Kate McKinnon Makes First Appearance with New Girlfriend at Emmys

Kate McKinnon, 33, has a new lady in her life to help celebrate her Emmy win tonight.

The Saturday Night Livestar picked up her second win as a member of the sketch comedy show Sunday at the 2017 Emmy Awards in Los Angeles, where she also made her first appearance with her girlfriend, Jackie Abbott.

McKinnon, who is Saturday Night Live‘s first openly gay female cast member, was seated next to Abbott in the audience tonight, and gave her a hug before accepting her award for outstanding supporting actress in a comedy series.

According to her website, Abbott is an actor, photographer and artist based out of New York City. Born in Stamford, Connecticut, she graduated from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, where she “studied with Olympia Dukakis and worked for Susan Sarandon.” She was also a Tisch Drama Award recipient, according to her online resume.

Clearly the two share a sense of humor, with Abbott writing on her website that she was “dubbed a cheeky firecracker by her professors” and that she “is as passionate as she is a goofball.”

McKinnon has previously spoken about being an LBGT comic, reportedly telling AfterEllen, “As minorities, we’re on the fringe, and there’s just something so wonderful about that perspective, something so inspiring. If you’re a part of that minority, you can make fun of those people while respecting them and lifting them up.”
