Kellen Winslow Jr. awaits a lengthy prison sentence. He has already been convicted of rape, indecent exposure and lewd conduct. The former NFL tight end got a mistrial on two more charges of rape and the prosecutor is considering re-trying him.
Now stories of deviant behavior during his NFL days, warning signals of an unstable person who couldn’t control his sexual urges, who would watch hardcore pornography on team flights and masturbate in public places, are coming out.
SI.com detailed the occurrences in a lengthy account that was published days after his convictions.
A Browns equipment manager once found him masturbating in his Hummer, two of his teammates told the magazine. He would often have an empty seat next to him on team flights because of his porn habit. Once, SI reported, he was caught masturbating at his locker, which was located at the entrance to the room.
Winslow played nine seasons with the Browns, Buccaneers, Patriots and Jets.
He made a habit out of watching porn on his smartphone, often in team meetings. On road trips, he would reportedly masturbate in his hotel room, no matter who was in the room, leading to teammates asking not to be assigned to share a room with him. Later in his career, Winslow would take a silicone mold of a woman’s torso, including a vagina and anus on road trips, one assistant coach said.
Winslow was convicted of raping a 58-year-old homeless woman.
After news of his arrest broke last year, a woman accused Winslow of raping her while they were at a party in a San Diego suburb in 2003. The jury chose not to convict on that charge, but the allegations — made by a woman who was 17 at the time — date back to when Winslow was 19.
