After a stunning first-round knockout victory over Tito Ortiz, Anderson Silva’s future in boxing could not look brighter. Many wondered if, considering Vitor Belfort’s recent entry into the boxing world, the pair of UFC veterans might face off in the boxing ring.
No way, Anderson Silva told MMAFighting’s Portuguese-language podcast Trocação Franca. “A fight that would be cool would be Vitor and Wanderlei Silva.
Anderson Silva Rules Out Belfort Boxing Match, Mocks Tito Ortiz and Jake Paul
This fight would be spectacular. Everybody wants to see this fight. My opinion regarding a fight with Vitor, man, what would be more spectacular than the knockout I gave Vitor?
Only if we enter the ring and I blow on him and he goes down. Outside of that, nothing cooler could happen. Forget about it, man. People have to forget about it. It’s over.”
Anderson Silva famously knocked Belfort out with a single kick at UFC 126. Silva took the opportunity to poke fun at Jake Paul.
“Unless he tattoos the ‘Spider Kick’ on his chest and writes ‘I love Anderson Silva’ right below, then it might happen. He must get the tattoo done before the fight. It must be on his chest, nicely done, really big, so everyone sees the kick.
Other than that, there’s no way.” In the same interview, Silva expressed disdain for Tito Ortiz’s bizarre social media presence. Ortiz made a recent habit of posting COVID-19 conspiracy theories, which Anderson Silva found baffling.
“Man, I don’t want the drugs he’s using. It’s complicated… I’m kidding. Brother, there are things you must treat as a joke, there’s no other way around it. To each his own, I guess.”
Anderson “Spider” Silva’s highlight-reel-worthy knockout victory over Ortiz marks a frightening return to form for one of the greatest middleweights to ever grace the UFC. Anderson Silva’s final years in the UFC were marred by bizarre matchups and brutal losses.
MMA is a brutal sport, and even its elite rarely leave the game on top. Just ask Ken Shamrock. Perhaps it was too much to hope that the MMA world would give Anderson Silva an appropriate send-off.
However, as Silva grinned into the camera after his boxing win, he was able to soak up the adulation of combat sports fans once more. Maybe the strange zeitgeist of celebrity boxing is the best way for Anderson Silva to take his victory lap after all. You can tell that the man is loving every minute of his return to competition.
