Chelsea are considering selling both Kepa Arrizabalaga and Edouard Mendy at the end of the season as Graham Potter wants to sign a new goalkeeper.

Arrizabalaga joined Chelsea in 2018 for a then-club record fee of around £72m but he’s endured a difficult stint at Stamford Bridge.

The Spaniard, though undoubtedly talented, has struggled with his self-confidence after a string of mistakes.

Mendy was signed in a £22m deal from Rennes by Frank Lampard in 2020 and the Senegal stopper initially impressed in west London.

However, Mendy’s form has dipped this term and he lost his spot to Kepa after an injury – with Potter putting his faith in the Spaniard.

But neither have done enough to convince Potter that they are the long-term answer to the club’s goalkeeping problems and the Englishman wants someone adept with the ball at his feet in order to implement his playing style at the club.

According to the Sun, Potter is willing to cash in on both Mendy and Kepa at the end of the season in order to fund a move for a new goalkeeper.

With so many areas requiring investment, the club feel they can raise enough cash from the sale of the pair to sign a new goalkeeper.

That means Potter’s budget for next summer will remain relatively untouched, with the former Brighton boss hoping to use the funds Todd Boehly gives to him on two central midfielders, a new winger and a striker.

Kepa still has two-and-a-half years to run on the seven-year contract that he signed in 2018.

The Spaniard earns around £150,000-a-week in west London.
