Kathie Lee Gifford’s shocking new penchant for going braless on-air has viewers up in arms and everyone else wondering what she’s trying to prove.
In recent weeks, “Live with Regis and Kathie Lee” has been hit with calls and letters from fans demanding the hostess harness her hooters.
Producers have even tried to cover up her chest with strategically placed plants and flower arrangements.
But it hasn’t helped.
Most days, she sports clingy tube tops, dresses and shirts that leave little to the imagination.
Some suggest Gifford’s getting back at Frank Gifford for his scandalous tryst with flight attendant Suzen Johnson.
Some media insiders say Gifford, who’s long wanted a show of her own, is jealous of co-host Regis Philbin’s prime-time smash, “Who Wants to be a Millionaire?”
An ABC insider says: “She might just want out of her contract and she’s pushing as many buttons as she can.”
Gifford is already on board to fill in one day a week for star Carol Burnett when the revival of Steven Sondheim’s “Putting it Together” hits Broadway this fall.
“It’s no secret among Broadway producers that Kathie Lee is looking for her own show,” says a media source.
And then there’s the chance that the high-strung hostess has finally just lost it.
Despite an ABC flack’s claim last week that “Kathie Lee wears undergarments – and always has,” show insiders know differently.
How else to explain those mammoth floral displays that suddenly appear, mid-show, in front of Kathie Lee’s host chair, covering her practically to the chin?
