooks Hodge departed this life and received her heavenly wings at her home in Winston-Salem on Saturday, July 22, 2023, with her beloved son, Danny, at her side. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings.
The unspeakable joy that awaits her in heaven is the hope and promise of those who look forward to a reunion with her in eternity. Those family members who survive and who will forever cherish loving memories of her include her son, Danny Hodge, of the home, several nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
There will be no public viewing. A memorial service will be held at 12 PM, Friday, July 28, 2023 at Mount Zion Baptist Church, 950 File Street, Winston-Salem, NC 27101. The family will receive friends thirty-minutes prior to service. Clark S. Brown & Sons entrusted to services.

Ms. Nannette Higgins-Walker Taylor

Nannette Higgins Walker-Taylor was born to the late Osceola L. Higgins Weaver and the late Richard E. Higgins in Winston-Salem, North Carolina on September 6, 1962.
She was educated in the public schools of Winston-Salem/Forsyth County and graduated from East Forsyth High School. She began her early Christian Education at Mount Zion Baptist Church in Winston-Salem.
Following high school graduation, Nannette married, raised her boys, and traveled for a number of years. Upon returning to Winston-Salem, she was Employed with the Winston-Salem Forsyth County Schools (WSFCS) as a cafeteria director at J F Kennedy. She later went to work for Northwest Child Development Centers, Inc. where she was the Child Nutrition Director. She continued in this roll even after deciding to go back to WSFCS. Not only was she a joy to have as a staff member but the children truly adored her as much as she did them. On Sundays because of her joy of working with children, she spent Sunday morning working in the Church’s Sunday Child Care Room at Peace Haven Baptist Church. Nannette was a devoted member of Beauty of the West #36 (O.E.S.) and Sethos Court #105 (D.O.I.).
Nannette was preceded in death by Harold B. Weaver and Charles E Walker III.
Nannette answered the master’s call to “come home” from her residence in Winston-Salem, NC on Thursday, July 13, 2023, following a period of illness. “Family I fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I kept my faith and now I’m gone to enjoy the master’s joy. See you soon!”
The unspeakable joy that awaits her in heaven is the hope and promise of those who look forward to a reunion with her in eternity. Included in that number are her sons, Charles (Johanna) Walker and their children, Joe, Jeremiah, Makaylah, Zabriel, Ariel, Cali and Brooklyn; Richard Walker and his children, Richard Jr., Caleb, Lillian and DeMarcus; and Telvin Taylor and his children, Telvin Jr., and Triston; her sisters and brothers, Franklin Higgins, Richard (Gloria) Higgins, Linda Gail Thomas, Gregory T.
